I had a very relaxing time at this spa. I first would like to note that this isn't quite as high end as I'd imagined. And the price for the deluxe pools (I think around $60nzd) should've tipped me off. I was expecting this package to include a robe and jandals as I have experienced at other spas. But I believe the robes are for hire and jandals are not provided. Had I known that, I would've brought my own jandals. I don't like walking barefoot around public locker rooms, showers, and toilets. However, I was one of the first to arrive in the morning and the place was still pretty clean when I left 3hrs later. Also, I thought the deluxe option meant no children, but that was not the case. Now for the good: I chose the deluxe option because it came with lockers, as opposed to open bins with the pavilion option. The deluxe has 5 pools as opposed to 8 in the pavilion, but I wanted the locker to secure my belongings. All 5 pools have lakeside views. And they are so relaxing! My favorite one was the hottest one at 106F (maybe around 42C). It was like all the tension just melted away as I meditated on sound of the babbling waterfall. And the heated recliners are amazing! The last pool I dipped into was the cold bath and I rushed to the heated recliners to heat up. The temperature change from cold to warm was very soothing. Once I noticed more children coming in, I decided it was time to leave. I also wanted to explore Rotorua anyway with the limited time I had there. I used the communal showers (the ones with no stalls). I kept my swimsuit on to rinse it as well. The shampoo and conditioner provided were okay. I luckily brought my hair serum which brought moisture back to my strands. I do recommend this place if you want a relaxing experience at an affordable price. You can book online, but I found the process confusing. One of the members in my tour group accidentally bought a private package not realizing the minimum was 2 people. I suggest going in person to make the booking so they can explain your options or go before they open if you don't have a booking. I was there about 15mins early with many of the local seniors and I had no issues going in. They also have ice cream and a gift shop that you can peruse through afterwards. read more

We had 45 minutes but without a clock on the walls or a warning we didn't know when time was up. We did the Ultimate Bathing package which includes the Lake View Deluxe Private pool plus access to the Deluxe Lake Spa bathing area. This place was super stinky due to the sulfur but had gorgeous views of the lake and was very relaxing. You should be fine bringing your own swimsuit. No need to rent a swimsuit like at Hells Gate. Ranked as one of the top 5 spas in the world and it did not disappoint. The only difficult part is to time your visit so you avoid all the older folks that may also want to use the facilities. LOL. We were lucky, we came at 12:30pm on a Monday and so the place was virtually deserted save for a few other patrons to the spa. My YEA signed up for a massage so the entrance fee was waived. I, however, just paid the entrance fee for the deluxe spa package which had access to the adults only area. The spa is all about relaxing and recharging yourself. They have about 6 different pools that range from 32 to 40 degrees celsius. The spa area itself is designed beautifully with a lots of lush greenery and it faces out into the lake as well. This includes an alkaline water pool and an acidic mineral pool that is suppose to be helpful for joint pains and other maladies of the sort. The sign says they import the water from a private source so you can't just get it anywhere. I bounced around from each different temperature pool to soak away any aches and pains from all the hiking in our trip. I even grew really addicted to the cold water plunge and then hopping into the acidic mineral pool after. It was pretty invigorating. There were a few Instagrammers out there taking photos but honestly, just take a few and enjoy yourself. I think we were lucky there was only 1 or 2 of those people at a pretty quiet time. I could imagine during peak hours, it can be a lot more annoying. After about 2.5 hours meandering between the different hot pools and just relaxing, we called it a day. Our timing couldn't have been better because as we were exiting the spa, we saw like 60+ senior roll in for their time in the pools. #goodtiming Overall, I would highly recommend making a visit here. It was $50 per person for 5 different pools, heated outdoor chairs, shower, and lockers. The view was beautiful from the pools. The different pools varied in temperature, from super hot to just mildly hot. We came during the beginning of spring so it was still chilly outside. It was awesome to be in the hot water with the air all around being cold. I even did the HOT to COLD pool too. That freaked my body out. We ended up sitting in some of the chairs outside just to take in all the views. We didn't realize they were also heated. read more

Visited Polynesian Spa twice during my 3 days in Rotorua. It took me a while to figure out the lay of the land so to speak. I had a 20% coupon which I could use for adult pools or family pools (I chose adult) there was one large pool and several smaller. I assume temp differed by pool, the pools were fine but locker room and the experience was basic, no frills. Admission is about $29 NZD. We were given a 20% coupon by our hotel (not valid for Spa services). I have heard stories of the place being overrun with tour groups, but that was not my experience, of course I was there in the middle of winter. Second visit spent time in Lake Spa followed by a wonderful one hour de-stress muscle massage. Access to Lake Spa without a treatment is $48. Cost for a one hour massage, unlimited time in the Lake Spa and unlimited time to relax in the spa relaxation area (wtih tea/water) and a coupon for a free smoothie/juice drink $179 NZD (approx $132 USD) and no tip expected. The Lake Spa experience entitles you to the relaxation lounge, shampoo, towels, hair dryers and lockers. Definitely a step up from my experience at adult pools. I did not see plastic bags for wet swimsuits, so bring one (or maybe I missed it). And by the way, this is NOT clothing optional, all public areas are co-ed...take note German people. My massage therapist was a capable young Indian woman named Khushboo, she was very good. At the end of the massage you are given a coupon for a free juice drink at the cafe. Amazing geothermal spa in Rotorua, New Zealand that overlooks a beautiful lake. They sell all sorts of skincare here as well, and I highly recommend their mud masks. My friend and I chose to do the private deluxe pool for 30 minutes for NZD $29. So beautiful!! We unfortunately went on a rainy day, so the skies weren't nearly clear. But it was still beautiful nonetheless. We also bought access to the adult pools for NZD $29 afterwards, which is for an unlimited amount of time. This was such a wonderful spa experience with geothermal pools, and I definitely recommend it. The view cannot be beat. They also have a smoothie bar and cafe area in the front lobby of the spa. A very relaxing place. Was debating over the public spas or the private ones and was glad we choose the private spa. While walking to the private spa we passed by a few of the public pool areas and it was just a bunch of men hanging out in the pool. I definitely would not have been comfortable there. The private spa had such a beautiful and picturesque view. There is a private shower and you change in the room as well. The water was nice and warm. The private spa required a minimum of 2 people and cost $29 nzd a person for half an hour. Half an hour was enough for us and even then we had to come out of the water to cool off at times. Thank goodness we decided to get this package deal and had some time to spend in the private room with a view. Once we got to the geothermal lake spa area with others who also opted for this, it was a bit noisy. Lots of Asian tourists taking a shit ton of photos and talking loudly, especially when there were signs to keep the noise to a minimum. Other than that, the pools were so nice and invigorating. The Polynesian Spa is a must try if you're in the Rotorua area. My friend had suggest going here. Warning this is a busy place. We saw tour buses outside. As we got in, tons of families and people walking around the lobby. We got there in the late evening, so the groups slowly started to leave, which was nice. The spa separate the pool area based on families, adults to private. We stayed on the adult side to avoid screaming kids. Be sure to bring a towel with you, or you'll need to rent one. They charge for the lockers, but we wanted to make sure our items were safe, so we got one. The locker rooms are large with showers inside. I enjoyed soaking in the different pools based on temperature or mineral mixture. There is this foot massage walk, that my husband liked. There are stones on the bottom covered with about 5 inches of water. Certain areas have pointier rocks than smooth. It's supposed to stimulate the body and mind. I was more in pain, but my husband loved the challenge. Forgot to mention we went in mid February. read more

Unfortunately, I found many of the pools too hot and the last acidic pool was so hot the lady checking it told me to get out and closed the pool. The AXI massage was very nice. They give you some disposable underpants then your treated to your choice of treatment. I had the Rotorura scrub then coconut oil. Wow what a great way to end my 5 month stay in New Zealand. I scheduled a 45 minute mud massage about two weeks prior online. I got an email saying that my appointment was booked but had to call to confirm it. Service over the phone was prompt and nice. I arrived one hour prior as stated in the email. With all spa services like massages, you get access to the Lake Side hot pools. I arrived about 45 minutes before and soaked in the hot pools. The views were stunning and it was not crowded. I was able to peacefully soak up the amazing hot spring waters. I really recommend the lake side hot pools! The women's locker room/changing room just reopened from renovations and it looks great! My massage therapist arrived promptly and was very kind. It was my first ever massage so she told me about what to expect. After my massage I realized that massages are very nice and I plan to get more massages in the future, when I am back in my hometown. Getting my first massage at the Polynesian spa was such a nice treat! Afterwards, my therapist guided me to the relaxation room. Free fruit water and tea was served and amazing views of the Rotorua lake sunset! All treatments get 10% off coupon in the shop that sells a variety of lotions and salts, make sure to take a look, especially at the local products. All in all I had an amazing time! There is a lot of hype around Polynesian Spa and if you plan properly, you will understand why that is. I've been here on a number of occasions and, depending on what you are hoping for, you will serve yourself well to adjust your expectations accordingly. You need to book ahead. If you are looking for the most peaceful serenity, don't go during the high season and during high-use times of day. And yes - all of Rotorua smells like sulphur. It just does, but you can usually get over in after about 5-10 minutes. It's part of the charm of the place and geothermal beauty :) My first visit here, I came alone to celebrate my birthday with a pregnancy massage. This was June (NZ winter, low season). There were not many people there at all, perhaps about 3-4 couples in the lakeside pools (which are included and can be used ahead of time prior to a spa treatment). I was able to sit, chill and relax. My massage was excellent, and comfortable, which is saying something since I was about 7 months preggo at that time. The second time I came, my husband and I came with my mother and her partner. We booked the private, lake view pool. It was calm, quiet and serene. This was in August (still NZ winter, low season). The third time I came, I brought the whole family (hubby and two young kids) and we just spent time in the family pool area. This is a very economical option and our kids loved the water slide (we loved the warm mineral pools that are alongside the family pool area). The family area is much less luxurious - basic spaces to get changed, store your belongings. The spa locker rooms are much nicer with additional amenities. It's a great place to take the kids for a fun day out. There is a nice gift shop area where they sell a number of the product ranges that are used in the spa treatments. It's nice to be able to pick something up for yourself or someone else after your visit. There is also a cafe - it was being renovated when I most recently attended (September 2017). We live in NZ and I definitely recommend that people visiting us visit here (and I love going back). You just need to be a bit wise about planning your visit. read more

It was good. We paid for the Lake Spas so this review is based on that. From reading other reviews, I wasn't too keen to be swarmed by tourists, so my Husband and I paid extra to be in the less crowded Lake Spas. Seems that the tour buses often come there and all go to the Adult Pools. I gotta say though, for what you pay, the value is very low. They do provide towels and nicer toiletries (when they aren't stolen out of the showers). The staff was friendly and attentive (even the Ladies who are there to recruit you for spa services). My Husband and I both did the: "Lime Aix Massage - begin with gentle exfoliation using Coconut & Lime Blossom Sugar Polish, followed by a massage using organic coconut oil under a warm water shower." It was nice, and my therapist was good, but it wasn't the best massage. The constant stream of shower water, while nice and warm, became a variant of Chinese water torture after 20 minutes. The spa area was nicely landscaped, but quite small. Not many places to just sit and lounge in the water unless you wanted to sit on the bottom of the pool. It is worth going to experience the "Polynesian Spas" but don't expect to be blown away. There are better value spas within driving distance of RotoVegas! read more

This place is at once both great and underwhelming. When in New Zealand on business, I purchased a day tour with among other stops - a dip in some natural steaming hot springs. In my mind (and the brochure reinforced) I imagined some meadow in a forest or out by a waterfall or cave where I would find an opening in the earth with water that was heated by the constant escape of heat from underneath the earth. Instead, I was taken to a small town that is constantly plagued by the smell of sulfur (emitted from the pits) and to a spa that's not quite what spas in America are like. In fact, it's more like a community pool at the YMCA. Out front, there's a bunch of stuff you can buy if you want. Mud, shampoo, etc. Some very interesting stuff actually. You pay and go in and enter some locker rooms with lockers and showers. And then you go out back where there are a variety of different pools with different temperatures, with handrails for safety and steps to sit on and whatnot. It was a bit disappointing at first. To be fair, the view is quite nice and the smell of sulfur doesn't bother you after awhile. And if you get in the pool and just look out and take in the view, it's actually a great experience. But I was imagining some scene minimally touched by man, and this is not really it. Supposedly the water here is naturally heated by the earth. I kind of question that though, as each pool is heated and maintained at different temperatures. But overall, I was happy and I am glad I did it. read more

Honeymoon mode it is as me and the wifey embarked on our 2nd trip to Aotearoa (New Zealand) and our first trip here to Rotorua. Our purpose for this visit was just for this experience, to witness and experience the spa treatment with geothermically heated pools and massage. It was my first time doing a spa in general as I just do sauna or steam rooms and the rare jacuzzi at home in Honolulu. But I've never had the massages. We got the deluxe package, kinda pricey ($400 for 2 people) but after this experience, I'd say it was worth it. We checked in an hour early before our appointment (people usually check in 45min) as they briefed us on our treatment package. That left us more time in the geothermal pools. They have about 5 sets of pools with different degrees heat which range from 36 degrees (coolest) to 41-42 degrees Celsius (the hottest). If it's too hot there's a cooling shower within the area with water fountains. It's summertime but when you're out of the pool, the trade winds can cool you off or you can just half merge yourself in the pool. The pools overlook Lake Rotorua, so you can certainly smell the aroma of this part of NZ, Sulfur. It's a different experience than in any part of the world, not many places have geothermically heated pools. Though me and the wifey have done it before, in the more natural way in 2016, when we went to Hot Water Beach which is on the north island as well in Hahei. Dig up a hot spot in the sand and you get the same result, a geothermically heated pool. It's an interesting but cool experience. So after our experience in the 5 different pools, we showered in the locker room, and applied on our bathrobes. While this was my first experience, they have us wearing disposable see through underwear under bathrobes. While meeting our masseuses, we lied on the tables back and front. Let me tell you, I've never felt so physically relaxed in my life. Well besides being chemically relaxed in Amsterdam in a coffee shop ;). But this experience provided a wonderful relaxation experience, I had so many knots in my back and legs and it's all gone and smoothed out. And I felt so hungry after that their complimentary lunch of Pesto Wrap and a fruit drink "Refresh" topped a pleasant experience. I was planning to go to the Zorb after but I changed my mind. It's amazing. 5*****. I recommend anyone to try it. Big thumbs up on all the workers who work there. Excellent service and pleasant amenities. Mahalo Nui loa. read more

I really wanted to like this spa, but I just didn't get it. The two stars is essentially for the lake view, which is beautiful, the location is stellar, I'll give it that. As for the actual spa, I didn't do private or treatments, maybe that is better and the way to go. However, please note there is a 30 minute max for private pools, which is why we opted for the public (unlimited time). Had the deluxe spa package, which was pricey and really didn't give much, it's quite disappointing and actually felt unsanitary. The people that work there don't bother to explain much or show you around, it's not a great or intuitive design, the lounge chairs were plastic uncomfortable. No one really washed themselves before entering. The water was only calf deep in a few of the main pools and it just wasn't nice or an otherwise relaxing ambience. They don't have a sauna or steam room, which was also a bummer. I even had to ask for a bag at the gift shop to put my swim suit in, this should be provided, in my opinion. And your bathing suit really smells from the sulphur afterwards. read more

My husband and I stopped by here while we were in Rotorua to experience the North Island hot springs. While it is very touristy, we did enjoy the experience and the package we got. The location is great being both close to downtown and in walking distance to hotels and many restaurants, it makes it convenient to stop in here while exploring the area. We walked from our hotel and took a coupon our hotel had given us to get a discount on the adult package. We started with a private hot spring tub with a view of the lake. I really recommend this because it was so relaxing and romantic getting to just sit back with my husband and watch the birds on the lake. The lake has geothermal activity as well so you can enjoy the authentic sulfur fumes and steam coming off the lake along with the wildlife. After our time was up in the private viewing tub we joined a very busy adult pool area. There are several different tubs all at different temperatures, which was very convenient. Some of them can get quite hot and it was nice to cool off in some of the pools that were not as warm. We particularly enjoyed the pools closer to the lake so we could enjoy the sunset in style. This area was not very "spa like" but more public pool; however, they do a nice job with the landscaping in the pool area to give the illusion of a natural hot springs environment. Our package came with a complimentary beverage as you leave which was refreshing. The changing rooms are typical pool changing rooms but they were clean and tidy. We also appreciated the lockers they have available to keep your belongings in. Overall the price was quite reasonable and the hot spring tub soak felt great after the past few days of hiking. We had a very relaxing spa day at the Polynesian Spa. The staff was great and the facilities were quite clean. It's not a luxury spa, so don't expect to be pampered like a princess. We did the Lake Spa package (NZ$45/person), which includes a cold plunge pool, 5 mineral hot pools, and access to the changing facilities which includes showers, bath towels, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and hair dryers. I also loved the Priest Spring pool. The minerals are a bit more potent in this pool. These minerals are believed to have healing properties that can help with arthritis and other aches and pains. Hey, if it really works, that's pretty awesome! I also like that they stay open until 11pm. I would recommend going either super late or super early, otherwise you will be sharing the pools with tons of Chinese tourists from those obnoxious tour buses (and it will definitely be loud and un-zenlike). Other mentionables: They have feijoa ice cream at their little food stand (I'm obsessed with feijoas and if you are too, you're welcome). Neat little gift shop for perusing too. My boyfriend and I did the deluxe package and stayed there for 3 hours. The pools are very relaxing and the view is amazing. The only reason I'm giving it 4 starts is due to the price in comparison to what you get. I am from the states and the spa bathrooms when you pay at this price point are a lot nicer where you actually want to shower in them. These bathrooms where far from luxurious and did not match up with the geothermal pools provided. If they update the bathrooms to a more spa like experience I would definitely recommend splurging. For now, I would still recommend going but shower wherever you're staying and just enjoy the pools. read more

I I booked a deluxe private pool - beautiful view - initially it felt a little cool outside at 65 degrees Fahrenheit, but the thermal waters were quite warm that it actually felt nice to be sitting in the hot pool with the cool breeze outside. Didn't like the fact they charged 5$ per towel - but it was my own fault in not realizing that and bringing mg own from our hotel, service was efficient. It was a little pricey -60$ for 2 adults for 30 minutes but it was nice to have privacy and a beautiful view. We felt really relaxed afterward and had a nice fresh juice at the cafe. How this spa got so many high ratings baffles me. Horrible ambiance, very crowded and loud. I booked a mud wrap and made sure I had access to pools for after the therapy. I chose this spa because they marketed adult pools. Apparently paying $180 was not enough to get me into the adult pools. Kids were loud, cameras everywhere, locker rooms crowded, only 2 bathrooms to share with the masses. Nothing to put my wet bathing suit into so I wrapped it in paper towels. A wonderful treat for a great price. $45 gets you into the Lake Spa which includes 5 shallow pools overlooking Lake Rotorua. They all are slightly different temperatures and the one with the best view is the hottest (I assume this is a clever form of crowd control). This admission also includes a locker room complete with (free) lockers, changing stalls, clean showers with shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and warm towels. The luxurious shower alone was worth the entry fee. The pools can get boring fast but they have a lovely sitting area with views of the pools and plenty of magazines to read. Free wifi is clutch. PS, they are open late til 11 but no in-and-out privileges so soak up as much as you can! read more

We stopped here on a recommendation from our travel company and it Was a five minute walk from the hotel . Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Coming here early was nice as we had the pools to ourselves and enjoyed soaking in the different temperature pools. All of the pools in the lake spa area had a view of the lake. Shower area was clean. They didn't have a spinner to squeeze out the excess water from your suit but that's ok. Also all the pools were pretty shallow. You have to kneel or sit on the bottom to fully immerse yourself. Really enjoyed relaxing here and would come back again. read more

WHYYY IN THE WORLD DOES THIS PLACE ONLY HAVE 3 REVIEWS?! It is AMAZING and I hate using that word. It was apparently chosen as one of the top spas in the world by Conde Nast. (I don't really know if thats a big deal to the spa industry but I like the magazine so whatever.) My husband and I found this place while walking around looking for something to do in Rotorua near our hotel. We walked in and were pretty blown away by how relaxing this spa looked. We immediately booked our appointment. You're sitting in a hot spring overlooking lake Rotorua. It's beautiful. It's relaxing. They claim it has minerals that does great things for your skin. There's no roof over you, so you're outside enjoying the weather, surrounded by palm trees. During my visit, it started to drizzle and the cold rain mixed with the hot spring was perfect. We booked the mud wrap since Rotorua is known for their hot mud pools. If you book a wrap/massage, you get your visit to the hot pools for free. There is no time limit so you can stay in the hot pools and relax for as long as you want. It was open until 11pm, so it was perfect to do after the long drive from Auckland. Relatively inexpensive if you only do the hot pools and they have an area for children as well if you're doing a family vacation to Rotorua. Great, great place - probably one of the most enjoyable places we visited in New Zealand. read more
