Upon arriving of course I had forgotten all of this and insisted to the park rangers at the gate that they had the wrong info. They graciously and kindly accommodated me regardless. Then the fun started as I realized not only were they right but I also insisted on the lesser enjoyable site. Hat in hand I had to return to the gate and 'splained myself. Enter Alexa. With charm, deference, humor and all around good vibes she settled the whole affair and made everything right. Good people need to be recognized. Alexa is def one of them.

Awesome to walk down to the beach at night from our camping spot and explore the tide pools at low tide as more creatures are out and about. It can get crowded as it is a popular stop for some summer camp groups or scouts that will visit by the bus load. Otherwise, it's usually pretty chill. Often there are a handful of surfers too and one time my brother-in-law saw Jason Momoa there watching the waves from the shore.

I packed all my motorcycle camping gear into a giant duffel bag and checked it on an airplane. The campground was great. The camp store wasn't open when we were there but that wasn't a problem. We drove to a grocery store in Thousand Oaks and got some food, firewood, and lighter fluid. We stayed 2 nights and it was wonderful. We can't wait to come back and bring the husbands!

It turned out to be a great spot with large trees providing plenty of shade. The site is centrally located, so you share your backyard with others, yet it's spacious enough to maintain privacy. One downside is that people tend to cut through the site to get to the restroom, which is just a few yards away. If you're staying here, I recommend bringing a bike or skateboard for your trek to the restroom/showers and beach. One of my favorite campgrounds near the beach and close to home. It's peaceful and scenic, but keep in mind that it's near Mulholland Drive, so Sunday mornings can get noisy with motorcycles and cars roaring through the canyons. One more thing! I don't think this campground has any raccoons or any wildlife besides birds, well from the few times I've stayed here. The only wildlife we had to deal with were the kids.

No place to throw trash away. Had to take it with you. You pretty much need to have an RV to enjoy this place. Too windy for tent camping. Because of the bend of California, this beach is extremely windy. You better have 4 people to help put up a tent, otherwise it will blow away. Also makes swimming unpleasant in the afternoon and evening, it's just too windy. Absolutely zero shade. No trees or covered areas. Would NOT recommend for non RV campers or for families with kids. Waves, wind, and current too strong.

There's something about being right by the ocean that instantly slows everything down! The sound of the waves, the open sky, and just being able to step away from everything for a bit. The campsites are right along the beach, which makes the whole experience feel really unique. Waking up and seeing and hearing the ocean just steps away was one of my favorite parts. There's a good amount of space between sites, so you don't feel like you're on top of other campers, which we really appreciated. It also felt very safe. State park rangers were patrolling about every hour during the weekend, and we noticed highway patrol driving through a handful of times throughout the day, which added an extra level of comfort. A few helpful things to know: check in is at 2 PM and checkout is at 12 PM. The camp host sells firewood on site, which is super convenient. The gates close at 8 PM, so if you leave the campground, make sure you're back before then you can leave anytime, but you won't be able to re enter after closing. It can get a bit windy, especially at night, and the highway nearby does get a little noisy in the morning, but it's manageable and didn't take away from the overall experience for us. The bathrooms are porta potties, but they were cleaned often and didn't smell bad, which we appreciated. We spent our time walking along the shoreline, watching the sunset (which is absolutely killer here), and just enjoying a slower pace together. It felt like one of those trips where the little moments meant the most. Overall, this campground made my birthday feel extra special, and it's definitely a spot we'd come back to for another quiet coastal escape. All in all really nice camp host John and his dog Max is absolutely lovely. The sites are clean and neat. The bathrooms and showers are really clean. Tokens for the showers can be obtained from the machine and the machine only takes single dollar bills. Be sure to have singles if you want to shower.
