I've conveniently provided photos of the location, a photo of their menu, and a sample of their deliciousness - an Oreo Concrete with Crunch Coat mixed in. I found this place by Google'ing (not Yelping - I know, I know) best Ice Cream in St. Louis. But it was so crazy - so many places in St. Louis and this one red dot east of the river (no shade, Washingtonians) caught my eye. I clicked it and Valerie S's mug came up. But then I read the three reviews and decided to check it out for myself. Be clear - this is what most folks would consider a hole in the wall. There is no website or anything fancy like that. This is a word of mouth joint. I actually took Metro there (which consisted a Metrolink (either line) to 5th and Missouri and a relatively short ride on the 4 bus.). I wouldn't suggest or recommend this option for everyone. It's not necessarily located in the best area of town - but just mind your business, be on your game, don't act like a tourist, and you should be good to go. If you're driving or ride-hailing, they have drive through in addition to walk-up. And why go? Because of the ice creamery, custardy, slushy goodness there is to be found. You can get soft serve (which is pretty good). You can get custard (which is pretty damn good). You can get slushies. And you can COMBO THEM ALMOST ANYWAY IMAGINABLE. You want a rootbeer slush with custard and mix-ins? Go for it. Just sweet cold nirvana. And not to be outdone, you can also get selected hot dishes. Mostly fried stuff like chicken fingers and fries (and cheese fries), but also like fried funnel cakes (what? yes!). Prices are rock bottom - which is awesome in my book. And Mello Freeze is black owned - which is also amazing. So when in the St. Louis area, show east of the river some love. Head on over to Mello Freeze and get creative. Your sweet tooth will be SO grateful you did.

There isn't much parking on the lot but that's why the side streets exist. I opted for a large. Combo of black cherry, wild cherry, and sour cherry. I felt there wasn't enough contrast between sour and wild cherry. Next time I'll go medium and get black cherry, lemonade or limeade, and sour cherry. The only thing I'd change: The styrofoam. It's 2019. Even if you have to raise prices by a quarter or fifty cents a size. Even if it doesn't insulate as well. No styrofoam. Just consider it. Thanks!

Frankly, I liked the plain ole vanilla. The ice cream melted incredibly quickly, while the custard held it's own. The total for 4 cones was just shy of $18, after military discount of 10%. There is plenty of seating and a couple of photo op spots on the covered patio. The menu is just a mounted sheet of paper behind acrylic, which makes it hard for multiple people to view. You'll want to preview online to be ready or there can be quite the wait as each person looks 1 at a time, at the ordering window. I think a larger menu or having extra copies out to view away from the window would be beneficial. The exit is also awkward, while the entrance & parking are a-ok. All in all, a solid way to wrap up time with family at a much-loved local spot!
