They claimed the room was unrentable after we had left the property, see the attached "evidence" of the mess we left! We had some food when we checked in, used the bathroom, and left as soon as we saw the BED BUGS! My only regret is not taking photos of the bedbugs. ZERO STARS, and TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

While it is, post-COVID, technically just a "B" (not serving breakfast at this time), our host was attentive and gracious and offered to provide dishes and flatware to support the charcuterie dinner (Church & State winery created a custom takeout for us with no advanced notice.) we were having on the mini-patio in front of our room overlooking the bay (glassware and corkscrew already provided). As we enjoyed our meal we were treated to visits by humming birds and a young fawn and doe. Walking distance to Butchart Gardens and easy driving to several good dinner spots.

The host is very friendly, involved (not the type that "leaves you a key"). She definitely goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and meet your needs. However, if you are looking for privacy, do not book the Harbour Suite. Although the website says the deck is private, it's, in fact, the opposite. The main window doesn't have curtains and the deck for the entire house is RIGHT off the suite. We were getting dressed and people are cruising by for breakfast. The cottages seem private though. This is the kind of B&B for people who like meeting others. The breakfast was served, very slowly, at a big table with 10 others. So, just keep that in mind (:

If you want to stay in a beautiful, quiet cabin with plush beds, spend your nights in a secluded hot tub overlooking the cove and be fawned over by a loving homeowner like visiting family, this is the place for you. Chris, the owner, REALLY WILL LOVE YOU TO DEATH aha. this woman welcomes you into her home, either in the main house or the cabins, and i can see that being invasive for some people. that is something that must be made clear as while entirely loveable and darling, if you are a more reserved/cold/private person, you may feel a little offput. you may want a more hotel atmosphere. But this woman, in her mothering, really enhanced my stay. I'd forgotten little things (sensible shoes, being one) and she managed to outfit me entirely in waterproof gear, clearly excited to be useful. At one point, she jumped the gun on us and went ahead and booked a Zipline experience at the near by Adrenaline Zipline. While blindsided, we had been procrastinating, frankly, and that ended up being the highlight of the trip. So yes, Chris is a very involved presence, and I'm sure that's not for everyone. She does respect boundaries of course, but gets carried away like a mother would. I'm sure she'd have taken dirt off my cheek if the chance arrived. She'd give you the clothes of her back if you needed it. The breakfasts are great and she stresses to keep them different every day, as well as providing a wide array of daily trimmings like fruit salads, granola, cinnamon buns to pick at. She starts cooking when you enter the room regardless of when you said you'd like breakfast, so if you want to start your day early, make sure she understands the time constraint. The cabins are neat as a pin, the beds are large and far to comfortable if you plan to be at all productive and have patios overlooking the gorgeous cove. Seals and rabbits made plenty of appearances. The other guests caught salmon nearby, and we had a barbecue and had a night filled with beer, wine and laughter. making friends was unexpected, but Moonlit Cove has this way of making everyone feel at ease. Chris acts like she's known you for years, and you leave feeling the same. Would definitely return.

The bathrooms are small and dark. These issues are not disclosed anywhere, in fact we only found out from another guest that breakfast was not included. It is a gorgeous setting and very clean, but I definitely felt swindled.

The rooms were nicely decorated and clean and there was a fun living room with tons of games, movies, books and things to do inside, but the best was outside. There was a fire pit just steps from the ocean as well as a hot tub with an ocean view. The kitchen was fully stocked even with a spice rack so we could cook things while we were there. We had a very affordable small-ish room with an ocean view and it was so perfect waking up listening to the sounds of the ocean. The town itself is small and rural, mostly a farm town, but the people are all very friendly and there is a great pizza place and restaurant down the street. Metchosin is about 35-40 minutes from downtown Victoria so having a car (rental or bring your own on the Ferry) is probably a good idea. The owner of the lodge is a wonderful lady named Marg who is friendly, funny, helpful and full of interesting stories. She also teaches yoga and does massage there upon request. It would be a great place to go for a retreat too for a group of people. The two of us actually had the place pretty much to ourselves because the other people who were supposed to come missed their ferry over so it was certainly an added bonus to have that much space and privacy. There is free WiFi and a phone you can use too, which comes in handy when you are coming from another country like we were and had no use of our cell phones there. We would definitely go back and we plan on it!

We stayed at SookePoint Ocean Cottages for 4 nights. The ocean views are truly stunning - but…read morethat's where the positives end. Please don't be misled by the words "luxury" and "resort" in the property's name. It is neither luxurious nor resort like. CONSTRUCTION: The property currently feels like an active jobsite. I'm a construction project manager and spend my days on jobsites, so I'm not sensitive to construction - but this site is managed poorly for a hospitality environment. Guests walk and drive through dirt, dust, equipment, and partially fenced areas, and the "reception" is a small, dirty jobsite trailer. Noise wasn't a problem, but the overall environment was not guest ready. CHECK-IN: Check in is limited to a single one-hour window (4-5pm), which created a long line in a cramped trailer with no privacy. The staff member was kind, but the process was uncomfortable and inefficient. UNIT CONDITION (46A): As you read other reviews, please note that some units are new, and some are 10 - 12 years old. We were in an old "ocean view" unit, which was worn and overdue for a refresh: stained and worn carpet, damaged and stained furniture, loose trim, missing shower caulking, a soft shower pan, nonfunctional lamps, a fireplace missing its glass cover, and sliding doors that were broken or extremely difficult to operate. Windows also needed cleaning - and when you're there for the view but have to look through dirty glass, it defeats the purpose. PROVISIONS: Supplies were minimal. Only one dishwasher pod was provided for a four-night stay (even though we are required to run the dishwasher upon leaving), and towel quantities were extremely limited. For two people, we received: two bath towels, one hand towel, one washcloth, one kitchen towel, and one kitchen washrag. We had to wash towels mid stay. Additionally, guests are asked to take out their own trash, which is not typical of a property described as a "luxury resort." LOCATION: SookePoint Cottages are at least a 30-minute drive from Sooke along a narrow, winding road. This makes every outing time consuming. The location is inconvenient unless you plan to stay onsite most of the time. Once you leave for the day, you're unlikely to return for lunch or a break and then head out again. Sooke and the surrounding area are beautiful - do yourself a favor and stay in Sooke proper, not out in East Sooke. UNEXPECTED CHARGE: After checkout, I received a charge for a "steak knife," which we did not use or remove. I contacted the resort directly and was told that we had broken the knife. This was an unpleasant final impression.
