Someone mentioned that the staff is rude and they were escorted out by a manager, and I hate to tell you that's not true, lol. They might've had a bad experience or beef with one employee but every staff member here is very personable, polite and accommodating. They remembered my face the second time I went and even though there was no one at the skate rental window, when I found an employee they let me try a couple pairs before going out on the ice. The skates could definitely be in better condition and the ice was rough one of the days but if you go often enough that's why you buy your own pair and have patience while they refresh the ice after sessions. I have zero complains with this business and hope they stay in town for a long time!! read more

It's good most of the times, workers are rude. Manager escorted out for no reason, and wouldn't tell us what we were doing. Manager is crazy rude and has major attitude. read more

Polar Ice - Charity Hockey Game - Sporting Goods Near Me - Wilmington, North Carolina

This was my first time at Wilmington ice house. I went for a 7year olds birthday party. The check out line was out the door when we attended on a Saturday but it went by quickly. We had a lot of fun but there was a ton of people present and it was very crowded and felt a little overwhelming. The majority of the population was young children and their parents. The number party had food but it was all frozen and the seating area needs major updating. The party hosts were amazing and continued to check on the party to see if we needed anything and do drink refills. This is a great place for birthday parties! read more

I grew up taking figure skating lessons and competing but hadn't skated in 15+ years until this past weekend. My hometown had two arenas in it so it's been odd having so few in this part of the world. I was a little nervous going to Ice House, but excited to put on skates. A few cons, despite the 5 stars: ~ Their website says, "Masks are recommended for everyone; Especially for those that are not vaccinated." When we arrived, we were told we were fine without masks. COVID is not over and I feel like consistent messaging is important. ~Their rental skates are, for the most part, in pretty rough shape with visible tears. All that said, customer service was *awesome* overall and that earns 5 stars from me. I put on my first pair of skates, anxiously got on the ice, and realized my skate blades has no edges. Like I could only skid around in them and not stop. I decided to be a diva and ask if there was any chance of getting them sharpened. I explained that I'm a former skater and knew I was being a pain. The guy said the person who could sharpen had stepped away but that he'd find a sharper pair. Well, turns out none of them in my size were sharp, but he gave me a new pair that was a bit better and off I went, gripping the sides of the rink. About 10 minutes later, he came to the edge of the rink to find me and said, "We'll have a new pair for you in 5 minutes." WOW! New pair did the trick - once I had them on I could stop having a death grip on the edge and enjoy myself and felt pretty comfortable. I wasn't doing double-axels, but at least I was skating! Haha. Most importantly, they didn't make me feel like a difficult customer for asking for some extras. They were clear that they can't always accommodate, so your mileage may vary if you're also a diva. I'm excited to go back another time and in a region where ice rinks aren't super common, I'm thrilled to have this here. read more

This was my first time going skating in Wilmington and I think this is the only place. It was a lot of fun but it's wildly busy and very difficult to skate around without running into people. The staff is super nice though and overall a good time!! read more

The man checking people in was not nice at all. We walked in not really knowing how everything works or the prices and he talked to us like we were stupid. First impressions matter and he did not make me want to come back. read more

Best ice rink in Eastern NC. Yeah, not a whole lot of rinks around, but at less than 10 years old, the Wilmington Ice House still has that 'new rink' feel. Rental skates are quality, and the staff all know their stuff. The pro shop has a full line of gear, and even though they are the only shop in town, the prices are competitive with online sales sites. Kids Hockey, adult hockey from beginner to A/B leagues, and everyone in between, and now Curling! You can do kids parties during public skate, and you can even rent the ice for private parties. Too hot for you in July? Go to the Ice House! read more

THIS PLACE IS TOO COLD!! Haha jk. But really. It is freezing. But I understand why...... But it's actually a pretty nice rink. My husband plays hockey. So it's nice to watch him. They have a nice size snack bar. And kids can have their birthday parties there! They have ice skating days where you can skate in the dark and they have all these rainbow lights. It looks like a lot of fun. I just need to learn how to skate....... read more

I've been here many times growing up, my husband even worked here for a little while in high school. Regardless it's a great rink, always cold and always clean. Prices are fair for everything, and everyone is really nice. I like skating the only time its hard to is when kids are out of school, avoid going during the summer. I also like that they have other activities outside of regular skating. read more

Dress accordingly, this place is freezing! I came by Sunday night to check out a local hockey game and support a local Yelper who was playing. It's free to watch and there was plenty of people pregaming in the parking lot. The game was lots of fun to watch and I can't wait to go back for public skate hours to try out my skills on the ice. On the way out, I decided to check out the pro shop out of curiosity. The gentlemen working was super nice and very informative about how to get started playing hockey. read more

4 points of contact and no help. Put on hold for 10 minutes and forgotten about. They aren't helpful, I just got passed off to someone else each time. The first 2 times I have them the benefit of the doubt, 2 more times and I chalk it up to that's how they do business. read more

Great rink! Kind employees including the skate coaches and cheap prices. They could use public morning skate though.
