After a long afternoon of shopping, my friends and I built up and appetite. We wanted something quick that would calm our hunger for the drive home to RI. One of my friends was more familiar with the area and recommended we come here. She ordered a plate of fried pork with tostones, some guisado de res, and white rice. The total was around $20 which was fair for the portion sizes. The guisado was a bit oily but the flavor was really good and the meat was very tender. Since the tostones did not come with a sauce, we ended up dunking them in the guisado. The tostones were on the thicker side but crispy and tasty. The fried pork was good, although maybe a little bland. The lime helped a little bit with bringing out the flavor. The white rice was good. They offer a small, medium, and large portion - small was good as a snack for 3 people. I would come back and try more of their menu items. They have a parking lot, but it was packed and the snow didn't help. There is also street parking. It is in a lively part of town, so I enjoyed people watching while eating in the car. read more

This is a family owned Dominican restaurant that serves a variety of typical homestyle dishes. The space is pretty big. There's a large dining/ bar area and a takeout side with a few tables. We ordered the sancocho and rabo guisado (Oxtails), with white rice and plantains. The sancocho was pretty good. It had a lot of meat and vegetables, the white rice was perfectly cooked. I thought the sancocho had a bit too much garlic in the seasoning, but it was still great, especially since it was rainy and a bit chilly. The Oxtails were simply amazing! They were extremely tender and practically falling off the bone. The sauce was seasoned perfectly and paired well with the white rice. I've never had Oxtails this good at a restaurant. They tasted just like when mom recipe takes hours and hours to make since you want to cook it long enough for the meat to become tender. The service was very friendly and attentive, the food came pretty quickly. Prices were very reasonable. If I'm back in the area, I will definitely return and order the Oxtails. read more

The best part about this place is no matter what time of day it is the place is always packed with people. That tells you all you need to know. It's super delicious meal in Lawrence Massachusetts. The staff is super friendly and the only problem I had during this entire time was finding parking which doesn't have anything to do with the establishment. The chicken was amazing, it gave off the fall off the bone feel. Super delicious. The fried fish was also great when you sprinkle some lime on it. OK, so they have a menu now :) When I first ate there, there was no menu, and I obviously didn't get the protocol of not ordering at the counter and sitting in a booth. She then tells the driver where he needs to deliver too and he starts saying how it's too far and I need to be charged more money. So now delivery charge is based on what the driver wants? And on top of that I'm expected to give a tip? She then came back on the phone and told me a new price. This is ultimately the worst customer service I have ever received. The only reason why I'm giving this review one star is because I can't give it a negative five. I walk through the door with my girlfriend wearing the Star Wars shirt that she bought me for Christmas. Instantly I have a guy stop me and say I have Star Wars on dvd as he shows me a handful of discs of bootleg copies. I smile and say no thank you and walk to the start of the line. Time passes by and it's been about 5 minutes and we are standing right in front of the counter and the server is cluelessly looking at us occasionally as she swaps out different foods in the cafeteria style counter. After spending a few years in food service, when I have a customer standing in front of me waiting to order I know enough to ask them if they need any help. Eventually after feeling myself age a little bit, I finally ask if I can order. She points at a table and then I inform her that I am taking it to go. She points to another room in the back. Okay maybe this is where we go to order. Nope. I enter a bar where guys outnumber girls 8 to 1. We go back. One of the servers and her coworkers were speaking Spanish to one another. She finally understands that I need a plate to go. She takes another 5 minutes and then finally when she's done with whatever she was doing she grabs a plate. I order a plate of rice, I ask for some beef, and I get a piece of a rib. It really wasn't much and it was mostly rice. She hands me a slip to give to the cashier that says "$17.00" underlined twice. Ha. Annoyed with the price, whatever it is what it is. In line to pay, my girlfriend who is Dominican tells me that these people are rude. I find out that they've been saying that we look stupid for standing around. They laughed and said that we don't know Spanish. And kept babbling on in Spanish. It was like watching one of those Vietnamese nail salon skits where they just talk shit to each other. Everyone in there was clueless to what I was trying to do. I don't understand how you can be in business and not have someone that can understand and speak in English and laugh at them because they don't speak Spanish. After hearing this, I am enraged. I tell them that my girlfriend speaks perfect Spanish I am not paying for a meal that has been tainted. Never mind giving business to people that have insulted me to my face but to be overcharged as well? I am in total disbelief that an establishment like this actually gets business. I'm not from the area, and idk if this is the best latin food one could get around here, but this place is insanely overrated. I came here because I saw pics, latin food, and 5 stars on yelp. I inadvertently came in through the bar side which was like walking into a foreign country, and I'M HISPANIC! Loud as all hell Dominican music, presidente's, and dude's decked out in black leather trying to look tough and maybe there to pick up chicks of which there were barely any, so I don't get it. I didn't know the layout of this place was bar/hallway/restaurant so I had to ask a bartender twice, in spanish, just to have her point to the hallway. So, I finally get around to the food area, if you don't speak Spanish you're going to have a close to impossible time ordering here. I had to wait a good 15 mins just to order, and I was 2nd in line. I didn't see any menu's, and ordering was a bit of a barrier with a server that had no patience. It inevitably turned into me pointing at food and trying to decipher how to tell this woman I wanted enough food for two people. I think they do it by weight here, so be prepared to try and figure out how many ounces of pork rinds you want. So far, I'm hating this experience, but I was so hungry, and parking was such a pain, that I just said screw it and did my best to order food and get the hell out. On to the food; pork rinds were probably the best, but it's hard to mess that up. Rice was well done, but again, not hard. The plantains "maduros" were so dry I didn't eat them, even though I ended up with like half a pound of them. The fried chicken tasted like KFC, also greasy. The pork was ok, kind of dry too. The food itself is stellar. I've never had Dominican before, or at least I don't know that I've had it, but this was awesome. The ordering was a little strange for two white folks like ourselves. We came in on a Sunday night around 8pm. Apparently there is a dance/club/party that happens in the evenings. It was loud, we could barely hear ourselves speak, and the servers seem to speak very little English. So we ended up pointing at things. My wife got the rotisserie chicken, rice, beans, and some fried plantains. The chicken was juicy, wonderfully spiced, and we got a ton of it. Beans were also great and flavorful. Plantains we loved, although I wish I had gotten more. I know to ask for the larger size next time! They also gave us what i think were fried sweet potatoes (correction, yuca root), and they too were delicious. We were also given a ton of white rice. It would have been enough for five people easy. Crazy portions there. I decided to get what I think were chicharonnes. It was fried pork belly and some rib section. You guessed it, delicious. There are so many things in the menu, in definitely going to try them all. Don't feel bashful if you're a white boy like me. The food is good enough to overcome that. Such great and fresh food! With Lawrence getting a bad rep from crime, people should check this place out! For it being a place that's always busy, they make sure to get you in and out without waiting too long. For family parties and events we always get rice and beans of meats from here without hesitation on how quickly a big order is made and how AFFORDABLE! The Rice and beans are always my favorite, but dishes like tripleta, Mangu, and Mofongo are always exciting too. I am a Puerto Rican recently moved to the area from Boston and when I found Pollo Tipico, it was like winning the lottery. If you aren't familiar with Caribbean Food or don't speak Spanish, this place is intimidating. I could only find a Spanish menu, and the menu isn't all that clear as to what you are going to get with your order (does it come with Maduros? or rice and beans? I'm still not sure...) but I loved the food that I got. We got Steak with Onions (bistec encebollado) with white rice and pink beans, and Oxtail stew (Rabo) with rice and pigeon peas (arroz con gandules). It came to $23. The portions of steak, Rabo, and rice with gandules were huge, but I got a tiny amount of pink beans and would have wanted more given how amazing they were. We also got a huge portion of maduros (sweet plantains). I will be back for more! read more

Order from this place for years!!! Today I order ten chicken pastelitos and they bring me beef. So I called them back to let them know that they placed the order wrong order. The same girl answers the phone by stating that "oh yes you ordered beef" and I replied by letting her know that "no I don't eat beef" so then she replied by saying "we could send you 10 more chicken but we will have to charge you for them". I replied by telling them "why should I have to pay for your mistake?" She never owned up to her mistake and kept hanging up on me. So now I learned not to order from them again. Take out for the whole family usually consists of arroz con gandules, bistec encebollado, pollo guisado, avichuellas and pastelitos. Terrible delivery driver and the girl who answers the phone needs to learn how to take orders. Service was always lacking but today it was the worst it has ever been. They missed an order of rice which I paid for when my food was delivered. We called the restaurant and noone knows what we are talking about. I had a big party and people are waiting to eat. The driver asks what do I want him to do? I say deliver my rice I paid for it. We have all this meat and little rice.
