Great friendly staff and lovely dentistry work. They did great work for both myself and my child. Family definitely belongs in the name.

This is, by far, the best dentist I've ever heard about. I can't say I've gone to a ton of…read moredentists, but from start to finish, Overman Family Dentistry made my stay as hassle-free and as pain-free as possible. In fact, I'd actually go as far as to say that their dentist and service made dental work nearly enjoyable. When it comes to the stereotype of the "scary, painful dentist", they've done everything possible to avoid that. For one, setting up an appointment is simple. You should definitely call ahead of what you want since appointments do fill up (like most dentists). Mine was set 3 weeks in the future. The week before my appointment, I received a text reminding me about the appointment. The day before, I received another text. I appreciate the non-obtrusive texts that remind me of my appointment. The building itself is fantastic. It's over by Biolife and K-mart, so if you know where those are, you'll be good. The interior is well-done. Like, insanely. They have a children's playroom to help entertain the kids, and the adult waiting room is really well-furnished and includes a television. (Was playing the Cooking Channel when I got there) Finished up some paperwork for my first appointment, and I was into the appointment itself 5 minutes AHEAD of my appointment time. Uh, how often does that happen!? The dentist (Dr. Overman) is extremely friendly. As-in, he's not judgmental or rude during your entire visit. Nothing feels hurried or like you're just another number. The dentist explained various options for me including costs as well as what we should do after this initial appointment. When it came to the dental work itself, both the dentist and the assistant were fantastic. If I mentioned something hurt or made a wince, they checked in with me, and when applicable, would add more numbing agent to the area and wait and talk with me while it took affect. At no point would I ever say there was "pain". Not once. If there ever was, the dentist took care of it promptly and didn't start doing anything again until more numbing agent was put on. Seriously, the dentist and his assistants know what they're doing. I chose to listen to music during my dental work, but if you prefer something else, they have movable televisions with DirectTV. They can position the TVs right above your head to watch while you're having work done. I actually heard children GIGGLING during their dental work - normally you hear crying. Seriously, this has to be one of the best dentists in the area. I'm glad he's opened his own practice, and I'll be coming back again. (As a note, when giving me aftercare instructions since it was Friday, he gave me his personal cell number to call in case there were any issues and the office wasn't open. That's how awesome this dentist is.) (As a tip, if you get the local free Ames weekly newspaper, Overman Dentistry has been including coupons for $50 off your first visit in those little "Coupon Booklets" that are sometimes included)

Plus I really like how the management handles the staff, every morning I am told they have positivity meeting to get everyone in a good mood for the day. This makes it so the staff likes working there and it shows with the passion they put into their work!! Would definitely recommend.

Well, that wasn't the case at all. I was walking out on my second appointment (out of three that I needed for a mouth guard). As I checked out, the receptionist informed me that I owed around $200 for my last two appointments, one being from when I was in high school and wasn't even paying my own dental bills. No one quoted me anything at those appointments. Wouldn't that send the message that I don't owe anything because of my insurance? I sat and cried in my car afterwards because I'm a college student and don't have extra to spend. I called to ask about it before my third appointment because I have not been quoted anything for my mouth guard at this point. The people in the office couldn't tell me what my bill was because there is only one person that can do that and they weren't in. Upon finally getting my mouth guard, I now owe around $500 and again, was not told how much it would cost in advance. Isn't that important to tell a patient before getting something done? I'm disappointed because they have always been great as a dental office. But, now I almost feel cheated for the lack of communication about what appointments and procedures cost and what will and won't come out of my insurance.
