I loved my first visit to Polska Chata. I'd say it's on par with Sokolowsky's in Cleveland foodwise, and the vibes and atmosphere are amazing. Excellent and prompt service. Great beer selection. I wouldn't recommend the cheesecake if you are expecting a silky texture, it was more grainy and had raisins in it. The mustards and horse radish are great accompaniments to a great crisp sausage on the sampler platter. The pierogi are very good also. You're in your Polish friend's (or your) Grandma's home. The service is very friendly, attentive, and fast. The food is AMAZING. We had the following dishes and all of them were excellent, to best I've ever had. Beet, cole slaw, and pickle salad, bacon and bean soup, and a potato pancake for an appetizer. I had heard about a really good polish place in W.Irondequoit. The problem with polish cuisine is it's typically not exactly vegetarian friendly. I came across an Instagram post about the vegan options at Polska Chata and realized this was the place everyone had told me about! I ordered the vegan platter and my husband ordered smoked sausage, pierogies, and goulash on with potato pancake. We took it to go but there's some limited outdoor seating. I also got a polish hot mustard (there's a small polish goods shop inside as well) and some polish candies. I also got a polish Pilsner The pierogies were AMAZING. My husband loved the goulash/potato pancake combo and I LOVED all the vegan options in the platter. I just wish there was a sauerkraut option in it. Polska Chata is absolutely one of our new favorites and we will be back soon. read more

I usually let my husband drive the restaurant choosing bus...but tonight I picked and it was probably the best find ever!!! We were lookIng up what foods Rochester is known for, and thought fish fry sounded good. This little place came up, but when I looked at the menu I knew fish fry was probably off the table. This is the food of my husband's people. It's a little house in a neighborhood. When we got there, they told us one table was left upstairs. The first floor is a little shop with polish meats. The second floor is the dining area. Very small, probably make a reservation for dinner. We decided to order a couple apps, and share the Polish sampler plate for dinner. The three salad samples included a beet salad that I couldn't stop eating...and cole slaw that would have made the fish fry proud. When I took my first bite of the BIG potato pancake, I seriously wanted to cry. It was the most perfect potato pancake in the universe. The ham and bean soup tasted like my gram stood over the stove for hours to make it. The Polish Sampler had stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes, smoked sausage, sour kraut and Pierogis. I'm a little bit of a stuffed cabbage snob...like anyone who has a family who has made it for generations...so let's just ignore that one tiny part of the dinner. The mashed potatoes were buttery and perfect. The sausage was garlicky deliciousness. The kraut had meat and bacon...and the Pierogis were little cloud pillows Really. Dough like I haven't had before. We did split a piece of apple streusel...not only is it beautiful it's the perfect finish here. What a delightful place. You walk in to a deli counter and then upstairs to the dining room. The service is fast, the space is quaint and the food is good. I strongly recommend the bigos. It's like a cabbage, sauerkraut, meat stew. To die for if you like cabbage. Another Rochester disappointment. (Caveat: I ordered delivery, eat-in experience might be different.) Had the vegan polish platter and some extra non-vegan pierogi. The food's certainly adequate, but all underwhelming. The vegan cabbage roll has a tamale-like filling rather than rice, with an odd texture. The pierogi are fine but not as fresh or pillowy as the good ones in Pittsburgh or Chicago. Vegan bigos was more sauerkraut than mushroom or other vegetable. Marinated beet salad was very nice, though. If I wanted Polish food in Rochester again, I'd probably just wait for a Saturday and go to Cherry's. read more

Let me start this review off with the vibe of the place and the feel. You walk in and see a deli looking place with beautiful looking meats and other items. You walk up stairs to the right and find a cute little dining room with 10 tables, some large, some small. The walls are covered in authentic polish pictures and outfits. It feels as if you are in an old polish grandmothers house waiting to be filled with the most authentic polish food. Now onto the food! I ordered the 6 pierogies with smoked sausage. With this beautiful plate of pierogies it comes with caramelized onions, sour cream, and a sprinkle of dill. I have had many pierogies but I have never had any this authentic and rich with history. It is amazing! The potato to dough to sausage to onion ratio is spot on! Rally truly authentic food here that you can't get anywhere else unless you have a polish grandmother in your family who makes homemade pierogies! The service here was also phenomenal! Our waiter was patient with my questions about the menu and had great explanations of what was on this authentic menu. I've hit up Polaka Chata a couple times in its current location. Many years ago when it was diagonally across Ridge in a little plaza I'd ventured in the door a few times after breakfast at a nearby diner. I randomly bought things but never was a regular customer. The stand-alone building (house) they are located in now is perfect for what they're doing. There's less of a focus on packaged goods as there was in the original spot but that doesn't seem to be a negative at all. The meat counter is right inside the front door and you can see into the kitchen behind it. There are some shelves in that entry room with chocolates, relishes and the like. A small room to the left has shelves for other packaged goods as well. To the right are freezers, at the base of the stairs to the second floor, with all their various perogies in small, convenient retail packages. Upstairs is the dining space in what looks to have been a separate apartment based on there being one room that looks like a kitchen. The dining room is spacious and lovingly filled with local Polish historical pictures and other objects. The food is great. I've had the sausage platter, perogies, potato pancakes and everything has been delicious. Service is relaxing as is the room itself. I've also purchased sausage to take home. This is a really wonderful, local, independent business that I hope will be around for decades to come. read more

This is such a cute, little restaurant with very authentic Polish cuisine. When my husband pulled up the restaurant, he made the comment that we must be eating in someone's home. That's certainly how it feels. We were welcomed warmly by the owner and she told us what their lunch specials were. Each were $9.00 with 6 homemade pergioes. My husband had the smoked sausage and I tried the kapusta. We were told to go up to their upstairs seating area with its array of old pictures and books displayed. The downstairs place also has a freezer section where you can buy homemade pierogies and other very authentic Polish sauces. There were many assorted flavors of pierogies like farmer's cheese, potato, potato and other mixes, meat options, and even dessert pierogies. Everything looked fresh and homemade. I knew Gwen Stefani back then by the way. Hottie. Had a major crush when I was 13. Major. Memories, they can be inviting, but some are altogether mighty frightning. So I stopped in here and shared some of a Polish platter with a friend. I was going to write, with a fiend, because she really is. She didn't like it as much as Sokolowski's (Cleveland), Hubert's (Columbus), Pierogies Plus (Pitt) or Polish Villa & Peter K's (Buffalo), but she, like me, thought it was excellent homestyle Polish food. It loses a star for being not the best I ever had and for being a little overpriced, similar to this little back street place in Niagara Falls, named Polish Nook. In fact, this little back street place here in Rochester (Irondeqoit to be exact) reminds me so much of Polish Nook that if I didn't know better, I'd swear they had the same owners. A nice little find. The restaurant is upstairs while the main floor is a deli and grocery store. They have homemade pierogi that you can buy and prepare at home. We ordered lunch and it came rather quickly. The meal was rather tasty; however, the mashed potatoes were bland. We wanted to rave about this place! Ate lunch here a few days ago. First there is misinformation on YELP! They are only closed on Monday!!!! Yelp keeps saying they are closed so don't be fooled! The restaurant is quaint and authentic! Lots of nostalgia and artifacts from 80 and 90 years ago locally. The service was adequate but not extraordinary as Mr. Peabody once said. As for the food, we sampled the house pierogis with kielbasa and the beef and pork stew. All the meat was good and above average. However, the pierogis we were served tasted like they had been frozen then boiled in water and not long enough. Colder center! The outside was too thick for our taste . And way too doughy! Potato stuffing tasted old. So we were disappointed! I grew up with Polish and Czech food so perhaps we were expecting too much! An absolute gem. The downstairs deli has the best assortment of jams, mustard and tea, at great prices. I don't eat pork, so I usually get the fish fry. My wife gets potato pancakes or blintzes ( Polish Jewish names, but same food). Best fish fry in town! Yes, the perogis were frozen...but after being made from fresh potatoes downstairs. Fantastic service, huge portions, cheap prices, and a homey atmosphere. You feel like you were invited to a Polish family dinner. Try the Polish beers. The staff are all Polish speaking (& from what I can deduce all know each other & owners from the Polish community) and just WONDERFUL!! A friend of mine and I were discussing ethnic cuisines around the ROC, and she mentioned this Polish restaurant, known for its pierogi. How had I never heard of it? So on my next opportunity for lunch out at a restaurant, I suggested Polska Chata and am *not* sorry! What a cool establishment -- with a deli and small grocery store on the bottom floor of a converted house (unique!!!) ... and restaurant upstairs -- with only about 10 tables, so go when you have some time to wait, in case they're fully seated. My friend and I each got a plate of 6 pierogi topped with melted butter, caramelized onions and chopped parsley -- I added a stuffed cabbage roll to mine and he got a smoked sausage with his. And we added an order of potato pancakes, served with sour cream -- YUM! We also each got a glass of "Polish Juice" (sweetened black currant juice) over ice ... and it was the perfect accompaniment of sweet-sour to cut through some of the luscious fat! Polska Chata is absolutely spectacular! Authentic food, great service, and a fun environment make this a restaurant that we are sure to come back to. We ordered an array of food, and everything we tried was just SO good. I would be 100% fine ordering anything off of the menu, but definitely recommend Hunter's Stew. While not technically kid-friendly (not really kid seating or a kids menu), they DO have a high chair, and our two-year old loved trying this new food.
