I have to go for a 1 star, which I am extremely saddened to do. I really loved PNC at first, the staff at the tony tank branch are extremely nice, the bank has everything I need but because of a few major underlining issues, I must rate 1 star.
To start, I was placed on a " foundation " checking account and told no matter how well I spent my money or how well I kept my account, I would need to wait 6 months from the date of opening my account, for it to be reviewed. Upon review it would need to be in good standing and not inactive.
This sucks because as a foundation account owner you are limited to 100$ a day in debit card transactions and 100$ a day in ATM withdrawals. This is a HUGE HUGE HUUUUUUUGE down-sight on their part, not only does it make paying bills incredibly difficult, but I feel like I'm being treated like a child being told how much of MY MONEY I can spend and when. Absolutely NOT!
Jump ahead 6 months to July 29th 2019, I was on a 3 month layoff from work (college work, students leave, I get laid off) so I was living off unemployment for 3 months, well unemployment uses their own personal debit card so no need to use my bank.
Being that my account was inactive and -6.62 (from the stupid service fee I get charged monthly) my review date came and went as any normal day. No mail, no email, no phone call, NOTHING! So my account continued to be foundation. I figured once I get paid (I returned to work the 22nd of August and will be paid September 15th) I can go into the bank in person and ask about a possible manual review of my account. No go... I didn't even get to pay day yet and the unthinkable happened.
They. Closed. My. Account.
Not a big deal you'd think normally, my account WAS inactive 3 months and negative 3 months so under normal circumstances it'd be understood but my issue is I WAS NOT TOLD or even WARNED for that matter. I go no email, no snail mail, no phone call (despite them having my phone # and have previously called me for other things before) or anything, just boom account closed. I only found out when I was trying to set up earn-in to see if I could get a paycheck advance.
So I contacted the twitter support team (being it was after hours for the branch) and asked what to do, I was told I would need to contact account recovery team from X to X date and time but I was so mad I just decided FORGET IT.
I will NOT be contacting them, I will NOT be getting my account back, and I will NOT be going back to PNC or recommending it to ANYBODY.
If you have bad credit, stay away from PNC, they will put you on a foundation account just as they did me, treat you like a child, and tell you how much of YOUR money you can spend per day. I switched to chime, online banking, easy sign up, card came quick enough, and best of all, NO SPENDING LIMITS! read more
