A relaxing beach retreat shouldn't require a first-aid kit. Then there's the humidity...the kind that makes your clothes feel like they went swimming without you. The air inside the room is basically ocean soup, and everything smells faintly of wet flip-flops. Be prepared to wash every piece of your clothing, whether or not you wore it on vacation. The bathroom features a stylish sliding barn door, which is a great design choice if you've always wanted to share your most private moments with your travel companion. I was in Pacific Beach for an overnight and decided try this hotel which is down the street from where I usually stay (Pacific Terrace.) I was disappointed at the lack of "partial" ocean view. There was NO ocean view from our room. Parking was an issue. We had to park blocks away and then move our car because of street sweeping. There aren't even reserved spaces to check in. The room was bare bones. No closet. No extra toiletries aside from basic shampoo, conditioner, and soap. The room was small and oddly shaped so it made it difficult to see the tv. Not enough outlets by the bed. Won't be staying here again. Plus all the text check-in and check-out text reminders were intrusive. They make you sign stressful acknowledgements at the beginning about rules and room keys. This was not a relaxing place to stay. read more

The hotel is cute but tiny. On the plus side, the location is perfect. It's withing walking distance of a multitude of restaurants and bars. The location right on the beach walk makes if perfect for watching the sunset or people watching. If you're up for a thirty minute walk, you can stroll all the way to Belmont park or La Jolla depending on which direction you go. However, the rooms are very small. The king room we had is smaller than our bedroom. The was a nightstand and lamp on only one side of the bed. The internet is slow when working and dropped three times during our day and 1/2 stay. The place was perfect for what we wanted. Reasonably priced with a view of the water. They are very friendly and allowed us to check in early when we asked. They also upgraded our room without asking right on arrival. The only drawback is limited parking. But that is not something that they can control. They have 3 or 4 spaces you can buy to park overnight. But it is first come first serve so dont wait and dont expect it to be easy to find any other parking. We found a lot nearby but iaid more than we like for 5 hours until we found a place close at dusk. Room was very clean and very comfortable. We will stay again. read more

The Worst Hotel Experience Ever PROS * Located near the beach CONS * Very poor customer service. * Not a hotel, more like a hostel; staff is only at the front desk part time. If you need more towels, sheets, pillows, or if the toilet backs up and starts spilling sewage all over the floor, there is no one to help you. * There is no closet or set of drawers to accommodate the clothes of two people. You must live out of suitcases. * Rooms are dark and gloomy -- painted in dark colors and lack large windows, evoking the feeling of living inside a garage or basement. * Furnishings are spartan and uncomfortable. * Essentially, no parking (4 parking spots with an expensive per night fee.) It is extremely difficult to find parking near the hotel. Plan to spend 45 minutes to an hour looking for parking each night. * Amenities simply do not exist: no complimentary water, no microwave, no clock, no hair dryer. * The hotel does not have an ice machine or food vending machine. * AC/heating system is loud, ineffective, and difficult to use. Went here for a 1 day and night 1. couldn't find a single parking in the premises for the whole day so we decided to stay out and hang around the city. It was a hassle considering we were really exhausted from traveling. 2. when we arrived at our room finally late at night when parking cleared up, the bedroom we booked were not ocean view even though we paid extra. 3. I got too exhausted to deal with all this bs and decided to lay down. lo and behold, a bed filled with sand. paid $300 and they couldn't even clean properly nor give us a comforter along with a second layer sheet. Very underwhelming !!! The only pros are that you are walking distance from many shops, restaurants and the beach. Everything else sucks. The windows are small and skinny you can't see the beach unless you open the main door to your room! Our bathroom had a BARN DOOR it was awful! No privacy and it's not sound proof at all! It wouldn't even close right and one time it got my finger (ouch) There's no closet just a little metal shelf where you're suppose to hang clothes on. No mini microwave, no hairdryer, no water bottles. The floor was dirty, the shower was dirty and missing tiles !!!! So gross. It was stuffy even when we turned the air or fan on. Bathroom fan didn't work well. The rooms bed frames were dangerous! I hit my shin in the middle of the night when I got up to use the restroom. They put some stiff corner guards on the sharp corners of the bed but they don't do much! There were no head boards! One of our beds was right under a window so we had to use a pillow as a headboard on that spot. Nothing smelled fresh or clean. The room is an ugly royal daycare blue and dark as hell even with multiple lights on. Coffee maker had old water in it with no complimentary water bottles to fill it with. And it wasn't necessarily cheap either we paid almost $800 for two nights! Worse of all no parking! You have to drop an additional like $200 or so to get a parking space if not good luck waiting for a spot to open! This was the worst experience. First of all, there is no parking. My husband booked a room for us and my MIL (who was still recovering from a heart attack) that was advertised at ground floor level and opens right on the beach. The room was NOT ground floor level, they don't have elevators, and the beach was a 40-stair hike away, none of which my MIL could do. They weren't accommodating about switching, they charged us for an extra night when we had to find a new hotel that was accessible, and during the night we had to stay there, we locked ourselves out and they charged us $150 to open the room for us. Ok I booked with high hopes. PB is my favorite place to go and it was date night. Pros: location is a great spot, clean enough, and gave me a discount since they messed up my parking spot, food nearby Cons: (1) paid for a room with a partial -view. The website showed that it would be upstairs, this room was more expensive. The only view we had was of the enormous stairwell. It was downstairs and there was no view. (2) Called in advance regarding parking. I booked straight through their hotel website. No word during the entire part of me booking said you had to pay $30 for parking. Didn't see that it said I had to pay for parking until after I booked the room. Maybe I just didn't notice but I did look for that. Then I call them to confirm this, They held the reservation with the parking spot for us and it was being billed to my room. When we arrived they told us that they overbooked parking and could no longer give us our parking spot. We got there about 4:25. Check-in was at 4:00 so we had to find street parking and I'm glad we did but that's because we got lucky. Which also means you can't leave in your vehicle or you will lose your parking spot so you have to stay . They gave us a credit since we did not get the parking. (3) The room is small but that's fine. The curtains did not fully cover the window and you face the window when sleeping. Although it is nice that it is a well lit area outside, it is so well lit that it is like having spotlights beaming through your room. So the room was not dark at all and it was very, very hard to try and sleep. For the cost and the issues, and paying for a partial view we did not receive, we would not go back. We did read reviews prior to booking, most were good, few were bad on minor things, but figured it was a difference in personalities, preferences and tolerance. Favorable Factors: Location, cost, Wifi & a mini frig. Beach is right there. Food available down the street, literally 2 short blocks, 2 min walk. A lot is within walking distance within a couple of blocks. We did save a good chunk per night going through Expedia, rather than direct. Unfortunately the only good points. Unfavorable Factors: (Unexpected downfalls) I saw parking was limited, 4 spaces for 20+ units. Many people complained they were charged a fee per night whether they got a spot or not. Not worth it, use Über or Lyft from airport. They claim there is street parking but it's always filled by beachers and guests for nearby restaurants up the street and a few other guests. Never saw an open spot the whole 3 days we were there. No parking for Expedia guests period. That was ok, we flew in and used Über. Small fee from airport (incl tip). Well worth the 21 min drive and not dealing with traffic or parking. Staff is only there (in & out) about 7 am - 8:30 pm. There is a number on the door to call but you may get charged for something. A few harmless bums across the street by the beach. No clock , phone, microwave, hair dryer or complimentary water. No closet, just a small shelve unit w/a few hangers. Bottled water for a fee in the office and a small selection of chips for a fee as well. Not much of a "convenience store." Barn door on bathroom, no privacy. I clearly heard through the big cracks, the other guest pooping. Toilet paper is 2 feet from toilet (literally), shower is completely open, curtain doesn't reach floor, water goes all over the floor, shower head on one side, on/off knob on the other. AC/heat unit is complicated, no instructions. Took us 24 hrs to figure it out, meantime we sweated the first night. Low lighting, it's dark, even darker with shades down. Looks like a bunker, dark blue color on ceiling and top of wall, off white lower wall, no decorations, plain walls. Have to keep shades down on bottom floor b/c sidewalk was right there and people were looking in. No elevator for top floor, so good luck lugging your luggage up, but at least you won't have any peepers. The love seat is outside patio furniture that will eventually break after sitting on a few times. I am a small light person and even when I sat on it, it bowed. For 2 hrs around noon I tried to rest for an hour, and the early morning 6-8 am, rudely awaken by someone upstairs being very noisy, stomping, jumping or something. Naturally office staff was not around for help. Saw a note "weekly housekeeping" Never saw any housekeeping, yet a big rolling bin sat out front our room full of towels all day on the 2nd day. Either rooms are not getting cleaned between guests or the office staff is only doing a quick job in between. Which explains their constant in and out. Want your sheets changed, they might give you the sheets, but you gotta do it. Room appeared clean, but was it really cleaned before we got in there? No maintenance tech either. Anything goes wrong, you may be charged for the call/service. Check in is 4 pm, but they will hold your luggage & you can go out & about. We came back at 4:15 pm, room still was not ready, said 10 minutes, still not ready so we went back out. Got a nasty text message 7:45 pm saying clerk was leaving at 8:30 pm better check back in or no room for the night. Probably a fee to be let in after that time. So we had to leave dinner early, got there 8:00 pm, our luggage was gone. Apparently it was put in our room. No courtesy call/ text saying our room was ready, whenever that was, yet they texted us 7:45 pm saying to come now or be without a room for the night. Two of the three clerks we experienced were extremely rude and not helpful. Now knowing the few minor quirks, we "may" stay again, we would do things differently, be prepared better. We were just shocked, unaware of those minor quirks. Could have been way worse though. We did look at other places for the future. Depending how picky you are, the location and cost I would think, are worth the downfalls that can be worked around, if/when known of. Otherwise it can make things a little uneasy and complicated. And remember, this is a private Inn, not a hotel or motel as expected, so things are unexpectedly A LOT different. Advice to the owner: take my honest review to heart and consider making necessary improvements to make guest stays more enjoyable and want to return. read more

Let me start by saying the pictures you see online are very deceiving. We got a room with 1 king bed and figured there would be enough space. It was quite literally smaller than a master size bedroom in a basic home. the "partial ocean view" is a small window you can look out to the "patio" (that you share with every person on that floor) and the ocean is far out into the distance. the second you walk into the room, you notice how moist it is in there. everything was wet by the end of our trip, including our cash, clothes, bathing suits, towels, etc. the ceiling in the room we had was not finished being painted which looked incredibly tacky for the amount of money you're paying. there was mold above our shower that was clearly painted over with some white paint. at 8am every morning they have people "working on the roof" making it hard to sleep in as every single wall is paper thin. you can hear people talking in the next room over. there's no house keeping so you have to request extra towels if you're staying more than one night. (that are all stained) they also only have one small trash can so any trash accumulates quickly. Getting onto the beach is still a good 3 minute walk with plenty of stairs to go down, it's definitely not an oceanfront hotel as it states. parking is $30/night IF you get lucky enough to get a pass as there's only 4 spots available for the whole hotel. if you don't get a parking pass, good luck finding any parking around the area! giving it the benefit of 3 stars because one of the office ladies was so sweet, and it does the job if you plan on staying busy outside of the hotel. read more

Will not recommend this place to anyone. I thought this would be a cute place to stay with my husband but it turned out to be a disaster. We got there around 3:30 from a celebration of life and of course we just wanted to change and relax. First, room wasn't ready, although we get it, check in is at 4pm. We didn't get our room until 5:30. We booked a partial ocean and they tried to give us a room on the first floor under the stairs. Finally in the room and there's toilet paper in the toilet. Walls are very thin, you can hear everyone's conversation next door. The bed was uncomfortable, woke up with a back pain. We tried to check out and since we booked it through expedia, we have to go through them. Contacted expedia and finally got someone but when they contacted the hotel, there's no manager to approve the early check out. Expedia was willing to get us a refund for the rest of the stay even if its a non refundable rate but no manager. They will try to keep you there as much as they can. This was never mentioned to us when we asked if we can check out early and get a refund for the rest of the stay. Manager only works Monday-Friday. Water in the shower was warm not hot, there is also a light sewer smell coming from the bathroom specially after taking a shower. Parking is $30 per night, you have to move the cones to reserve your spot. The only thing that was nice is the location which is a few steps from the beach. We left a day early and never coming back. Instead of having a nice, relaxing time, it was a very stressful and disastrous stay. read more

I don't feel like this service i've received has been at all professional. Drove in from Vegas for just 1 night. Lets start with the Pros PROS Location- Next to the beach with lots of shopping and places to eat and walk around great to watch the surfers and walk onto the pier. My boyfriend and I checked in on a cold and stormy new years eve. We realized there was no heat and contacted front desk. The front desk agent came and saw we had no heat and offered $50 off our rate. Reluctantly, on new years eve, we agreed as booking a different place would be hard. Then the rain storm became overwhelming to the area and water was flooding in from under our door. At this point there was no staff and we had to use the only towels (meants for showering) provided to cover the door from the water. There was no emergency number provided and when we checked out the woman at the front plainly suggested I call tomorrow. I do not recommend coming here at all, I've never felt more stranded in a storm and received the most uncaring response from a business. After speaking with a manager and acquiring the name of the staff who provided the details regarding the parking, she chose not to honor the quoted rate or offer any sort of apology or concession. Someone called the day of my reservation and stated that was true but I didn't qualify (though I am staying a full seven nights). So now I'm out an extra $105 and of course didn't find out till the day of my reservation so they won't let me cancel my reservation. The stay continues to get worse as they have given away the parking spot I reserved. This whole experience has driven me to tears and I can't stress enough that you should avoid this place at all costs. The only good thing is the walk to the beach. There's no parking spaces, and you have to pay extra money to reserve parking despite spending 200-300 on a small room. My family of four asked for a room and received a one-bed room, when we asked for a two-bed they said there was non available, and upon asking for a refund they told us they don't do refunds. When we received our room, the floors weren't clean, and the bedding felt terrible, and the thermostat was digital and broken. Walls were paper thin. Terrible service from the front desk. This is only getting two stars for the location! Other than that I was extremely dissatisfied with my stay here. I booked a DOUBLE room via Booking.com-never have I ever had any issues when booking through that site. I call ahead to ask if there was a possibility of an early check in which I was told my room was actually ready and there would be a $10 fee per hour before the actual check in time, seeing that I would be checking Iin approx 1-2pm I didn't see $20-$30 a big deal. I arrive to find out that not only did I not get a double bed but that we got a king, wheelchair accessible room, but that it was also just behind the office, directly in front of where there was construction still going on. The front office attendant-Bianca, said the times for construction were only from 9am-3pm. I voiced my dissatisfaction with this reservation, since I booked a double, not a king. Bianca explained that she could give me a different room but I would be charged the difference-why?! Not happy, she blamed booking through a third party site I am not guaranteed the room I reserve, yet I've never had an issue before!? Anyhoo, the next morning we were woken up around 630am to construction, but was told it wouldn't start until 9. The walls are extremely thin, I could hear every foot step from the tenant above us, the lighting was very dim inside of the room, bed linens were extremely thin and the furniture was a desk with a plastic patio chair. There wasn't a lot of air circulation in our room as the window is very small, I attempted to turn on the A/C only to find it didn't work. I went to the office and brought this up to another office attendant, and he didn't seem too concerned with my complaint. Only saying that I should've been told this at check in-which I wasn't-and only after asking for some sort of compensation-he offered to not charge me the $30/night parking fee. Which, by the way, they only offer 4 parking spaces-otherwise you have to search for street parking. One night stay and 3 hour early check in, $200. Again the location is it's selling point, won't return. read more

We loved our stay. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. When we booked the room the view from the website looks like the beach is straight out, but you descend the stairs to get to the water's edge. read more

My Wife and I spent 3 wonderful days here and the stay was awesome. The room was as advertised, clean and with great views of the boardwalk and ocean. It is great for walking, shopping and finding good food to eat. We took our bicycles and had a very good ride up and down the boardwalk. The Staff was friendly and helpful. So sad to be writing this. This was our 7th stay at Pacific View Inn... it has been a little home away from home. This trip was not the same. (New owners and management) We booked the "king ocean view" not the "king partial ocean view" paid an extra $50 per night. There was no ocean view and the girl who checked us in claimed they can't guarantee room type and the couple who checked in before us got the last ocean view room. The manager who had no customer service in her at all said if you want an ocean view you have to book "ocean front view king". Like I said. 7th stay. Never been a problem til now. Next is the parking. We paid for 2 nights of parking. $60. When we checked in there looked to be no parking left, the girl checking us in proved me wrong as she walked out and showed us where to park, there was a faint line as if it was parking, but it slightly over lapped a fire lane. She assured us it was the spot reserved for us. We got a $77 parking ticket from the city and again the manager said, that's not a parking spot so there is nothing we can do and said that she would have to get the "full, true story from the girl who checked us in." It may have been different if they were kind, understanding and non combative but every time something went wrong we were told it was our fault and to handle it. All 3 girls we dealt with were rude, short and non helpful. Especially the manager. We originally approached every new situation with a smile hoping to be met with understanding but every time were met with combative, hostile customer service which lead to us becoming aggravated. I actually didn't see a single smile out of all 3 girls such a bummer cause the spot it so absolutely beautiful. We did come into contact with issues with the bathroom door as well, it did not open or close properly. We will be looking for our new hotel away from home on our next trip. read more

This hotel is horrible! They were unwilling to waive our cancelation fee because we did not call with their cancelation window. The problem is that we did call, but their phones weren't working! We called several times to try to cancel and by the time their phones started to work, it was too late. Worth every. Single. Penny. Let me start by saying I never write reviews, so this is honest to god truth. I am so happy I chose to stay here. I'm visiting San Diego for a little weekend get away at the beach- my favorite place to be. The rooms are absolutely clean and beautiful (I chose the Ocean View King), the location and view is gorgeous and the staff is outstanding and kind. It's also a good area with lots of activity and things to do! I recommend leaving your windows cracked open at night, the sound of the waves crashing was all I needed, I'm 100% in love here. read more

We needed to find a hotel close to the beach and close to Oscars our favorite eatery. I called and I spoke to Josh. We made the reservation, easy no bs transaction. When we get to hotel we ending up falling in love. It was steps to pacific beach and 2 minute walk to oscars. The customer service was hands down one of best things about our spring break vacay. Josh was very accommodating, his smile was contagious. Josh had continental breakfast for us. Bagels, pastries and coffee. Every morning we got up and took a beautiful stroll down the beach. Great location, the beach is right at your door step. The staff is very friendly and informative. The room is cozy and quiet at night during spring break week. All I could hear was the waves of the ocean all night and it made me happy. They also provide bike and surf board rental. 4 stars because my reserved parking space was 3 and it got jacked by someone else when I was out touring. I got a phone call and I was told to park at 1. Space 1 is the worst parking spot because you have to get on the curb to park on it and my car is low to the ground. Boo to the staff for not fighting for my spot. The sink was also plugged in my room upon arrival but the staff was able to fix it quickly. Overall, great place and I would come back for sure. Pro tip: reserve your parking space at the time of your booking. It costs extra but so worth it. read more
