All the vendors are super friendly and love to make conversation! Great way to spend a morning! The ambiance is very quaint and friendly! Overall a great atmosphere and way to buy. Thank you for the recommendation, Fodor's! We were running out of time on our hunt to find them when I realized, 'I've got my trusty guidebook!!' And that's how we ended up here. It was 12 Euros for 6 oysters and a glass of wine. Since there were four of us, the lady was nice enough to give us 4 cups of wine (yes, plastic cups - it's a farmer's market, what do you expect!) They even threw in an extra oyster! SO FRESH! SO BIG! (cue that's-what-she-said joke). Compared to NYC oysters, these babies looked like they were on steroids! They also have this dipping sauce (had onions and was really vinegar-y, but good. But if you don't like the sour, you should just take the oyster straight.) Didn't eat anything else from other stands because we just had lunch. However, I believe they had shish kebabs, crepes, and bread. Oh and FYI - Sheridans Cheesemongers was there (saw this place on Anthony Bourdain when he went to Dublin so thought this might be worth mentioning). Definitely check out this farmer's market!

I don't know where to start with Fothergills. We were fortunate to stay in one of the apartment…read morerooms above the cafe and were welcomed to a complimentary coffee and pastry for breakfast during our stay. The cafe is super cute; one side is more of a restaurant scene with tables, menu, and waitresses and waiters on hand. The other side is more of grabbing something quick to eat and/or drink. I've tried the raspberry muffin. It was so fresh and good words cannot even describe it. I'm more of a blueberry muffin person but being that was not an option at the time I chose raspberry and I did not regret it. My fiancé and I also tried the Irish breakfast (I posted a pic and noted what it consisted of). So awesome! A hearty breakfast was a great way to start a day of exploring in Dublin. The next day, I tried the croissant and scone. They pretty much melted in my mouth. As you walk in the cafe, you could smell how fresh everything was. Anyway, we had planned to drive to the Cliffs of Moher that day and decided to get a couple of sandwiches and saw they had a variety of choices to choose from. I ended up creating my own sandwich; it was super delicious! Even when we ate it hours later, it was still good. We tried the Irish cheese and onion chips and it blew my mind. It's similar to the sour cream and onion here in the states but a hundred times better. I found myself looking for more onion and cheese chips during my stay in Ireland. The cafe started open later than other cafes I'm used to but we never made it back in time. With good prices and great food we probably would have eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. I would definitely visit this place again if I ever get the opportunity to return to Dublin. It made our visit a truly remarkable one.

Yes, this is the enemy of the short fat and balding male rapidly reaching middle age, it is Fothergills, a shop filled with everything from a frankly obscene selection of the most appetising pastries known to man - including those squares of short bread covered with caramel and topped with chocolate.... Excuse me... I need a moment alone... Ahem... cakes... they do cakes as well and jam - I took pictures of the jam shelf, just to show you they take this sort of thing seriously... and quite right too.

In the same vein as my other beloved Dublin food hall, Fallon & Byrne, Listons has a wide selection of charcuterie, cheese, nuts, pastas, tea, chocolates and wine. I chose a tomato basil soup and a tuna, cheddar and sundried tomato panini for lunch and ate it picnic style back in my hotel room. The sandwich was absolutely glorious. The soup, while not incredible, was proficient. The staff at Listons also deserves a mention - they're super sweet!

I was at the blues stage were seeing an old woman being over taken by power walking younger folks whilst they listened to their i-pods lost in themselves and their outward image made me really sad. It actually brought a frog to my throat & made me slightly teary - yes it did. I started thinking about how impersonal people these days can be; yup I was in a rut. Because I have no friends I could not dial for a hug, and because hugging yourself is a rather futile action I decided to lift my melancholy with some tea. I got some mint infused tea, to give me more of a spring in my step. And to really treat myself I got the orange and coconut combination which is as delicious as it sounds. The layout of Listons makes me happy, it's warm and the staff are helpful & when you are feeling under the weather you can never ever underestimate the power of a stranger's smile.

Bigger, well stocked and thriving, FX Buckley's on Moore street is one of the last old timers still open in this traditional green market street. Just off Henry street and taking up three huge shop fronts Buckley's is cornering the market on speciality, traditional and every day meats. There's rashers and loops of pudding, sides of beef and shoulders of lamb. Over the summer I was a religious weekly visitor, snapping up their chicken fillet deal of 10 for €9.99 (while steering well clear of that case of tripe, livers and hearts). Things can get busy during the day so expect to queue for a few minutes while the missus ahead of you gets her week's order of steak mince. As in any good butchers, the white-coated professionals here are happy to dispense a bit of butcherly advice on cooking your purchase or if it's right for the recipe you're planning on!
