Love this beach camping spot, especially if you have an rv. The best part is that you parallel park! No campers on either side of you and you walk out directly on the sand. There are no amenities except a picnic table and a fire pit. It's like boondocking. Beach was rocky so not great for getting in the water. Lots of dolphins and sea birds. I love it there. read more

Used to love camping here. It's been many years since the prior visit, so the conditions have changed tremendously and I found myself uncomfortable with the noises from PCH and the traffic through the campsite overnight. I miss the full rock beach and the quieter sounds of the waves. Definitely a better stay if you have a camper or van to sleep in. Tent camping is not ideal. Give it a try with the right equipment and see what you think. read more

This review is for TENT CAMPING. This spot is really meant for RV camping. The bathrooms were disgusting. Porta potties we're almost FULL. They needed to be emptied and weren't the days I was there, (July 2023). The water stations were gross. Highway was loud. All of the trash cans were full. No place to throw trash away. Had to take it with you. You pretty much need to have an RV to enjoy this place. Too windy for tent camping. Because of the bend of California, this beach is extremely windy. You better have 4 people to help put up a tent, otherwise it will blow away. Also makes swimming unpleasant in the afternoon and evening, it's just too windy. Absolutely zero shade. No trees or covered areas. Would NOT recommend for non RV campers or for families with young kids. Waves, wind, and current too strong. read more

We were fortunate enough to be able to camp out here for a quick Veteran's day vaca. It was absolutely beautiful. We had our very own private beach. Kiddos and fur babies had fun running back and forth. Be careful by the water the waves are pretty strong and there were rocks everywhere. Lost 1 ball to Aquaman when our collie tried to rinse it off in the water. We'll definitely be back :) read more

Got there early enough before they opened up. There was a available spot online. I was first in line once they opened up the gate and got to the booth a guy rolled up in a bicycle and then the Ranger came out and told me there was nothing available but then again the guy with the bike cut in front of me and look just like one of the Rangers brothers and he took his wallet he was paying for something and I told him what's going on there and he told me nothing the computer shut down, so why is it paying for something if everything shut down bunch of crooks.the whole time he's telling me that he had a grin in his face. Despite it being a primitive campsite with no showers or flush toilets, we love that these sites are beach front property with amazing views! A lot of RVs park here, but everyone pretty much keeps to themselves. The restrooms dont smell as bad as most, and the water spouts are fairly close by. We brought a camp shower and water guns to rinse/cool off since the surf is a bit too rough to go swimming. I've always had a great experience the past maybe 4 years I've been here. The cars and waves can be a bit loud at night, but my 2 year old son slept so well, even better than when we're at home, so that was great! As long as there's no fog or marine layer at night, we've seen some pretty amazing sunsets and stargazing here!! Looking forward to our next visit :) read more

This spot is great for lazing about and wading in the water right near the shoreline. Go out further and it has some small rocks underwater and the ocean floor drops off a little bit, which could be dangerous for kids. This may not be true all over, but it was for the one spot we hung out in. I didn't camp out as some others do; only a day visit. Parking wasn't bad right on PCH. The scenery makes for some great pictures. I think the public did well with social distancing the day I was there, which was a Sunday afternoon at the tail end of July during COVID-19. I would recommend for kids who will be wading near the shore or a group of adults just looking to splash about a bit and hang on the beach. I will have to stop by again and set up in a different spot to know if the rocks are all over or not. read more

Gorgeous clean beach. If you have a large group the host is very lenient on parking. A group next to us had 6 cars to one site. Down side if you're just hanging with your family you may have a rowdy bunch next to you. There is noise from PCH however after 9 it's very minimal. Hiking spots right behind the camp sites on the other side of PCH. There are ONLY porter potties (NO SHOWERS) however , they were decent and mostly clean with minimal smell. Only spigots for water which were few and far between. The beach is definitely a 5 gorgeous clean we even seen dolphins and seals. For noise (both campers and cars) no showers as a camping facility i give it a 3 read more

It was my first time camping on the beach and this place was almost perfect. I only left out one star because I think they should really make a permanent bathroom building with flushing toilets at least and a sink to wash hands. The porta potty is just uncomfortable and you have to wash your hands at a spigot. Other than that though it's a beautiful location! The workers are really nice and they gave us spot 60 which worked really well since we were right by a spigot and the porta potty, no long distance walking! :) it costs like $30 a night and your spot comes with a grill and a picnic table. It can get really windy so put rocks inside on the corners of your tent as you set up and I even tied the tent strings down with huge rocks too and that held up really great against the wind! You also have to put giant rocks inside the grills they have so it protects the flame from the wind and that allows the flames to cook whatever you want to cook. My partner & I came pretty prepared and we even brought our 4 yr old son, it was wonderful and relaxing. The sound of the waves really help you fall asleep and the beach is beautiful with the waves coming out pretty far so it's great for kids to wet their feet. We'll definitely be coming back again! We only had one problem when some punk teens came in to burn some trash at a grill next to us, this was really pissing us off because it wasn't even wood, we smelled plastic and it filled our tent with my 4yr old sleeping there I got mad that these teens would be so careless, my bf went to get a worker and the teens ran off. That's another thing I liked, the workers are always there so if any problem occurs they come out and help! It's a really nice place I recommend it! :) read more

This place is a dream come true for beach camping beginners, such as moi. There is a lot of what you expect in a beach campsite: sand, water (clean by the way), fire pits, a beautiful view, and then some. There is also some of what you (I did not anyways) might not expect: a hiking and biking trail, tables, being up-so-close to the ocean, and then some. And lastly, some of what you wish for: water activities, space, more time, and then some. Check-in is around 2pm, while check-out is around 11am. Prices are cheap and includes parking (i.e. less than $50 a night). After several years of wishing to beach camp, I am super glad that this is the 1st site I went to. read more

I reserved six months in advance, checked in at 3, was surprised I got preassigned a campsite, I thought I would get to choose my own but it worked out well. I found if we parked our cars vertically we had room for six cars, mostly compact and intermediate size. I was worried about it being cold and windy in the beach in a tent at night. Indeed it was windy and the sand couldn't hold the stakes against the wind, so with the help of neighbors we figured you can "stake" the tent bottom with rocks along the inside, then pile rocks on top of the stakes on the outside. That worked, but the wind ruffled it constantly we got used to it as we slept. We brought warm clothes layers to sleep in and a warm blanket so we were ok. Just be prepared. We bought fire wood easily from the camp host at 7$ a bundle. We were one person over the limit for our campsite but no one hassled us. I noticed lots of empty campsites which confused me since it's so hard to book this place, I tried to get an extra site but was weirdly told it was completely booked by the ranger guy on site.. that why I'm only giving 4 stars. It was great to be right there with the ocean tho. Rare for a campsite in SoCal. read more

This was my first experience camping on the beach. Its mid April and the weather was perfect. The pros greatly outweighed the cons... Pros: Gorgeous beach, alot of rocks but they beautiful and manageable Kid safe Great campers(really good people) Easy access Availability Firepit/table Dogs allowed 20 minutes to any store/restaurants Cons: READ 1. You can't buy firewood here until 4pm. However Check in is at 11am and you are NOT allowed to go find wood on the beach. 2. Porta potties 3. Rangers/workers attitudes. One word, "Hospitality". 4. Pricey-$35 for a campsite and 1 car, then $12 per each additional car. 3 car Max. I am already planning my return, we had a fantastic time. This trip exceeded our expectations. read more

My family and I have been camping here for years and it is the only place my dad will get a beach reservation. I mean, it does not get better than camping on the sand. They are very lenient when it comes to bringing people there. Usually the parents will sleep in our RV and all of the cousins will build a tent and sleep on the sand. PCH is right behind us but the noise isn't too loud and you tune it out. My only only complaint is that there are tons of rocks. Very easy to trip over one and you can't go down to water, you would have to go to the end of the campground where the water finally opens. read more

Beware of the this campsite. The rangers will double book you because they're a bunch of incompetent, angry, miserable people. They'll sell your campsite to another person and will not refund you or admit to their mistakes. They like to act like they have rules but they don't follow any of them. When they say they're book they are really saving spots for their friends and for themselves. I used to camp here all the time for years. It's such a shame. read more
