Thank you Stephan for your exceptional service and patience. Lucky's has an ecletic ambiance and is located in a prime location of San Diego. It's reasonably priced, clean, and the beds are comfortable. I especially enjoyed the common area which was a nice spot to watch the Karate Kid and play some jams on the piano. I'll definitely come back when I'm ready for another magical night in the Gaslamp Quarter.

We booked our private room through Hostelworld, who which didn't communicate on their end to our Hostel so with us not having a room. Stefan accommodated us so amazingly. One of the best stays we could've had after our mix up! Soon as they realized the problem they were able to offer us just as good of an alternative. It was that much more appreciated because of the time crunch we were on to prepare and attend our concert. They were extremely accommodating and fast. We got into our rooms, got ready, made our concert that much more enjoyable with the stress avoided having to possibly change our entire plan. Hostelworld dropped the ball on this one. Stefan & I will be contacting their email to try to get me a refund on the initial deposit through their app. The entire staff was friendly and even continued accommodating us for Hostelworld's error. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Keep it up guys. People like you are what make these places that much more fun, enjoyable and relaxing. Thank you! SO MUCH!

Had a great time these past 5 days. My 4 bed female room was spotless and the bedding was nice and fresh. Each common area was very clean, even the bathrooms which i was surprised about. They provide bagels apples and bananas for breakfast 7:30-10:30 ( coffee and tea all day) and the kitchen closes at 11:59pm sharp. Each day they have a different group activities the patrons. Although the hostel is above a bar, it's really not that loud if you're used to city life. They are serious about quiet hours and do provide really good ear plugs if you need them! I would def return!

This is probably the best place to stay in San Diego if you really want to feel the vibe of the city. My and my boyfriend were having hard time leaving San Diego, cause we've loved it so much. The staff makes you feel as home, it's very clean and cozy. I am blissfully remembering my stay there. Go ahead and enjoy everyone!

Highly recommend.

Dear Management Team, I am writing to formally bring to your attention several recurring issues regarding the facilities and service at Hostel on 3rd. While the hostel's central location in the Gaslamp Quarter is a significant asset, several operational and maintenance factors are currently detracting from the guest experience and falling short of industry expectations for budget accommodations. Based on recent observations and consistent guest feedback, I would like to highlight the following areas of concern: Sanitary and Cleanliness Standards: There have been frequent reports regarding the cleanliness of the shared dormitories and bathrooms. Specific concerns include persistent unpleasant odors (notably in common areas), unwashed linens upon check-in, and a lack of consistent deep-cleaning in the communal restrooms. Facility Maintenance and Climate Control: The lack of air conditioning is a primary concern for travelers during warmer months. Furthermore, the absence of an elevator in a historic multi-story building creates significant accessibility challenges for guests with heavy luggage or mobility limitations. Transparency of Fees: There is notable dissatisfaction regarding the $20 surcharge for credit card payments and the strict policy surrounding the $20 cash deposit. Guests have reported that these fees feel punitive, particularly when the check-out process is not clearly communicated, leading to the potential loss of deposits. Staff Professionalism and Security: While some staff members are highly regarded, there are consistent reports of unwelcoming or impatient service during check-in and check-out. Additionally, some guests have expressed concerns regarding the general feeling of safety within the building, suggesting a need for more robust security presence or modernized access controls. As a prominent fixture in San Diego's hostel community, Hostel on 3rd has the potential to provide a premier experience for budget travelers. Addressing these issues--specifically regarding sanitation and fee transparency--would significantly improve the property's reputation on platforms like Hostel world and Expedia. I trust that you will take this feedback into account as you look to improve your operations. I look forward to seeing these improvements implemented for the benefit of future guests. Sincerely,

After staying downtown all weekend, I wanted a more quiet and calm spot for my last night in SD. I booked through Priceline and prepaid my stay for the night at $41 in an all female 6-bed dorm. Mark greeted me upon my arrival early Sunday evening. He was kind, professional and informative. We actually are both from the same home state, coincidentally. After checking me in, he gave me a tour. . The place is huge and very clean. Very much donned in a surfer bohemian aesthetic. They have surfboards for rent, but extra towels, blankets and yoga mats are free to use at will. There's a tv room that leads to the courtyard/lounge and kitchen areas. Plenty of seating either on small tables, benches or the patio couches. There's also a hammock, a front porch with swing chairs, a bar, & vending machines. A couple of clear door fridges are in the lounge area and duplicate in the kitchen. There are top left shelves designated to abandoned foods that are up for grabs. The kitchen is like an island surrounded by the lounge, courtyard and downstairs dorm hall. This arrangement allows the kitchen to remain open 24 hours as the dorm hall side is closed off with a sliding door. Most hostels close their kitchen at night to not disturb other guests, but this is most convenient. They also offer free tea accesible 24 hours and free breakfast from 7am-9am. . There are several single occupancy restrooms and two communal ones designated for men and women. My room was tight quarters, but overall functional. There's a nook with an overhead light next to the bed and adjacent to an outlet. The room has a big window which my fellow roomies did the right thing and opened it wide. The room also has a mirror vanity and sink which was helpful if I didn't want to go out to the hall to use the restroom. The sheets were clean, smelled phreshly washed and the blanket was thick and warm. . It's also not far from downtown. I commuted there via the trolley and the bus which took about 45 minutes. You can cheat the system and take an Uber part of the way to or from Old Town (the bus leg of the trip). I would definitely stay here again and hope to have more time in Ocean Beach. There are many restaurants, cafes and shops nearby and literally steps from the water. If you need quality accommodations, in a great location on a budget, Samesun will get the job done! . Sidenote: There are only stairs inside and outside of the building.

I am so happy I found this place via AARP! Located in the heart of the Gaslamp District, I had never heard of this hotel prior to searching. Upon checking in, the desk clerk was very friendly, efficient, and answered any questions that I had. As for the room, he put us up on the top (4th) floor. Room is the perfect size for two people. Very clean, warm, inviting, and has some really cute and convenient amenities such as a pineapple themed USB quad port at the desk, along with a Keurig machine (had I known that I'd have brought my own Starbucks K-cups)! The bed was nice and comfy with lots of soft but supportive pillows and two separate comforter blankets so you're not fighting for covers if you are sharing the bed with someone or your significant other. Bathroom is very modern and clean. A hairdryer is hanging in the bathroom as well. The only item missing was an iron and an ironing board; however, you can request that at the front desk. If you are looking for a hotel with a gym, laundry facilities on site, and a full breakfast buffet or continental breakfast, then this place is not for you; however, if those things don't matter to you {I typically look for those types of hotels during a longer stay) then this hotel is all you need. You also get other unexpected creature comforts such as Starbucks coffee in the lounge along with 4 different blends of water as well as these cute pineapple cookies in the afternoon. Based in Seattle, WA, I am so happy I found this chain as I will be on the lookout and consider staying in other cities. Parking is available in a garage connected to the hotel next door for a fee. Also, bikes are available in the lobby for getting around (not sure if gratis or for a fee). I definitely recommend staying here! One small recommendation for the hotel: provide rooms with a small microwave and mini fridge to reheat leftovers. It all worked out as I gave a homeless guy mine.

I've stayed in Gaslamp before, so my hope was that at a minimum this would be a safe and comfortable spot to rest my head. Honestly, they totally met my expectations and then some (not a lot, mind you, but some). The staff were super friendly, even offering my companion and I flowers for Women's History Month and the lobby amenities included a water station and complementary cookies (pineapple shaped, of course). The rooms weren't super spacious but it was enough for a night and they were clean and safe, which is the most important part. Note: there is no parking attached to the hotel! Your best bet is a public lot called Park it on Market about a block away. It's $21 to park overnight and you can book in advance (which I highly recommend because it can sell out).
