And they were so communicative throughout the whole process. We felt that they truly cared about us. I was assisted by TIP who quoted the correct average cost but neglected to verify that with the midnight phone number about pickup. They kept me at bay for almost a week then broke the news that my bill would be nearly 30% higher than average because they can. To remove my brother to a more economical service would cost even more. Recommend any alternative, price verification prior to service also. Expect delays here. read more

Do not use North County Cremation Service. - The place smells awful. - I didn't know some information for my Mom's death certificate and told Ken I would email him the missing information...which I did...I just picked up the death certificates and Ken did not enter the information I provided. - Ken does not call you back in the 5-10 minutes as he states in his message when you call him. Usually takes a few hours, if at all. - Ken will not call you when your loved one's ashes/death certificates are ready to be picked up as he says he will. Bottom line...a horrible, smelly and creepy experience. read more

I know others have posted low ratings and negative comments, which average 2 Stars for the 15 submitted reviews, but I wanted to share that our family was satisfied with the overall service provided by the company. Losing someone puts you in an emotional state where it is easy to post anything you want to regarding a company. I am by no means negating previous comments made by others because everyone deals with death differently. One recommendation I would make is for the company to modernize their data input, getting away from jotting information down on paper. By using an online data entry process, all parties would have up to date information regarding the clients wishes. read more

This place is a joke. I called about my mothers remains and the person on the phone told me that the one who deals with that was at lunch and I should call back in about 30 minutes. I called back 45 minutes to an hour later and the guy on the phone rudely said "She's not here. I will call you back" and he hung up. The next day I called and asked about there business hours and was told they close at 4pm. I said I would be there begore 4 and asked if I needed to make a reservation or just go there. I got no answer, so when I went tgere they were closed and it was only 3:15 pm. I called and they guy on the phone told me nobody was there. He tokd me I should have made an appointment. I told him that I asked him about that earlier in the morning and got no answer. Finally after arguing with this guy he agreed to show up. Very unprofessional and well organized. read more

My mom died a few weeks ago, and I used North County Cremation Service because back in 2005 my dad prepaid for his cremation, as he was elderly and declining in health. When he passed away, I found it very easy to work with NCCS. Now, just a few weeks ago, my mom passed away. I went to NCCS and again had a fine experience. I wanted to post a review to balance out the negative reviews. If a company were as horrible as the bad reviews suggest, it would go out of business. read more

My father-in-law passed away at the end of June. The day before he passed, I had called a few cremation services to ask them about how they worked, and their services etc. Ken assured me that they were 24 hours, they would get to me ASAP in all situations, and generally reassured me about the entire process. I made the mistake of believing him, and not even thinking to check to see if Yelp even HAD reviews on these sorts of things. If you are checking reviews? Please listen to everyone here. They're right. After my father-in-law passed, we made an appointment after numerous calls to Ken, and finally went to his office. I had no qualms about the office itself, but the visit was less than friendly. He seemed impatient, was rude when my fiance was unfamiliar with some of the information needed for the death certificate, and gave the overall feeling of not wanting to be there. When we had to pick out another urn because the original was too expensive (there's no pricing on them online, not his fault) he heaved a huge sigh. But that's just the tip of the iceburg, really. I just let it go, figuring it a bad day. After this, I asked how long the process would take. He told us it would take until the 10th at the very latest. When we called him on July 10th, (as we heard nothing from him) we mentioned we needed death certificates to close accounts etc - he said he could get them to us by Monday. Come Monday, we hear nothing from him, so I call on Tuesday to see what's going on. Instead, a young girl answers the phone (who was extremely nice) that let me know that Ken went on vacation until the end of the week and she didn't have any certificates. She said she had no idea who my father was, what was going on, but said I could go down to the county office myself to get the certificates, and we would be reimbursed when we picked up the ashes. I thanked her, and we went and got them ourselves that very day. From then until two days ago, we had been waiting for a call from, or calling Ken to see what was going on with the ashes. This is inexcusable. Did he lose them? Did we even get our father back? Who knows. Two days ago, we finally were able to get ahold of the elusive Ken to make an appointment for Monday. "I'll call you Monday morning to make an appointment" he said. Monday rolls around, no phone call. Furious, I call the number provided here instead of Ken's number and got an extremely confused man who had no idea what was going on either. I left a message for Ken, and told the man who was a part of the business I needed Ken to call me. He said he would in the morning. Morning rolls, no call. 1pm, finally he calls my fiance, and sets up an appointment for today, Wednesday at 3pm. We go in today (the 22nd), get in a little early, and his son is there. His son was extremely nice as well, albeit uninformed and slightly unprofessional, but he was young. He said his dad was on the way and would be there soon. We mentioned we wanted reimbursement for the death certificates we had to buy. We waited for about 15 minutes, and we got the ashes, and his son told us he spoke with his dad and that everything was fine -- we would get a check in the mail and we didn't have to stick around. I asked him where his father was, and he said (10 minutes past 3) "he's going to be a little late". I absolutely lost it by this point, and just left. I told the son I wasn't mad at him, but this business is a joke, that I was furious, and the level of unprofessionalism preying on grieving families is disgusting. Since I knew I'd probably never get a hold of Ken, I asked him to relay that message. I told his son to please have his father call me as soon as he got in, since he missed our appointment. It's 6:52pm and I still have not gotten a phone call. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT utilize this joke of a "business". If we had been told it would take this long, it would have been fine. But instead we were yanked around, told it would be done sooner, we had to cancel memorial plans, and got to drive an hour to the office to get the certificates that should have been received long before. And the date of the certs given to us were from just 5 days ago. A JOKE. This place is a JOKE. read more

DO NOT USE! My Sister-in-Law's mother passed a way recently. I went with my sister-in-law to meet with Ken to retain and schedule services. We showed up early, and waited till he showed up. Once inside, we sat at his desk and he proceeded to had us forms to fill out. We had to ask about a special urn or box. He grudgingly looked through his books for what he thought we wanted. It was like pulling teeth. My Sister-in-law was a return customer and were treated like dirt! She didn't have all the information and emailed the info to Ken the next day with a message to call to verify receipt of information. No call from Ken. It has been about 2 months and no call from Ken or anyone from the facility. When My sister-in-law called, to complain, Ken says oh the ashes are here ad he'd deliver. She still doesn't have the ashes nor the death certificate. We'll see if it's correct when it arrives. A death to a family or friend is never a good time. No one should have to be treated like dirt at a time like this. A letter to the Board of Crematories and Funeral Services may be in the works. read more

I hope you are reading this before you picked North County Cremation Service. They were recommended by the nursing home my Aunt was in and I am going to write a letter telling them to STOP doing that. The service at this business was horrid at best. It took 7 weeks for my aunt to be cremated. It was one excuse after another. I would have to call three times to get a phone call back. Every time you call you get an answering service. I only talked to the owner 3 times in 7 weeks! It is terrible service! I wouldn't put this frustrating experience on anyone! Do yourself a favor! Shop somewhere else! read more

Do Not consider Ken Davidson and his company North Coast Cremation Service for your loved ones. My husband prearranged Ken's service in 2005 and again in 2011 when his cancer became terminal. March 21, 2013 Ken removed my husband's body and we did not receive the ashes until April 19,2013 three days before the memorial service. There was complete lack of professionalism and consideration for the grieving family. Messages had to be left with an answering service, lack of timeliness, and multiple errors in the death certificates. It took three months to get the amended death certificates. I have become aware of multiple bad experiences with Mr. Davidson's businesses. Filing a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs has given us some satisfaction. read more

I had a very good experience with the owner, Ken Davidson. I was making arrangements for a friends mother who had passed. The family had some special requests which Ken handled with ease. I found him to be comforting, reassuring and most importantly, available. Even on the weekend when the death occurred. He answered and/or returned all calls the same day. It does take about 2 weeks for the process to be completed but that is because of all of the paperwork and doctor/county sign-off's required. When I called other places who were 3 times the price they all said it would 1.5 to 2 weeks until the ashes were ready for pick up. His timeline is standard. My experience was extremely positive and while I hope the need does not come up anytime soon, I would be happy to recommend him to others with confidence. read more

DO NOT USE NORTH COUNTY CREMATION SERVICE! I filed a formal complaint about this business with the state. Their license needs to be revoked. Yelp seems to require at least one star, but if it were up to me I wouldn't give this business any. I called owner Ken Davidson on the morning of the day my mother passed away. I told him she was failing and we weren't sure how long she would be with us. He assured me he was available 24 hours a day and would come when called. My mother passed at 1:05 p.m. that day, and at my request the assisted living facility called Mr. Davidson, who said he would send someone within in 1 1/2 hours. I waited with my mother's body for hours and no one arrived or called. During that time the assisted living staff left two messages for Mr. Davidson and I left one. He never returned our calls and never showed up. We finally called McLeod Funeral Home in Escondido, who arrived promptly as promised and handled everything compassionately and professionally. Due to Mr. Davidson callous disregard and negligence, I had to sit with my mother's body for over four hours, grieving and worried. In retrospect, what happened was a blessing in disguise. If this is the shoddy level of service offered by North County Cremations, no telling how they would have mishandled my mother's cremation. I'm so glad I didn't entrust my loved one to them. read more

Firt off this place is not available 24/7 that is a lie. They are open only between business hours Monday through Friday. My Dad passed away unexpectedly and we were recommended to use this place by the county. The first issue was with an urn that was ordered but not ready on the day of my fathers service. We were told by Ken that he was unaware they were on back order. So we were given a loaner. The second issue we had with this place was a big inconvenience. Some of us wanted pendants and some had ordered urns for my fathers remains. When we payed for everything Ken realized we were over charged $112 for the keepsakes. So instead we used the overage and purchased some memorial cards for the service. However when we went to pick them up they only ordered half and not all attendees received a card. The third issue after waiting longer than a month for one of the urns we changed our mind and wanted to burry my fathers remains instead. We went back to get a burial permit and talk about a refund for the pendants as well as the overages on the incomplete memorial cards. Trying to get a professional response from these people is a kind stretch. This is currently a on going issue. If you can avoid this place I'd highly advise you to do so. Alma is short tempered and very rude when it comes to getting information. She doesn't seem to like to be asked too many questions. If there's anything that needs to be changed she's annoyed right away. She also misspelled my name on my Dads death certificate and made it seem as if I was to blame for her mistake when all of the documents had the correct information. Ken runs the show but in my opinion let William take over because he is more presentable and courteous. William is the most kindest person in this place. He worked with me on the memorial cards and was more than helpful with picking out the best layout. 1 star because of all the issues and horrible unprofessional service from Alma. As well as the long awaited refund that's over $600 that's still pending. read more

HORRIBLE!!!!!! The only reason I made a yelp account was to tell everybody not to use this place! It's smells horrible. Ken will not return your call. He will give you a date on when the ashes will be ready, and when you call to ask to pick them up he will tell you they haven't arrived. He told me to pick them up yesterday (last min by the way) I told him I would go today. I've been calling him throughout the day it's 515 and he hasn't returned my call. As if it wasn't enough that my dad passed away Ken has made this experience worse than it already was. I just want this place to be shut down. A loved ones death shouldn't be made worse by the negligence of these people. read more

Overall, I would say that I had a positive experience with Ken Davidson and North County Cremation Service. Everything was done in a timely manner at a reasonable price. My father was a WWII veteran and Ken was very helpful in getting the permit and necessary paperwork together for Miramar National Cemetery. read more

My girlfriend referred North County Cremation after my husband was diagnosed with cancer and had a only few days to live. I talked to Ken Davidson prior to his death and was very pleased discussing his services. We met at his office to receive a complete overview, plan the viewing, choose urns and have many questions answered. Ken did not have a problem when the viewing last longer than expected. Ken coordinated the cremation viewing at Options, So Cal Cremation in Lake Elsinore, which was very dignified, respectful and a good closure for me. There were no problems with death certificates. In fact, Ken stayed after hours so I could pick up the death certificates. I really appreciated everything Ken did to help ease the stress and sadness. read more

zero stars...they made me check one! attention !!! do not use this business !!!!!! my brother died nearly one month ago, to date, we still have no closure. his body was in the cremation building for nearly 2.5 weeks before i called to inquire what was happening, (no one bothered to call me to tell me there was an issue getting the death certificate signed by a doctor, i had to call them to ask what was going on). then i'm told because a doctor won't sign off, that they have to ship his body down to san diego for the coroner to give a cause of death. that took 3 more days. i called again after another 3 days without word, and was finally told his body was back and was finally being cremated. i was promised a call the very next day to confirm this fact, and of course they didn't bother to do that either. i called to complain and got the run around from their "exchange" office and the girl i was speaking to actually hung up on me!! great customer service. to date, jan 24th, 2012 my family still does not have closure. my brother died on dec 29th, 2011. this is unacceptable, and i pray that no one else has to go through this kind of inhumane treatment on top of the pain and suffering of losing a loved one. do yourself a favor and call the omega society instead. they are professional and caring and handle their business and customers with respect. something this place obviously is not capable of doing. read more

Since my husband suffered from Alzheimer's Disease Mr Davidson was able to help us with paper work and arrangements ahead of time. This was very helpful. When my husband passed away the gentleman who came to our home were expedient and very respectful. The urn we choose from Mr. Davidson was beautiful. All the necessary death certificates and paper work were attended to in a timely manner. Mr. Davdson also was very helpful in obtaining the Veteran's flag. If only I had read the reviews and seen the Turko Files expose before contracting with North County Cremation Services! I was told on 8/25 that it would be 1 1/2 weeks before my brother's cremated remains and death certificates would be ready. An autopsy was performed which usually requires a few more days, so after 2 weeks, I expected to pick up the remains and documents. In short, the remains were not ready until 9/30, over a month later. Ken Davidson tried to place blame for the delay on the physicians' refusal to sign the death certificate, but the physicians deny this story. Mr. Davidson is the wrong person to run this type of service. He operates on his own clock, and strung us along until he was threatened with our demands for a full refund unless he finished the task. If you want your loved one's remains to lie in a drawer for a month, use this business. I wouldn't trust him with a dead dog. read more
