From the very first conversation, Frank was not only professional and organized, but also brought a warmth and kindness that made us feel genuinely cared for. The thought of having to plan an Honorable Military Memorial service at Miramar National Cemetery while grieving was not something we thought would be easy, but we didn't have to, Frank handled everything, he made the process feel seamless and thoughtful every step of the way. He was patient in answering every question, no matter how small and made sure every detail was handled with compassion and respect. What truly stood out was the kind and comforting energy Frank brought to each interaction. He has a beautiful way of honoring the weight of the moment while still creating a space of peace and even lightness -- something our my mom and I deeply needed and appreciated. The service itself was beautiful and everything went smoothly, thanks to Frank's attention to detail and heartfelt guidance. We left feeling not only supported but truly grateful to have had someone like Frank by our side through it all. If you're navigating a loss and looking for someone who leads with empathy, grace and professionalism, I cannot recommend Frank Manzano and Clairemont Mortuary enough. He made a heartbreaking time feel a little more bearable and even beautiful. Thank you, Frank -- we'll never forget your kindness.

Instead of having the family burdened with additional responsibilities when his time comes- it was great to see him being proactive. And honestly, a huge relief, in my opinion. Back then, and to this present day- he's been living in a facility that takes care of his daily needs. So, when I got his phone call that a representative from Featheringhill Mortuary would make the drive to him and get the paperwork started- pops requested my presence as well. So, I brought this up to my momma- (parents have been divorced for 30 years & actually have a friendship still). And she asked to be present as well, with pops approval. Had a representative not made the visit to his facility- we would have rented a mobility van, which isn't cheap to make such arrangements. The FM representative was patient and forthcoming when it came to explaining services, what to expect when payment is made, and why we would receive paperwork from a life insurance company. Since the arrangements have been accommodated for pops- momma has been interested in getting something very similar to his policy. As the years passed by, I have procrastinated in setting up the appointment for momma. We finally set one up and went to their location. I asked if they could retrieve pop's policy and we can piggyback on his arrangements. The FM rep was patient with momma, who has trouble at times understanding the English language. Her appointment took an hour. We didn't feel rushed at all. We booked our appointment first thing in the morning. Parking lot in the back, with some of the stalls looking very cramped. And off street parking on El Cajon Blvd. I'm most likely going to make my arrangements with FM very soon as well.

California Cremation and Burial provided exceptional service from the time I first met Jorge Rizo…read more(Funeral Director) at their office. Hours after my father passed away, I went straight to California Cremation and Burial as my first choice and didn't regret a bit. Jorge was kind, professional and very honest as far as the monetary amount for the services requested. Their price package was very reasonable compared to the other mortuary around the city. He was very straight forward and never offered extra services that we don't need. He was very knowledgeable on the process with regards to the transfer of remains from the US to overseas. He was able to provide a date for my Dad's visitation service that was convenient to all family members. After we talked and agreed on the services we requested, he was up and running taking custody of my dad from the hospital morgue within an hour. He also posted my Dad's obituary in their website that same day. He was in constant contact, giving me updates and needed documents to facilitate acquisition of his death certificate from the county which he obtained a week after my Dad's passing. I was very impressed of how quick that process went through. Regarding the visitation service, Manuel (Service Attendant) did an outstanding job having my Dad ready at the Chapel at the scheduled time. He was very kind and compassionate to all family members and guests who attended. Reverend Jesse Lopez also performed an outstanding job for his part during the service. The chapel, kitchen and dining area were clean and neat. Family members and guests were impressed with the whole facility. The service proceeded smoothly as planned. Overall, On behalf of my family, we are very satisfied, thankful and grateful from the outstanding staff of California Mortuary and Burial for the outstanding services they have provided. I highly recommend them to family and friends if they ever need their services in the future. Respectfully, Arthur D.

We looked into Cortez Cremations based on their listing with the San Diego Memorial Society. We…read morechose to place my mom in their care for a few reasons. My three sisters and I liked the fact that they are also three sisters who were familiar with cancer in their family (like us). We also like to support local, family/ women-owned businesses. We met with Angela (one of the owners) a couple days after my mother's passing and it couldn't have been a better encounter, considering the sad circumstances. It is a time of extreme shock and grief, and I have seen firsthand how many funeral providers take advantage of our need to honor our dearly departed by guilting people into extravagance and excess. Not Cortez. Angela was intuitive, personable, empathetic, knowledgeable and above all, so kind to us during the hardest time of our life. She was a real person who laughed and cried with us, allowing us to ask what seemed like a million questions, never making us feel rushed. She was not afraid to tell us her family's personal story, and that the reason they started this company was to be able to take care of our loved ones with as much consideration as they do their own. Their motivation is pure, and not once did we ever feel upsold or pressured to do anything more than what my mother and our family wanted. Dennis also helped with the details and death certificates and even delivered them to my office. They allowed us to use our own urns that were previously purchased, then willingly honored my mother's request to divide her ashes among her five children. (That was a huge burden lifted from our shoulders to have the experts handle that.) Even though we opted not to have Cortez coordinate a formal service or a viewing (we had a private family memorial at a later date), they thoughtfully prepared my mother for our final goodbye at their crematorium, and even showed us where she would be cremated, answering our many questions and reviewing the process with us because we wanted to know everything. The gentleman in charge of that was so gracious (I can't recall his name, but I recall his kind manner). They all made sure taking care of the business end of my mother's death was as comforting as possible. If you are looking for a family to take care of your family, Angela and her team are the real deal. I am so glad there is an independent, family-owned business like this in San Diego that cares about people, not just the bottom line. In the end, we walked away with a very simple cremation for less than $800, and yet we were treated like high-budget customers from beginning to end. Well, that's too impersonal. We were really treated like family. Don't let the fact that they are extremely affordable lead you to think you'll get bargain-basement funeral services - you couldn't be more wrong about that. I highly recommend them without hesitation, and our other family members and I plan to make advance arrangements with them as well. Thank you to Angela, Dennis and the team for taking such good care of us.

The business card at crematorium when I picked up remains was for a different company. There was no receptionist. I had to wait quite a while for technician to come to front desk. Technician confirmed Cortez Cremations is not the owner. There is a I believe three percent fee for credit or debit card. To avoid, I dropped a check to her "office" which was in Bankers hill area not National City. The "office" is a receptionist for what looked like 30 tenants. Their cards are on her counter. She put my check in a hanging file folder that didn't appear to be secured. Looks like there's folders for each tenant. I guess tenants come down to get them. No one came down from their office to greet or console me. Just dropped check to reception and bye. I purchased "Direct cremation". I had to do all the paperwork, phone calls , website research and stand in line at post office for military flag and honors while in mourning. If this is the only place you can afford, this might be a good place for you. If you want to minimize stress and worry, maybe think hard.
