I have banked with NFCU for over ten years. Love their professional customer service…read morerepresentatives and their services. Their mortgage dept STINKS. If I could give a negative rating for their mortgage dept I would. I gave a 3 because regular banking is a 5, and mortgage is a negative. They are holding my escrow balance refund for 14 business days after they were paid by wire transfer for the mortgage payoff. If they can accept payment in a nanosecond, why do they feel as if they can keep my money for over 15 calendar days?!!

I have been a longtime Navy Federal member, and after what has now become **months** of dealing…read morewith their mortgage department, I would not recommend NFCU for this process. The problems started early. After I applied for a VA loan, Andrea, the loan officer, told me that a line of credit I had opened roughly a year earlier could not be used for earnest money because underwriting would scrutinize it. That immediately raised concern and made it sound like I was about to create a major underwriting problem. Come to find out, that information was wrong. That was one of the first moments where I seriously questioned whether I was getting competent mortgage guidance. I then demanded answers from Andrea's supervisor, Shelly, because my confidence moving forward was already shaken. At that point I was left wondering: **what else am I being told that is wrong, and when is the next problem going to show up?** That is also why I document and record important conversations. There is simply too much misinformation and incompetence in customer service today to rely on somebody later saying, "That's not what I said." And then there was Andrea's absence. A fill-in was supposedly covering the file while Andrea was out, yet from what I could see, **essentially nothing happened**. The application appeared to just sit there unattended until I once again had to involve a supervisor. What made that even more ridiculous was seeing the whole **"patience is a virtue"** type of message tied into the signature block while I'm sitting there watching a time-sensitive mortgage application go nowhere. Patience is a virtue? No. When someone is trying to buy a home, coordinate contracts, inspections, deadlines, financing and an interstate move, **basic responsiveness and competent file management are the virtues I'm looking for.** I should not have to be "patient" while a mortgage file appears to sit untouched because the primary loan officer is out and the person filling in does little or nothing with it. And once again, I had to notify management. Fast-forward months. We have been in this process far longer than expected because multiple properties uncovered serious issues during inspections. That is stressful enough on its own. We have had to deal with contracts, inspections, cancellations, buyer-agent representation, timing, and an interstate move. The lender should be the one part of the process providing stability and clarity. Instead, NFCU is back at it again. Days after I notified Andrea that we were **not moving forward with a property**, and even provided the **signed cancellation notice**, I continued receiving email notifications telling me to upload required documents for that same address. So what happened to the cancellation notice? What happened to the email? Was it reviewed? Was the file updated? Was the property removed? From the customer side, it looks like the information went straight into a black hole. And this is not the first time I have had to escalate. **Multiple times during this process I have had to contact supervisors because the handling of our mortgage application was unacceptable. Multiple times I made it crystal clear that if management could not get the process under control, Monica and I would take our mortgage business somewhere else.** That should never have to be said more than once. Yet here we are again. After months of this process and repeated concerns about communication, inaccurate information, repetitive requests, missed instructions, lack of coverage during absences, and things simply not getting handled when they should, I can only imagine the chaos behind the scenes. Then, after all this time, I specifically asked whether our VA loan could be **expedited** because we are already deep into the process and much of the documentation has already been provided. Instead of answering that question, I was told: "Barring any unforeseen events, our standard closing period for a VA loan is 30 days." Again, not what I asked. I did not ask what NFCU's standard timeline was. I asked whether **OUR FILE could be expedited.** That kind of response is exactly what has frustrated me throughout this process: direct questions get carefully worded, generic answers instead of direct answers. At some point, repeated misinformation, missed instructions, unanswered questions, obsolete document requests, an application sitting unattended during an absence, and obvious internal disconnect stop being "mistakes." At some point, it is incompetence. We put a lot of trust in NFCU to get this job done correctly. After months of unacceptable support, that trust is gone. Buying a home and moving are already stressful enough. No borrower should also have to constantly chase their mortgage lender, question whether information was actually received, wonder whether the correct file is being worked, or repeatedly escalate routine issues to management just to get clarity. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
