This little place is one of the best kept secrets in the Riverbend area. I am almost, scared to tell people how good this place is, for fear of it being over crowded, but it already is always super busy when I have stopped for breakfast. The locals already know a good meal and value. For over a year, I'd pass this diner going to work and really never thought much of it. It sits way off the road in a inconspicuous little strip center. Now that I have moved over to the IL side, I thought I'd give them a try. I've only been twice for breakfast, but I can say each time I have been totally satisfied. My first visit, I ordered what they call, Daily Special. It's always on the menu, but it is a sampling of a lot of breakfast favorites. I had two eggs scrambled, bacon, Hash Browns and a Half Order of Biscuits and Gravy. This ole farm boy who became a city man and now has moved back to his roots, was in foodie heaven. It was all simply prepared, not overly salty which I feared. It was a plate full of true breakfast comfort foods. My second breakfast visit, I had planed to order a Bacon and Cheese Omelette. When I arrived and read the Daily Specials on the Wipe Board, they were offering a Meat Lovers Omelette. Why only have bacon, when you can also have ham and sausage with cheese in your omelette. It was a no brainer, I went with the Meat Lovers. When my server asked about my potato side, I thought since I had their Hash Browns the other day, I'd try the American Fries. Then she asked a question, I had never been asked at breakfast before. She wanted to know if I wanted them, Grilled or Deep Fried. I was taken back and asked what she meant by deep fried. When she described them, I knew them as Pub Chips. So I said, Deep Fried. Forget the diet, give me those Pub Chips for breakfast. My omelette had a perfectly light yellow tint to it. I hate it when they have those darker blotches through out. It was stuffed full of meat, so it did satisfy a meat lover. Then, there were those Deep Fried American Potatoes, aka Pub Chips. They were thinly sliced and crisp like a potato chip. I liked them, but man I kept thinking of them with a big burger at an Irish Pub. The coffee here is strong, the way I like it. I drink mine black, so it made my mornings. The servers are attentive and you can tell they remember their regulars. Heck, it was only my second visit and two of them commented, that I was back. I can assure, this place is going to be in my breakfast rotation and I will be checking them out for lunch and may-be a blue plate special for dinner. When: September 17 & 25, 2020 Why: Breakfast Will I return?: It added to my breakfast rotation in my new home state and hometown.

New Soul Patty veggie burger at Polly's. A must try

I had the new Soul Patty veggie burger. Was seriously the BEST veggie burger ever. Well built and tasty. Didn't want it to taste or look like meat. Was not disappointed! Try it.

It was one of those mornings and I had a craving for, Chicken Fried Steak. So I headed out of the house, to enjoy a nice breakfast at a diner. I hadn't been to B Town in a while, so even with the current gas prices, I made the drive to Bethalto. Their Chicken Fried Steak came with eggs, so I had mine scrambled. It also came with a choice of Hash Browns or American Fried Potatoes. I asked the waitress what her favorite was and she said, American. The American Fried are done totally in house. That sold me. It also came with toast, but I took a pass. They provided a steak knife with my breakfast, but it wasn't needed. The meat was tender and it was easy to break off a bite using just a fork. My eggs were fluffy and the potatoes were a good choice. So, always listen to your server. One thing I really like about B Town, is they do not overly season their food. I like the fact that I actually need to add more salt or pepper to my entree. I hate it when some places overly salt food. Good Food, Good Prices and Good Service will have me coming back for another breakfast. I might even come and check-out their lunch menu.

Do you love large breast? If so you need to visit Castelli's and have their fried chicken dinner…read more The breast they serve, are the largest I have ever seen and the accompanying pieces are impressive as well. Thick meaty thighs, curvaceous legs and wings that look as if the chicken has been pumping iron at the local gym. Big pieces, crispy flavorful coating and juicy meat. I primarily do carry-out and the quality of their take out is equally as good as when dining in the restaurant. Pick-up is smooth and fast, as they have a separate entrance and room for take-out. The staff is friendly and very professional. The service has that family owned business feel. If you're a fan of Onion Rings, I recommend enjoying an order as an appetizer. Their rings are super big and made in house. I do not like onion rings that come from a bag. When ordering my sides, I like mashed potatoes with white gravy. They also offer brown gravy, if that is your thing. My other side is always green beans. They make their green beans with bacon and onion. It reminds me of my momma's. With those two sides, it is a true Sunday Chicken Dinner on any day of the week. I've been coming to Castelli's my entire life. I started coming here as a child when it was called, Moonlight. Many of the locals still call it, Moonlight and no-one will correct them, because we all know where they are talking about. Service in the carry-out room is always speedy and friendly. So if you're a fan of fried chicken, I recommend ordering on-line for a pick-up. Or, treat yourself to a night out and dine in the restaurant. Remember to order the onion rings.

My recent visit I enjoyed the Pork Loin Sandwich. It was a typical pork tenderloin sandwich, extending beyond the bun. The one here is served grilled, not fried like the majority of other restaurants. The seasoning and glaze were full of flavor. It surprised me with how juicy and tender it was. If you're a fan of Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches, this is a must try. A previous visit I had one of the steak specials. I ordered the 16 oz Filet and giggled when it was served. I was given two 8 oz filets on my plate. I didn't care, it still was 16 oz. It actually worked out for me, I ate one and took the other home and had steak and eggs for breakfast the next day. For my two sides, I choose Baked Potato and Green Beans. Half of the potato went home and gave me American Fried Potatoes for breakfast. They have a good variety of beers on draft, bottled and canned. In addition, they offer a full bar for adult beverages. The service is hit or miss. It was obvious who was a regular by the attention and quality of service they received. They need to treat everyone the same, so the newer customers become repeat customers, too.
