The kitchen is closed on Sundays!! I know this because I came here with my family on sunday and the kitchen was closed except sausage for some reason. We came back that Friday to check it out! The place is set in a renovated old house with countless Polish themed pictures, signs, music and artifacts hanging all over the walls! The lady who served us even has a thick Polish accent! Coming here really brings you into a sense of nostalgia to family traditions and feels like home! I ordered the platter that came with sausage, a cabbage roll, mashed potatoes, and 3 pirogies! We also ordered a potato pancake and a sort of cheese filled crepe for dessert! All the food was astounding, all fresh ingredients, so very authentic! My favorites were the stuffed cabbage, potato pancake and perog read more

My wife and I stopped in yesterday, what a wonderful find! The food was amazing, very much what we enjoyed as children in a polish household. Homemade authentic and delicious. The service was attentive and quick. The establishment also has a small store and deli, both amazing. Highly rated! Support your locally owned businesses... It's the way to go. read more

Not sure what to compare it to cause this was my first time trying polish food. This place is a little tucked back off the Main Street, I was able to walk here from where I'm staying though, not so bad. It's a cute place. The main sign outside is what gives this place away cause everything about this place just seems like a regular house on the outside. The house is super cute and I was surprised to walk inside and find that it was a small private owned polish restaurant/ market. You can order authentic food made ready to go or you can dine in. Only a few places to sit however this place doesn't look like it's very busy but that's what I love about it. There must have been about 5 people that came in while I sat and ate for a little less than an hour but they all orders something to go and then also ordered some meat behind the counter to take home and cook for later. Great place. Staff is amazing. Also they are polish so.... it's authentic read more

Polska Chata - Polish Near Me - Irondequoit, New York

Authentic and delicious! So tasty and filling! We ordered perogies, gulash, fish fry, potato pancakes. All amazing! The only weird thing was that other customers stared at us when walked into the dining room- like we were outsiders. I figured they are used to seeing their friends here and they were just seeing who we were. The decor is perfect - grandma's living room! There was even a guy playing an accordion read more

Pretty long lunch wait, but I expected it. Quaint little place, and excellent, excellent, excellent food! Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the wait. We got there shortly after noon, and didn't get our lunches until almost 1. read more

It was our first time ordering out from this restaurant. My mom is a true Ukrainian through and through and had helped make pierogi for her Church's annual festival,so I was skeptical that would enjoy her meal. She not only ate the fish, shrimp and pierogi, she said that everything was so delicious. I too enjoyed your food also and everything was hot.We will be back. read more

Good polish food, kind server. Went in on a Saturday before noon. Menu was easy to understand and server was able to answer questions we had. Dessert case looked amazing also. read more

Everything but the leg wrestling...! Pretty sure we sampled everything on the menu except all the various perogies. next time we'll ordered all 17 kinds and go after it. Everything tasted excellent, seriously. Even the fish fire was one of the best I ever had. I'm also glad it had a familiar polish feel- a european market vibe downstairs, polish decor and best of all it wasn't contemporary- just like the elks club/the cottage/grandmas kitchen smell. Thank you. read more

Dinner with my husband on Friday evening, we enjoyed delicious fish fry's with many different choices from mashed potato , shrimp , baked or Panko and really delicious coleslaw. Now that we are in the Flu pandemic we are getting takeout. Have not missed a week. Very lovely hardworking family. So many delicious foods to want to try. PS Really good tarter sauce too. read more

Wow!!! Food is authentic. This is one of those spots that is out of the way, small and authentic. This is one of those places when someone comes into town and wants to sample some of Rochester's hidden authentic cuisines you take them here and they won't be disappointed. FRESH Authentic Polish food. Fresh homemade pierogies, fish fries made to order, all types of Polish sausage's to die for. The atmosphere is quaint, clean and true to the Polish roots. The new management is excellent, friendly and courteous. They go out of their way to make you feel like you're a part of the family. I highly recommend if you have never been stop in to do so and say hello it's worth the stop. Don't forget to check their hours. Love the smells and experience every time read more

Lived in Greenpoint Brooklyn for 10yrs, which is a very Polish neighborhood. Ive never been to Poland, but basing my opinion off of living in Little Warsaw. The food and service here is amazing. Its a true Rochester gem and hopefully will be around for another 20+yrs. read more

Really enjoyed my first long-overdue visit to Polska Chata. On a day where I was craving pork & beer and Swan Market was closed, this place more than fit the bill. There are many similarities in a way between Swan and Polska -- both are in oldish neighborhoods in converted homes, family-run and full of home-cooking. Downside to Polska is that there is no draught beer, so you'll have to take your Polish nectar from the bottle. The bottles are 20 oz and $6 a pop. The majority of the seating is upstairs over the grocery store/deli and this is a room frozen in time, my friends. Maps of old Poland, photographs chronicling generations of immigrants, vintage lamps and old accordions adorn this cozy but chilly dining room. I want to go back when they're playing some polka music. The menu is wonderful but could probably be pared down in price and portion for lunch. Most of the entrees hang out at the $12-$15 price range, although you will most likely be able to take some home for another meal as well. They have an AMAZING seleciton of different fish fry plates that are only served on Fridays. I'm definitely going back for one of these during Lent! This time I tried pierogis wrapped in Hunters bacon as an appetizer, the Polish Sampler, while others at my table tried pierogies with gulash, stuffed cabbage and the sausage sampler. Everything was deliciously homemade. The pierogies were not chewy or overcooked: perfect texture, slightly salty, stuffed with homemade potato and onion. The bacon was outstanding...not sure if they buy this somewhere nearby or smoke it themselves? The gulash was savory with a hint of tomato, but the flavor wasn't overdone. The meat (beef and pork) was very tender. I really enjoyed the tender stuffed cabbage and the smoked pork sausage as well. The owner was very, very warm and welcoming and made sure that we felt at home. Overall, a little expensive for lunch, but an authentic and very pleasant experience at that. Highly recommend. Come with an appetite and leave with some time in your schedule for a post-prandial nap. read more

Yay I'm so glad I found this place! I actually found it on Groupon. As one reviewer said, this is the best Polish restaurant in the area...that's because it is the only one in the area. According to our waitress, the closest Polish restaurant is in Buffalo. But that's ok because Polska Chata is very good. I have only had Polish food before at Polka in Los Angeles, but I have been there a few times because I realized that I like Polish food. I think that the food at Polska Chata is equally delicious, but less expensive and smaller portion sizes (read: appropriate portions...I always felt overstuffed leaving Polka). Polska Chata's menu is kind of small, but it is also a store/deli and you can buy sausages, frozen pierogies, soup, spices, and other packaged Polish food items. We came for an early Friday dinner and were able to get 1 of the 2 parking spots in the "lot" in front of the building. Even if you're not as lucky as us, I don't think parking would be a problem--there seems to be plenty of street parking since it is on a side street. When you enter the building, you are in the deli/shop part. To the right are the stairs that lead to the dining area on the second floor. It's a very cozy homey atmosphere. We arrived a little before 5:30 so there was only 1 other party there and a man playing the guitar. Supposedly, Friday is Open Mic night, but perhaps we were there too early for all of the festivities. We wanted to try a variety of dishes, so we ordered the Polish Platter (kielbasa, 2 pierogies, stuffed cabbage, and kapusta), the Golabki (more stuffed cabbage), and the Potato Pancakes with applesauce and sour cream. We had wanted the gulasz with the potato pancakes, but they had run out. They said that they don't usually run out, but something about they were busy preparing other food for Christmas. Before our food came, they brought us little bowls with slaw and beets (I think this is only served with dinner, not lunch but I'm not positive). Both the slaw and the beets were very good--and I didn't think that I liked beets! Our food was ready before we even finished our slaw and beets so we had her bring it over. From our dinner, my favorite thing was the stuffed cabbage. It was very delicious, yet rather light (in a good way) because there is rice in it with the meat. The kielbasa was good too, but it was a kind of small piece (~3-4 inches long). The pierogi was okay--I think it was potato and cheese, but I wished that there was more cheese flavor. The kapusta was like sauerkraut and there was a little bit of some kind of meat in it. I did not like it a lot, but I do not like sauerkraut so I am not a good judge for that. I have not eaten potato pancakes very much, but I thought that they were very good too. The portion size was nearly perfect; we felt full but not stuffed, and we only brought home a bit of potato pancake and 1 mashed potato lump. After we ate, we shopped at the deli. My dad loves sausage, so he bought some garlic, double-smoked, and some kind of thin snack sausage that you don't have to cook. We tried the snack sausage soon after we left, and we loved it! Apparently, the next day my dad made some of the sausage for breakfast and then decided to go back to buy some more. He came back with more of the same sausages and potato&spinach and Thanksgiving turkey&stuffing pierogies. I have tried the double-smoked sausage and I like it a lot. For lunch we boiled some of the pierogies. I'll admit that I thought the turkey and stuffing pierogi sounded weird, but I actually liked it more than the potato and spinach one. I do enjoy the pierogi dough--it is soft and seems homemade. One more thing--the ladies (mother and daughter, I believe) are so nice! They were very hospitable and willing to answer our questions about the food on the menu and how to prepare the sausages. Ughh I wish I lived closer because I want to go back already! Update: Went back again and discovered that they have a lot in the back for about 6-8 more cars. Unfortunately, all of the tables upstairs were taken, so we were seated downstairs. I would recommend waiting for a table upstairs if possible. The downstairs room is tucked away and there are only 2 tables there. You are away from all the fun and music and service is not as good. Also, it's a little bit awkward because they have some merchandise (jarred food) there, and it feels a little weird when customers peek in to shop. As far as service, all of the ladies that work there seem to be nice but beware of the disgruntled teenage boy who is not very helpful and only does the bare minimum. read more

If you are craving delicious Polish food this is the restaurant for you. Everything is made by the owners in house and with great care. Clean and comfortable dining area. Not fancy but who cares when the food is that good? Yum! read more

This hidden, out of the way restaurant/deli is certainly charming. The deli is downstairs and the restaurant is upstairs. On a Friday night around seven there were a few tables occupied, and we were disappointed there wasn't any polka music as previous reviewers have mentioned. We split the polish platter and a plate of assorted pierogis. Now I'm no pierogi connoisseur, but they seemed very under seasoned, as though they'd been plopped out of the boiling water and smacked on the plate as is. I had to sprinkle with salt and pepper to enjoy. The polish platter was much more enjoyable. I loved the hunters stew, which I had never tried before, the stuffed cabbage was great, and the polish sausage was very flavorful. Interested to check out the deli as well. read more

Had lunch at Polska Chata (pronounced 'Pole-skuh HA-tuh') and really enjoyed it. I met a group of friends and we all had different dishes. I ordered the stuffed cabbage rolls (sorry I can't remember the Polish name for this dish). It was served with a side of chunky onion-y mashed potatoes, plus two large cabbage rolls stuffed with meat and rice, and a creamy tomato sauce over the top. Everything was stick-to-your-ribs tasty. This is exactly what I imagine Polish 'home cooking' to be like. Friends at the table had their sausage plates and combo plates - the amount of food you receive - for LUNCH - was pretty large. I felt it was a great value too. We ate upstairs in the cute dining room which is decorated as if Polka dancing takes place up the regularly.....and though we were the largest table (4 of us) there were several other diners enjoying their lunches too, so it had a good vibe. I would definitely go back - we never did get to try the Polish cheesecake! read more

My fiancee stopped here after work one night after I was browsing the internet and discovered somewhere other than Buffalo to get homemade pierogis. We bought 2 different kinds: potato and onion, potato and cheese, and farmers cheese with sugar. Myyyy oh my, SO good! I have to say the farmers cheese was my favorite because it was sweet, but not too sweet where its like a dessert. I was very impressed and definitely plan on going there for a sit down dinner. I love smoked sausage (my Polish uncle cooks this on Christmas Day for the family, and I have never been able to master it) so I am excited to try some here! Very happy! read more

The only way that i'm connected to Polska Chata is that I'm Polish! I grew up in traditional Polish-American family in Buffalo and have had more traditional Polish meals than most. Just giving you my credentials... this is the best Polish food in Western New York. I pray that they stay open forever so that I can pass these traditions down. Their Polish Platter offering gives you a bit of everything and is always done very well. I know that this is all subjective, but it's better than anything I've had form the Polish Villa or the Broadway Market in Buffalo. Although I appreciate what both of those aforementioned businesses stand for, my heart is now with the Chata! I strongly recommend giving their sausage a try at Christmas and Easter... if you have not already. The Polish groceries and deli is an added bonus and their service is incredible, especially the young blonde woman that typically works the register! read more

We really enjoyed our visit. The food was great as well as the service. The lady who is probably the owner is very welcoming and helps customers with information about Polish culture and cuisine. A true hidden gem in that area! We 'll visit again. read more

Really wanted to like this place. Cool rustic European atmosphere, like grandmas house, in a good way. Ordered off the lunch menu, open face sandwich with ham, mushrooms, onions, etc. Tasted identical to a hot dog you can get at any street vendor for $3. right down to it being smothered in ketchup. Friend got an expensive sampler style plate, was ok. We both ordered beers which came room temperature. Let me tell you, warm Polish beer does NOT taste good.(beer in Poland is served ice cold) Server made no mention or apologies for this. She also almost dumped my food on my lap as she served it to me saying "you almost wore it!" Never came back to check on how we were liking our food, and was all around not friendly. With so much great and inexpensive ethnic food around, you can do much better than Polska Chata. Could have been a great experience but fatal flaws left me not wanting to return. read more

Polish platter is all you need!! Great restaurant and selections of take home meats and snacks.

Had lunch meat platter, sausage platter, fish fry, white sausage. All were excellent. Sausage was like nothing I have tasted. Dunno if they make there own or what but it is delicious, all of them. Waitress was very nice. I didn't like the TV as we were right beneath it, it was just playing music. The ambiance would be better without tv. Music should be played on a sound system not tv. Brought eight people and everyone liked everything. Oh and bacon wrapped perogie was awesome, so we're fried perogie. Five star. read more

If you are looking for first rate, authentic Polish food in Rochester, Polska Chata is not just the best restaurant, it is the only one worth considering! It is run by two Polish immigrants, who are passionate about their home country's traditions and most of all food! The restaurant is small and is appended to a deli/grocery store, which also offers traditional Polish food. The dishes run from very traditional Polish pierogi sand golombkis, to a delicious fish fry on Friday nights. Don't be surprise if on Saturday there isn't some live entertainment there playing a mix of Polish and American music. This place has much to offer including delicious food, excellent Polish beer and a wonderful festive atmosphere. It all comes together because the owners Margaret and Joe know what they are doing and are very passionate about it. Don't miss this one...na zdrowie! read more

With polish immigrant grandparents, I am a tough sell but this place is my go-to for kielbasa, pierogies, and cabbage rolls for our family parties. The restaurant upstairs is like a secret hideaway but the wait was short. We ordered polish beer, a sausage sampler, and potato pancakes. The food came fast and our waitress was friendly. Not to mention there was much to talk about just looking over all of the memorabilia and collectibles around the dining room. Will return! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester area. The food is excellent and authentically Polish. Your waitress can help you order if you are hesitant. Everything I tried was delicious. I am not of Polish background. The atmosphere is casual and you have to climb a flight of stairs to the dining area. There are interesting photos of people and buildings from Rochester's Polish immigrant community of years gone by. You can buy Polish goodies to go home at the deli on the main floor. read more

After reading the rave reviews, we decided to come here to give the place a try. We arrived here soon after lunch ended and the place was empty. When we entered, a woman told us to go upstairs and she'll be with us. It took about 15 minutes before she showed up. We thought she forgot about us. Daughter ordered the Stuffed Cabbage and liked it. I ordered the Beef Tripe Soup, which was ok. I thought it was a nice touch that they gave a slice of rye bread with it. Hubs ordered the potato pancakes and dozen pierogies. The pierogies were meh but the potato pancakes were ok. We were both disappointed and surprised to find out that only potato pierogies with onions were available. No substitutions were allowed and we were told that we couldn't half of one pierogie and half another. I wonder why only potato pierogies were available when there were varieties in the fridge? After sitting and waiting for the waitress to come back upstairs, we sent our daughter downstairs to get the bill and were told that we were supposed to come downstairs to pay. Had we known that, we wouldn't be sitting upstairs like total idiots waiting for her to come back upstairs. We thought that since she told us to go upstairs to wait for her to take our order, she'd eventually be back upstairs to give us our bill or tell us to pay downstairs. Also, we ordered 2 cokes and they were flat. I was disappointed with the service considering the time and effort it took to get here. Food was no big deal and tasted like all the other Polish places that I've been to. If I wanted that kind of service, I would've stayed home. Won't be returning. read more

I had been meaning to try this place for a while and finally got around to it tonight. My husband and I ordered potato pancakes, pierogies and (non smoked) kielbasa.. I grew up eating this kind of food regularly so I am kind of picky and I will say it was very good. Service was slow at first but there was only one girl working the entire place. We will definitely be back, and we also bought food from the deli to take home and prepare. read more

Fantastic hidden Polish restaurant! I went with a friend on a Friday night around 8, and on Fridays there is a man playing keyboard. However, I would suggest catching an early dinner because they close by 9 PM and the place clears out. The food was served promptly (though it took a bit longer to have our order taken), was delicious, and was quite filling! I ordered the pierogi and kielbasa plate ($9), a potato pancake ($3), and a house Polish beer on tap ($5), and I had plenty of leftovers. Polska Chata is in a renovated house off of East Ridge Road, with a delicatessen downstairs and restaurant seating upstairs -- very charming! I will absolutely be returning. read more

Delicious Polish food that I think anyone would enjoy! The food here is "almost" as good as my Polish grandparents', which I think is about the highest praise I can possibly give a restaurant. If you're not sure what to order, they have the "Polish Platter", which is a giant plate of food containing various Polish favorites. My boyfriend and I have been here multiple times and have had almost all of the dishes, and we have not been disappointed once. The portions are very generous, and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Anyhow, since I'm far from home now, if I'm with friends and want to show them quality Polish cooking, I bring them here. read more
