    Bed bug bites on face

I was really excited to try Podshare for my visit to San Diego over Christmas to see my newborn grandson and family. However, my stay turned into a disgusting nightmare. First, the Instant Pot in the kitchen was filled with grease and what looked like larvae and the stove did not work. I was cold the first night, as they only put a thin small blanket on the bed that only goes above the belly. I got scolded for getting up in the night to take a couple extra blankets. The toilet had the smell of urine and there was no ventilation in the bathroom. I got scolded for using a fan that was on the wall and told that "it wasn't supposed to be there." I never saw dedicated cleaners or anyone doing detailed cleaning there, only the man at the desk doing laundry, trash and some wiping up. Then, the worst part... I got little bites on my arms and neck starting the first night. I thought they were mosquitoes since the large windows had no screens and I saw flying bugs inside. But the bites kept happening, even when I hid under the sheets. Then another guest told me that the woman in the pod next to me had had bedbugs in her pod recently. ICK! I got totally freaked out and told the desk man. He offered to let me try another bed. But THAT bed was even WORSE!! I got eaten alive on my arms, face and neck. Disgusting. Bed bugs jump, which means all of my things could now be infested. But where to go? There was no place to go with bedbugs! Instead of being treated kindly, they threw me out immediately and offered a refund for the remaining nights if I left by 12:30! It was already 11am by the time I figured out what was going on. I had not yet showered or eaten breakfast. My things were not packed. I was in shock and completely distraught to realize I and my things were now infected by bedbugs. I could not stay with my family b/c it could infect their home. I had moved out of my home in Sedona, AZ with the intent to relocate to San Diego. I had no choice but to cut my Christmas and time with family to drive back to Sedona in crisis. The owner was completely unsympathetic and tried to make it seem like I had brought them! But I had come straight from my home and knew that the Podshare already had an infestation. SHE KNEW she had an infestation b/c the woman said she came to steam her bed. I asked for a total refund, but the manager never fully refunded me and it cost me a lot of time, money and aggravation. I could not even hug my son goodbye but packed up in haste and drove immediately back to AZ that day. Thankfully, friends there had an isolated room where I could sort through all my things and gradually sanitize and heat treat them. My car had to be totally disinfected. Absolutely unbelievable!! It was the worst stay ever, any where.

Decent experience overall. Our primary concerns are bedbugs and privacy. Based on other reviews, it looks like they've had a problem with bedbugs for over a year now. We probably wouldn't have stayed with PodShare had we known this before hand. Although we didn't see any bedbugs during our stay, we did notice dozens of bed bug bites along our bodies a couple days after leaving. That's when we checked other reviews and noticed this reoccurring bedbug problem. Additionally, the beds do not have curtains, making it hard to have moments of privacy during our stay. Just a thought for anyone planning to stay with PodShare San Diego in the future.

Here is the cancellation I provided.

they reached out after i posted a review and told me they didn't have my funds that's why they could not refund me. i provided picture proof and they ignored it. They are just crooks Stay Away

Solid location and staff! My roomies are awesome individuals too. I'm very blessed to come to such a sweet location!

Captured bug from my bed. Didn't stay around to find more. There is never just one.

I contacted this facility 3 times in advance to let them know I'm very allergic to bed bugs... asking if that would be a problem as I was buying a non-refundable stay. I was assured that they had taken care of any problem and would fully refund my money if any bed bugs were found. After I arrived, while preparing to sleep, I found a bed bug and captured it in a baggie for proof. I didn't wait to find more. There is never only one bug. I quickly texted and called the number I had for the desk clerk but there was no answer as it was quite late. I left a message that I'd be back to get the refund in the morning. In the morning, I was told at the desk that I had to call the manager in LA. The woman named Michael (or something like that) could not have been more difficult if she tried. She accused me of conveniently planting the bug. Of bringing it with me so I could pretend I had found it. For what purpose??!! I would have been more than happy to have stayed at PodShare... but without bugs in my bed. Their bugs forced me to spend valuable vacation time finding another place to stay! Michael said no one that worked there would have ever said I could get a refund... but they most certainly did. I'm 66 years old and certainly don't have any need to lie. If you stay here, you must know....you will NOT be helped and bed bugs are a likelihood. The hostel apparently cannot control them even though they say they have. You will be disrespectfully mistreated. I didn't sleep here because I am very allergic to bed bugs. I was told 3 times that there would be no bugs or they would refund what I had paid in full. They did not honor what I was told in advance. They did not refund one penny of my week-long stay. I was also treated extremely poorly by management in LA. She said she was going to tell 'the management team' to give me a refund and to call me. I have that recorded on my phone. I have not received a call or a refund. I booked through Booking.com and found this to be another mistake. BEWARE!

I have stayed here 3 times visiting SD from LA. Great location walking distance from the Santa Fe train station. Easy check in/out.

After staying downtown all weekend, I wanted a more quiet and calm spot for my last night in SD. I booked through Priceline and prepaid my stay for the night at $41 in an all female 6-bed dorm. Mark greeted me upon my arrival early Sunday evening. He was kind, professional and informative. We actually are both from the same home state, coincidentally. After checking me in, he gave me a tour. . The place is huge and very clean. Very much donned in a surfer bohemian aesthetic. They have surfboards for rent, but extra towels, blankets and yoga mats are free to use at will. There's a tv room that leads to the courtyard/lounge and kitchen areas. Plenty of seating either on small tables, benches or the patio couches. There's also a hammock, a front porch with swing chairs, a bar, & vending machines. A couple of clear door fridges are in the lounge area and duplicate in the kitchen. There are top left shelves designated to abandoned foods that are up for grabs. The kitchen is like an island surrounded by the lounge, courtyard and downstairs dorm hall. This arrangement allows the kitchen to remain open 24 hours as the dorm hall side is closed off with a sliding door. Most hostels close their kitchen at night to not disturb other guests, but this is most convenient. They also offer free tea accesible 24 hours and free breakfast from 7am-9am. . There are several single occupancy restrooms and two communal ones designated for men and women. My room was tight quarters, but overall functional. There's a nook with an overhead light next to the bed and adjacent to an outlet. The room has a big window which my fellow roomies did the right thing and opened it wide. The room also has a mirror vanity and sink which was helpful if I didn't want to go out to the hall to use the restroom. The sheets were clean, smelled phreshly washed and the blanket was thick and warm. . It's also not far from downtown. I commuted there via the trolley and the bus which took about 45 minutes. You can cheat the system and take an Uber part of the way to or from Old Town (the bus leg of the trip). I would definitely stay here again and hope to have more time in Ocean Beach. There are many restaurants, cafes and shops nearby and literally steps from the water. If you need quality accommodations, in a great location on a budget, Samesun will get the job done! . Sidenote: There are only stairs inside and outside of the building.

This hostel sits right on the beach and boardwalk and is known for its lively, social atmosphere. I was originally hoping for something a bit more peaceful and restful, but I ended up loving the energy. In terms of cleanliness, it doesn't quite measure up to my experience in Zurich. However, that shortcoming is easily overshadowed by the incredible ambiance and stunning location. The sound of the ocean waves alone is enough to melt away stress. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by friendly faces. The hostel feels like one giant living room filled with friends from all over the world.
