Food is always good but call early to order. They only can take so many orders each day, otherwise you will have a long wait time. But the fish fries are awesome. Served with delicious pierogies. Excellent and very filling. Haven't tried anything else there but they do sell other Polish food and some desserts. And I just heard that you can eat there. There there is a room upstairs. read more

While visiting my parents here in NY I somehow ended up at yalls Polish Festival with my friend Kelly who is very proud of her polish heritage. I honestly wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when she told me that she had ordered us squirt guns and that the girls were supposed to spray they boys and a supposed to get the girls with pussy willows. Sadly, the squirt guns did not arrive from Amazon before we left the house for the event bc no one else had squirt gums when we're got there a little after 5:00pm, I did however see some people with pussy willows. The set and flow to order and pick up food went very smoothly. My friend got a platter and I opted for 6 pirogies and a side of kielbasa and a ticket for water or soda. If they had listed the beer/wine options in the tent where we purchased the food tickets, I may have spent the money on an alcoholic drink. I did like that they had the schedule posted and for the most part they stuck to it. There was a decent amount of people there but it didn't feel too crowded. We got our food and sat at a high top table right on the front porch which allowed for conversation while still people watching. The food was really good, probably the best pirogies I e ever had to be honest! We listened to a few songs from the band but the pirogi eating contest was quite the sight! I do wish that the women running/coordinating the contest didn't use a microphone. I think it would have been a bit more polished if they were able to announce the rules and then learn about each of the participants and then announce, honor and present the prizes to the winners. So, I've been to Polska Chata before but never wrote a review. Let's fix that, shall we? It's located off Ridge Road in a converted house, giving it a warm, homey vibe. Inside, it's part deli, part restaurant--you can grab pierogies, deli items, or menu orders to go. When you arrive, wait to be seated don't just pick a table. The dining area is upstairs, and once you're seated, you'll notice it's bright and welcoming. The wood floors and tables add to the cozy charm. Also lots of beautiful stained glass. Our server was pleasant and helpful the whole time. I ordered the cabbage rolls with tomato sauce and mashed potatoes, and added the daily pierogi potato and cheese. Everything was flavorful and was homemade. My friend had the Schabowy & Schnitzel, a breaded pork cutlet served over salad. It looked great, and he enjoyed every bite. We tried dessert, but to be honest... I'd skip it next time. The cheesecake was a bit odd-tasting. Stick with the savory dishes, and you'll be happy. Bonus: they serve Polish beer. My only real complaint? I wish my food had been a touch hotter. Not cold, just not quite hot enough. Still, I'd absolutely go back. And when it's warmer, they have outdoor seating available. I got the Vegan Platter. It was take-out so I can't say what the restaurant's atmosphere is like. It came with a cabbage roll, marinated (beet) salad, vegan bigos, and 4 delicious pierogi. I came for the Schnitzel, and was not disappointed. A plate of Salad topped by a large schnitzel was the perfect lunch. A Trio of Pierogi(potato & cheddar) to accompany a generous portion that became also dinner. Polish Juice, Black Currant, was the perfect drink for this meal. I've found a new favorite place. The setting is a family run business, a house. The lower part grocery and kitchen, and the upper floor the dinning room. I just moved to upstate NY and I have been craving Eastern European food for a while. My friends took me to Polska Chata and we had a blast. The place is very welcoming and cozy. We ordered their Polish platter, three appetizer combo and schnitzel. The Polish platter was great, I enjoyed all of the items. My favorite was definitely the schnitzel and it's a huge portion. Authentic polish cuisine!! The food portions were large! They are known for Theo pierogi and Friday fish fry's! The restaurant part of the bldg is upstairs in a house type bldg. The stairs can be a challenge. The service was good but I would have liked it if they took the time to explain some things on the menu. We went on a Friday evening and there was a person playing the accordion and piano. It was very nice however extremely difficult to hear in such a small area. We loved all the polish decorations and ambiance. We also ordered desserts that were all amazing!! In the front of the restaurant is a deli type store and you can purchase the pierogi's, meats, cabbage rolls desserts and much more! Great comfort food. If you go to Rochester you have to plan to eat here! This is the absolute best authentic polish food you will ever taste. Every time we are in Rochester we always pick up Potatoe pancakes by the dozen but you better get there early because they sell out daily! You eat upstairs in what seems like a historic polish restaurant with really cool old historic photos and polish heritage memorabilia and are met with a extremely friendly waitstaff which you can tell it's a very nice family business. The flavor and quality of food is just excellent - the dough of the perogis was extremely light and airy and the filling was creamy and seasoned very well. Go here you won't regret it! read more

Looking for a new food experience, we tried Polish food at Polska Chata! What a treat! Not only is the food delicious, but the restaurant is super charming, decorated in a traditional Polish theme! We went on a Friday evening and got to enjoy live accordion music to really help set the mood! Service was exceptional, and the staff was friendly and professional. Their signature potato pancakes, perogis, and fish fry were amazing! But just between you and me, their pickled beets were the real stars! We went early and got a table straight away. By the time we left, the place was filling up fast. Making a reservation might be a good idea during the weekend. The best part? The market on the first floor! This is my experience. Take it or leave it. How have I never found this place before? Finding a great Polish restaurant isn't easy, but it looks like I found one! I was surprised walking into a deli as the website did not give that impression at all. Not that I mind a good deli, but I was expecting a nice sit down. What is this? I was looking around at the frozen periogies and whatnot when I discovered a back staircase that took me up to an adorable little seating area above the deli. I was quickly greeted by a very nice server who told me to sit anywhere I would like. There was one other couple having lunch, but they soon left, and I had the entire area to myself. The walls are full of polish memorabilia, including a sign for the first Dingus Day in Rochester (iykyk). I ordered a cold Kozlak and a hot bowl of borscht to start my meal. I always enjoy nice Bock but this one paired perfectly with my meal so I recommend it. The borscht was piping hot and full of shredded beats. I needed to add a touch of salt, but otherwise, it was some of the best I have had. I followed with the polish platter because what else would you get when trying a polish restaurant for the first time (don't judge me). The server suggested I swap the mashed for the pancakes but quickly came back and informed me they were sold out. I was there about 30 minutes before they closed the restaurant, so at least I know they are fresh each day. I will be back to try them for sure. The food is excellent, the cabbage rolls were very good and the tomato sauce worked perfectly. The farmers' stew is delicious, and it might be the best I've ever had. The kielbasa is smokey and moist, and the pierogie dough is as soft and delicate as I've ever had. Potato and cheese was pierogie of the day, so yay for me! What a hidden gem! oh. my. gosh -- i cannot believe i hadn't been to Polska Chata until today, RUN do not walk. 1st impressions: the deli/restaurant is inside a very beautiful old house, entry is on a welcoming porch with comfortable seating. you walk into a deli area with stuffed full dessert/meat case & pierogi/veg coolers. decor is dark, earthy, warm but also open, clean & well organized. we were greeted immediately & with genuine hospitality. we sat outside but the seating upstairs looked super cool & cozy as well. our server was awesome. potato pancakes w/ pork meat sauce, beet soup, pierogis, pickled salads, real farmer cheesecake were all OUT OF THIS WORLD. i cannot wait to bring more of my friends here (especially the vegan ones!) & am so happy to have found a restaurant with authentic ancestral food - such a gem!! read more

I absolutly love Polska Chata! Everyone who works there is so friendly and welcoming. They are one of my all-time favorite Rochester restaurants. They are an Easter staple for us. We love to get Easter bread and painted eggs during the season. Outside of Easter, my favorite things to get are the pierogi of the day and their White Borscht when they have it. Their food is always so flavorful and delicious. My family and I love to sit in their upstairs restaurant whenever we can. It is so nicely decorated and cozy! read more

On a bitter cold Rochester March Saturday afternoon, we met up with a friend for this polish fare and left 2 hours later warmed and carefree as if we escaped to a European cafe. Delicious authentic polish dishes and old world charm inspired the soul, satisfied tastebuds and fueled me to see Rochester in March is more than the persistent grey skies that dampen the area. Taking the stairs up to the second floor that opens to charming polish decor dining hall brought a huge smile both inside and out. Service was terrific and inviting. It begs you to want to stay awhile and the place clear your mind and satisfy your stomach. Cabbage rolls were classic with just right amount of sweetness. Real good with cooked cabbage. Smoked garlic kielbasa was delicious and the kielbasa comes in a few flavors. I really liked the pirogies. Potato pancakes were a slightly oily but still tasty good. Love the Borsch soup. This review is for the restaurant only, but I fully intend to go back for the market's homemade pierogi freezer of goodness. We ordered the potato pancakes, pierogis, and a sausage platter. Everything was absolutely wonderful and absolutely covered in butter! The night we were there, they had *just* renewed their liquor license, so they only had two polish beer varietals. We tried both and I can confidently say that polish beer is probably not for me. Anyways, I am hoping they might have some wine or other options by the next time we swing by. We were there on a Friday night and it wasn't overly crazy. Well last night was at Polska Chata was Dyngus day the celebration of polish people which is the day after Easter. It's such a fun time with boys liking girls and pouring water over the girls they like. Fabulous polish traditional foods were served and who wouldn't want to be a contestant in the perogi eating contest or the polish eating contest, it's not for the weak let's just say! Plenty of polish beers served in the big tent out back and polka dancing the night away! This brought me back to my polish roots, what a Super time. This was the best restaurant meal I have had in Rochester. We moved here in early 2020 (I know, great timing) and by virtue of many factors, we eat lunch out a lot (its my main daily meal, and sometimes my only one as I will eat fruit in the evening). I have a thing for mom-and-pop pizzerias and especially Lebanese food, but after eating at Polska Chata ("Polish Cottage") today I now have a thing for Polish food, too. The food is amazing, gently flavored and seasoned, hearty, filling, delicious. And lots of it. And the beer...a big list of Polish beers, most considerately listed as to weight and color, from Pilsner to dark. We had two different beers and although my wife isn't really a beer or wine person she really, really liked the beers. I did, too! We intend to try them all. We ordered three entrees between the two of us as we like taking stuff home for a re-eat. Wife had the blood sausage plate and I had the pork cutlet (pork schnitzel), as well as the Polish sampler plate. Oh my God. What an amount of food. Massive. First, my schnitzel was bigger than the plate and effectively hid the mashed potatoes, the sauerkraut and the ramekin of sliced beets. THE SCHNITZEL WAS DELICIOUS. The mashed potatoes were delightfully lumpy and gently seasoned (nothing had "too much salt" in it) and the kraut is hard to adequately describe: cabbage not too sour but full of meaty flavor since it is obviously cooked with chunks of pork and sausage therein. You could make a whole meal of it alone. The blood sausage plate comes as a mound of what would otherwise be probably called sausage filling. Resembling hash, it is astonishingly dark and full of flavors that don't really make you think you are eating something with the word "blood" in it, since blood can leave a metallic, saline aftertaste that not everyone likes. It is accompanied by bread that is probably baked on the premises or somewhere close. Fresh and flavorful. The sampler plate astonished me, and as a veteran diner I am hard to impress (see some of my negative reviews). This overflowing plate of almost everything they make was more than I could finish (oh, and I took home half the Schnitzel, too, and a bunch of the sides; wife ate half her mound of blood sausage). It comes with a piece of kielbasa that resembles a baseball bat more than a sausage, 3 or 4 pierogis, a giant leaf of stuffed cabbage filled with about a cup or more of meat and rice, a big ladle of mashed potatoes and a mound of sauerkraut. Since I'm running out of superlatives, I will add one more: the most personable and engaging server/waitperson (probably part owner and operator!) I've had the pleasure of being hosted by in a long time, Poland-born and Polish-fluent. Thank you! We didn't have any room for dessert, but stopping at the fridge case in the front as we paid my wife bought and took home a section of heavy garlic sausage and I a piece of blueberry and cheese strudel. Folks, this is really great food. They also have a unique take on Friday Fish Fry Night: a bunch of different fried fish treatments, each with a Polish flair. My Polish consists solely of "Jedno piwo, proszę" which means "one beer please" and I have been to Poland myself, many years ago, visiting Krakow, and, alas, also Oswiecim, a town which is unfortunately famous for the Auschwitz extermination camp. This was my first time having what one can only believe is authentic Polish food served generously and flavorfully. Go eat at Polska Chata. We plan to, again, and often. read more

Polska Chata is under new ownership/management, and while some of the friendly faces from before are still there, you can sense a bit of the newness and change. The biggest change is their presence on facebook. Nearly daily updates advertise what food specialties are available on any given day. They are trying some new things too - like the latest Zupa Gołąbkowa (Cabbage Role Soup). Think along the lines of your grandma's traditional cabbage rolls in soup form. It's quite good with a red tomato base. I would definitely order it again. I also recently had Czerwony Barszcz (Red Beet Soup) with a dollop of sour cream. It was also delicious - with plenty of beet and beef bits too. But don't worry my vegetarian friends, Polska Chats is offering vegetarian options on some of their offerings. Bigos for example has a veg option. And for those of you who know me, I'm a big fan of bigos (search yelp for bigos and my reviews will probably pop up) so take my word for it that it's good. I'm hesitant to tell you this, but Tuesdays are when fresh bread comes in. (leave some for me). I think it's mainly from Syrena Bakery in Brooklyn. They are well known in the NYC area, and I would love to get my hands on that more often. And I was so happy to find Sok Porzeczkowy (Black Currant Juice/Nectar)! This is my favorite flavor and sorely missed here in the states. I still haven't been into the restaurant upstairs, but I enjoy taking food out and it continues to be tasty. This restaurant is a true gem in the Irondequoit area! It's located in a house, the bottom floor is like a mini European market with things like pickles and sauerkraut and of course perogies. There's a fridge full of them! They also have desserts which I resisted trying but they look really yummies. The upstairs is where you can sit down and have a meal. I went during lunch hour and it wasn't very crowded. The waitress was a young girl and she's either very new or very incompetent. She was very confused for some reason when she brought out our plates (there were only four of us...), didn't really know the menu too well, and couldn't figure out how to refill our waters without struggle...try moving around the table to refill water instead of standing still is my advice. I couldn't care less about the service though because the food was delicious! I got the polish platter because I just couldn't decide. It includes a cabbage roll, a sausage, hunter's stew, mash and perogies. The cabbage roll was a good size and the filling had great savory flavor. The sausage was so deliciously meaty and I got a link, so it had a great crunch to it. The hunter's stew was my favorite. It was tangy and the sauerkraut was just to die for. The brightness of it was great on the palate and compliments the heavier things on the platter. The perogies were huge and they were so soft like fluffy pillows! The platter comes on a small plate but it's actually quite a bit of food. I also got the potato pancakes. I'm a little iffy on this one. Although it had great potato flavor, they were a bit oily and not as good as the polish place in geneseo. I wouldn't mind eating it again, but for $8 for 2 pancakes, it's not a great value.
