Drove past Kaituna Cascades Rafting Company on my way to explore Okere Falls. The company is located in its own parking lot next door to the parking lot for Okere Falls trails. Stopped in to see if there were any remaking spaces on the 3 pm tour, as they offer trips a few times daily. Although there wasn't, we secured a spot on the tour then next day at 9 am. The price was about $170NZD total for both of us. We had a small discount card that helped with pricing. This is a very good and competitive price with the other rafting companies in the area. The caliber of guides is fantastic! We arrived, signed waivers, used the portable toilets- yikes- and got gear to change into. There are two dressing rooms with plastic bins that you can put all belongings- towels, clothes, etc.- into. According to the guides, the space is locked up when guides are out so there isn't a risk of theft. You need a bathing suit before you put on the wetsuit. Our day was cold so they gave us wetsuits and fleece tops which did the trick. All participants were split up into different boats with 5-6 people each and given tutorials before hitting the river. The river is classified as a 5 in difficulty and features three waterfalls- one is very large. My photo features my husband's adventure falling out of the boat on the waterfall. Our guide, Nick, was great and I felt safe. They are able to work with guests who cannot swim. The instructions are clear. This is an amazing way to spend a morning. Once the rafting was complete, a bus transferred us the short distance back to the company lot. We finished up around 12 or 1230. I spent the 40NZD for the photos of my husband. That's going on our holiday card. Overall, fantastic and worthwhile experience with knowledgeable and entertaining guides. read more
