When it comes to fast food- this place is a winner! We always order the family chicken meal with salad and rice- the chicken is deliciously seasoned and cooked. The salad is Caesar and also very good- fresh greens. The rice has some sort of seasoning but subtle and also delicious. We enjoy this for a fast, affordable, and healthy meal on the go! Oh and the sauces!! The curry mustard is amazing- as well as the salsa! The service is fine- nothing spectacular but they get the jobs done. The ambiance is a simple but clean restaurant with tables read more

Love the food but service is terrible. Both times came in to order and left standing there a long period of time. Cooks and preparer calling out for someone to tend the register. She is on her own time. Not good when my lunch time is valuable. read more

I don't normally review chain restaurants, but I have a special appreciation for Pollo Tropical (particularly this location in Tampa). I honestly feel that their food is always fresh and the quality is incredibly consistent. I typically order a family meal with a whole chicken, the regular white rice, dinner rolls, and black beans. I feel that the food is truly satisfying/filling for a family of 3-4. The portion size is very reasonable, and I believe that on Mondays they still have their $15 family meal deal which is unbeatable. I also am obsessed with their cilantro garlic sauce, and I think that their plantains are pretty solid. Overall, Pollo Tropical is somewhere that I typically get takeout from and it's delicious each and every time! read more

Pollo Tropical - Half chicken meal ($10) - Fast Food Near Me - Tampa, Florida

Always horrible customer service. It's like they are not happy working there. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad with extra dressing and good thing I checked my order before I left the drive thru. The salad has no dressing and they did not put the extra dressing on the side. I asked the guy at the window if the dressing is deducted from their paychecks??? NO COMMON SENSE.... read more

Plus every Pollo I have been to are loaded with Cubans..... So don't understand the disconnect. Split an entree with spouce. The chicken was a little dry but everything else good. Food is good but if you order for take-out, check your food before you leave. I've been ordering from them at least once a week for dinner for several months now. I purchase a whole chicken and a half chicken each time as I have big eaters in my home. Today I picked up my order and got only 1 breast piece in the container with the whole chicken, and none in the container with the 1/2 chicken (I asked for white and dark meat with my order). This in not right, and certainly not the first time this has happened. From now on, I will open the take-out bag and check before I leave. read more

Food was very bland, I was excited for Cuban spices and seasonings. Rice was overcooked. The avocado on my Avocado Cilantro TropiChop® seemed as though it had been previously frozen, the texture was strange. Everyone said the chicken was cooked very well. They forgot a few things on our order, we ordered like 5 different types of sauce and only got the garlic cilantro. I probably wouldn't go back because nothing was very tasty and the orders were wrong. read more

I just wanted some of the fried plantains they say OK, I go to the window pay for my meal and at the window after I'm handed part of my order I am told that they are out of plantains and if I would like some thing else. I said no I would like a refund, the person at the window didn't seem to understand that I wanted a refund and told me to pull around and that they would take care of it I pulled around to the front of the store and waited for 10 minutes and no one helped me so I decided to leave. I'm not sure what the issue was with the girl taking orders at the counter but I could tell by how she was speaking to the customers ahead of me that I was going to deal with some attitude. We went to the Pollo Tropical on Hillsboro Ave 30 minutes before closing. Just spent a whole day flying home and were starving. We both thought Taco Bell but said let's go and have a nice meal. We walked in and the restaurant was filthy! They closed down the dining room already, so we said we would eat in the car on the way home. The counters were filthy! Most of the food pans were empty and chicken piled 3 feet high on the back grill because they were cleaning the grills. We said we were starving, and we were already there so we went ahead and ordered. Biggest mistake ever!!! We got our bags of food and asked if we could get salsa. We were told they were out. The food was all cold and dried out. We should have gone to Taco Bell and gotten fresh food and would have been half the cost. read more

Hit and miss for us, this place. Went here on a recommendation from an acquaintance, who raved about the 1/2 chicken with two sides. Then we went for a late dinner and this is the rundown: - Balsamic tomatoes: juicy and flavourful, recommended. - Plantains: burnt. Looked and tasted like they had been sitting in the bay for a while. Not happy with these. - Red beans: decent enough. - Black beans and brown rice: decent, but barely warm. - 1/4 chicken: we had high hopes for their chicken, but it was dry, barely warm, and tough. Disappointing on this visit. - Sugarcane bread roll: dry and tough = waste of space. Now here's what we liked: - Friendly and helpful staff - Clean dining room and self-service sauce station: fun! Would we go back? Unlikely. read more

Stopped today to pick up lunch for me and a friend. Wanted to put this review on their web site on the receipt but not the proper info was on receipt to do that so thought to put it here. I got a Cuban and the 1/4 chicken dinner. Figuring early lunch chicken shouldn't be too dried out yet. Cuban was soggy but good. The chicken was so dried out was uneatable. Only ate the rice and beans and threw the rest away. Not even sauce could save it. Also got the key lime pie and new dessert of guava parfait. Both of those at least was good but they didn't have to do anything to them. Hadn't gone for quite some time. Guess it's going to be another long time again. So tired of over cooked chicken. read more

Went to the Hillsborough location today for lunch, the place was empty and all the employees were huddled in a corner talking . The place was dirty with the trash I s overflowing . I was going to take pictures and then decided against it . thought I would just never go back to this location, this isn't the first time they just stand around and do nothing . This place. Literal heaven. I got the chicken wrap, and my boyfriend got the 1/2 chicken. The only thing I could complain is the wrap was kinda small. But it was so delicious I didn't even care. DO NOT ORDER CATERING FROM HERE- Placed a near $200 order on their website from this Hillsborough location on 5/20/ Called and confirmed with the store on 5/25 and they had everything and would deliver on 5/26 at 11 am. This was for an important board meeting lunch for 15. I received a text on delivery day saying they would deliver at 11 am. Well that came and went and they have not answered there phone since 11:15 am when we started calling asking where it was. They picked their own 3rd party delivery service. Six hours later someone from customer service 800 number called me back to offer to refund my $200- GEE thanks- The store is still not answering there phone. DO NOT RELY ON THIS COMPANY FOR CATERING. Worst experience. All I saw was a bunch of dead chicken right in front of me. Considering the franchise's name, I shouldn't have been surprised. What tick me off was how the people working in the kitchen didn't have hairnets. It seems so unsanitary to me. The rice was bland and wasn't even filled up to the top. Let me not talk about the sweet plantains. If you have high blood pressure or some kind of stomach issues, I suggest you stay away from this plantains. The are lacking in costumer service too. I just want to add that people need to understand this is not to be compared to real Spanish food. Big disappointment. read more

Pollo Tropical - Fast Food Near Me - Tampa, Florida

A co-worker and I lunched here. Their specialty is cooking half chickens on an open flame grill. How that make it tropical is beyond me. It just tastes like grilled chicken and although one gets the impression that you will somehow experience a Caribbean type meal but nope. This place is more Mexican than anything else. I had the fajitas, not bad, the guacamole really helped. Co-worker got the Pulled Pork, looked ok, he liked it. Look, want a quick lunch that's better than burgers mystery meat tacos and fried yard bird? This is a good choice. Lots of people agree. About noon you could hardly get in the place. read more

bad. paid extra for delivery and they didnt provide the correct items or even include sauce. waste of money - not going back

The food was d-i-s-g-u-s-t-i-n-g The yuca was mushy, the pulled pork had 1 teaspoon of cold bbq with 1 teaspoon of coleslaw, the macaroni cold and stiff and the quesadilla was frozen. Completely nasty. Don't waste your money. The worst part was there was 15 people standing around yapping it up and the manager walking around doing nothing. This is the worst location. The one in Carrollwood is 10x better. We ate it and threw it up. Drank the flat soda just to get the taste out! read more

Rating for Hillsborough Avenue location ONLY. Pollo Tropical is my all time favorite "fast" food chain restaurant. I love that if offers tasty, healthy options. I used to visit it years ago when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, and was thrilled when they finally decided to give it (another) shot in the Tampa area. You'll notice that "fast" is in quotes, because unfortunately it depends on which location you visit. Last night I walked in, waited in line without moving, then walked out. It seems like this location on Hillsborough Avenue is always understaffed. I usually try to go to the location on Waters Avenue - they have a better grasp on how to keep people moving along. read more
