It is hard to describe what a gem this place is. It may be a little off the beaten track, but it is well worth the short jaunt of the main drag. As soon as you get out of your car and begin strolling down the path, you realize very quickly what a special place it is. You'll find unique pieces of art along the gorgeous, flowering, garden path - sculptures, concrete art - and a beautiful pond, fountain/waterfall, and swing & outdoor gazebo/seating area. Then, you walk in the door of the gallery and are usually greeted by one of the working artists! Often, the potter (Chad) will come out from his "working gallery" studio area with fresh clay still on his hands or clothing. Or, one of the other many artists that work and show their work at Plum Bottom may come out and greet you. Then... you begin... to look at the ceramic pottery. You'll be blown away by the intricate yet simplistic pieces and sculptures while also finding some of the most functional/dishwasher safe/utilitarian pieces of practical pottery. Chad is the potter and owner - and you'll undoubtedly find his outlook on life and honed artistic skill shine in his work. The colors/glazes and shapes of the pottery change dramatically from visit to visit. Every time I've been there, the gallery has a completely new look and feel with a surprising addition or incredibly new/refreshing style of work. In addition, there are jewelry artists whose work shines in a brilliant and complementary way to the pottery. I've purchased pottery, jewelry, wood carved block prints, and fantastic paintings from Plum Bottom Pottery. This place is a top echelon art experience, and if you're in Door County - Plum Bottom Pottery is a "must see." If you follow their web page or Facebook, you'll find that they have several different events throughout the year. These events always have new works, fantastic food & drink, and a great mix of fun, art-loving people. read more
