The BLT was well prepared but the fries weren't crispy, which was disappointing. Our server was very attentive and the ambiance was wonderful. The star of the show here is the view of the water.

The Buffalo Yacht Club is at the foot of Porter Avenue, just before you'd cross the Peace Bridge into Canada. We had a family dinner and lunch the next day while overlooking the harbor and waterway that divides Canada from the US. Yes, that bank of land? That's Canada right there. I giggle because growing up in Buffalo, many of us never thought of Canada as a foreign country; we thought of it as "the next town over." In these times, the club is a little short-staffed; that just gave us more time to mix and mingle and enjoy the view. One of the oldest yacht clubs in the country, founded when Lincoln was President, pretty cool.

Every room had carving stations and buffet lines, some rooms had shrimp cocktail and hors d'oeuvres. After a day of mourning the Buffalo Club sure did know how to cheer everyone up and celebrate a life that will be sadly missed!

The whole first floor and courtyard are set up with beer, wine and a few hard liquor choices. There are tastings in each of the three rooms and the courtyard. Some of the tastings are: bruschetta with assorted toppings, Bavarian pretzels with a cheese sauce, a smoked turkey wrap, 4 different wood fired pizzas,macaroni and cheese, several cheese platters, a really beautiful dessert table with mini fruit tarts and chocolate eclairs, Mexican street corn, mini cupcakes, jerk chicken bites, empanadas. Of course the most important part of the evening was hearing an inspirational story from a 17 year survivor and her battle.

Anyway, a chilly, windy day was perfect for enjoying their hearty chili, and it was hearty! The squash was so tasty with cranberries and pecans: a creative and successful combination. Beans were good, too not too spicy or too sweet. I was too full to enjoy my oatmeal butterscotch cookie, so I brought it home with me and enjoyed it later; clearly not a store-bought cookie. I appreciated that I could choose how much I wanted, both to eat and to pay. Signing up to volunteer was easy through the online portal and I could tell that I was helping with what needed to get done. The location is accessible - by bike, car, walking, and bus (route 3, Grant) - and the inside is warm and welcoming. Will definitely come back when I am free for lunch during the week!
