Best liquor store in the Bay Area. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff and an outstanding selection at very reasonable prices. It's nice to find a place where the staff remember and recognize their regular/recurring customers and are quick to point out when they've gotten something new in stock that they think you're going to like. I also love that Tom is committed to providing high quality bourbons without playing any of the crazy games every other smaller family owned shop in Northern California seems to have fallen in to. Literally every other store I walk in to has decided to buy up all the highly allocated and hyped stuff and quadruple (or more) the MSRP in order to maximize profit without any concern for people who actually enjoy quality whiskey. Bourbon isn't supposed to be crazy expensive!! Tom makes sure they have an excellent selection of quality bourbon that doesn't require you to pay crazy inflated prices. It's a great store very nice people except the one I delt with this morning. He's very disrespectful and rude He did it infront of a vendor. I've been going there for 25 years I even worked there for a year after I retired. I've heard from other neighbors he's rude with them as well. You know why I like going in here? Because of their ever changing selection. You want the classics? Sure - they have them. You can almost always find an iced cold Pliny here but more than that - they also always seem to have the newest beers in there too. Finally found a place that's a couple miles from home that not only has a ridiculous selection of ale, but they appear to maintain a steady stream of one of my favorite ales of all time: Pliny The Elder from Russian River Brewing. Fans of this ale know that it's not typically easy to find. The selection in general is pretty impressive, though I wish they had a larger selection of magnums to choose from. Lots of four and six packs, but not a ton of single bottles. Overall a nice store and I'll definitely be back. read more

Thank you co-worker for turning me on to Plaza Bottle Shop for my stop-by-after-work place to find stouts and porters! Can always count on finding some Lagunitas and Drake's, but have also found many others, including an Anderson Valley Bourbon Barrel Stout, Ballast Point Victory at Sea Porter with Coffee & Vanilla, Midnight Sun Brewtality Espresso Black Beer (okay - not technically a stout), Black Flag Imperial Stout, Shipyard Signature Series Imperial Stout and Stone Farking Wheaton w00tstout (2015). And this was just two visits, my friends. On/off freeway access is super convenient, and parking lot makes it a breeze to get in and out. Plaza will earn their 5th star if they a) continue stocking a varying selection of stouts and b) carry more bourbon barrel aged stouts. Oh, and if they stalk a Goose Island stout, somebody message me and I'll leave my desk at work, my bed at home, my family at the dinner table - wherever I am - and fly down to buy it. *Update one day later* I had a stout tasting for friends Saturday evening with my purchases and the Stone Farking Weaton w00tstout was so outstanding that I drove down to SL Sunday morning and picked up 6 more bottles for the cellar. Gotta give these guys the bump up for having some very tough to find brews that my go-to BevMo doesn't even carry! Now, Plaza Bottle Shop isn't exactly the most glamorous liquor store by any means. In fact, "No frills" would be a bit of an understatement...ie. I wouldn't feel terribly comfortable here after sunset. But whether it's spirits, wines or beers, you'll more than likely find it here. Oak-aged Old Rasputin, Knee Deep's Hoptologist, Simtra and Hop Shortage, collaboration beerss between the likes of brewers including Stone and The Bruery...I felt like a fat kid in a candy store! Despite the less than stellar interior, the staff are as friendly as can be with big smiles and much willingness to help you find the right bottle. And being less than a five minute drive away, I'll be back again and again to make my way further into the beer horizon. read more

Seriously, wow. This place cannot get any better. First off - AMAZING selection of microbrews. I've been going to Bevmo this whole time to stock up on my craft beers, but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to say goodbye to them, and hello to Plaza Bottle. The owner (assuming he is) Jack is seriously the coolest guy. Extremely helpful, very polite & funny, and probably the most knowledgeable person I've ever met when it comes to different types of beer. He recommended me a few good ones and gave me a little background history on each, but not to the point where I was getting annoyed; he still gave me my time to shop/look around. He also informed me about a few upcoming local beer festivals and such, which was really nice of him. Their prices are just a tad bit more than Bevmo but it's well worth it; i'm saving money on gas by coming here instead of driving out to Pleasanton, right? I highly recommend this place. It's an awesome local store. The staff is very friendly, truthful, and they carry an excellent selection. I love small, local businesses like this, and I'm proud to support them. I called to see if they had crème de cacao. They didn't understand so I asked if they had any chocolate liqueur. They said yes they had Godiva and I said I'd be right in and they held it for me. It was bagged when I got there. I paid. I took it out of the bag at home and it was white chocolate liqueur. I called them again and said you sold me the wrong thing and I was bringing it back. When I got there he said I hung up before he could tell me they don't take returns on alcohol. It's a liquor store, so I assume that means they don't take any returns? They fucked up and even if they don't take the alcohol back, they should have refunded my money. Total waste of time and money. read more

This place is a BEER LOVERS HEAVEN! When I moved here, I randomly stopped in while feeling thirsty one hot summer night....and OMG! I thought I hit the jackpot! Tucked in the rear fridges are just about every kind of beer imaginable! They have locals such as Drake's and my other favorite Stella Artois.....YIPEE! Back in the late 1980s, a man walked in the Plaza Bottle Shop representing a company called SalCO. At the time, SalCO was one of the only distribution companies representing the growing micro brew market. Mind you this was during the time where Sierra Nevada, Wicked Pete's, Rouge, and Anderson Valley were up and coming brew bands, unheard of by most of the beer drinking populous. The man representing SalCO was able to convince the owner to bring in some of these brews, on the good faith it would be a good business move. The man from SalCO was my father. I am beyond happy to see what my father started back nearly 25 years ago has grown into an amazing craft beer selection. It may seem a little out of place for such a nice craft beer selection, looking at the clientele who comes here (the area has become kind of ghetto), but at least it's a spot where hop heads can come and find hard to find finds. Then there's the fact a few good friends from my childhood have worked here...always nice to catch up with them when I come in. read more

Minus one star because it's not the sexiest place in the world and it's not Bevmo! in terms of how many beers are available...however there are beers here you simply can't get at Bevmo! The beer selection is pretty dang awesome. Beers that are legendary like Pliny the Elder are available here. Stone Brewery is available here, Lagunitas, etc. Definitely worth coming in here if you want to try some new beer but don't want to drive all the way to Bevmo! in fremont. 49 years same look & the same fell about the Bottle Shop.. I lived on Oriole Ave for 19 years I moved away in 1986. I always walked by it on the way home from school when I went to Fairmont Elementary School back in the day.. My Dad ask the owner in the early 70's if he could have the Beer Signs to hang in his garage the owner & him cut a deal.. Really wish I had those Beer Signs today.. Mom always stopped there on the way home to buy her booze from there.. A few times I remember walking up to the Bottle Shop with a Note from my mom needed a pack of Lucky Strikes Cigarettes & she would give me some extra $$ for some gum or candy.. I grew up & went to school with Jake his Brother Joey Elwood on Oriole.. I live in So Cal today but everytime I am in town for a Visit I always go buy and say Hi and buy a coke etc. just for the Great Memories of the Bottle Shop !!! read more

I really like this place because I'm not much of a beer drinker which kinda sounds strange that I would come here. I do have friends who are and I do try them now and again. I also appreciate the ones I like. So why do I like this place? Because I can buy a bottle at a time so I get to try a bunch of them on a party night w/ friends. I can't go for the six pack or anything. If I don't like it, I hope my friends could finish it. I can't do onesies at BevMo so this is the place for me. The owners of this Bottle Shop are knowledgeable about their beer and carry some really good lables. This is a great place if you love trying new craft beers and imports. They've got Bay Area and Wine Country favorites like Drakes, Lagunitas and Russian River's Pliny the Elder (which they sell out of the day it's delivered). They've also got great imports from across the pond - Hobgoblin, Sticky Toffee Pudding Ale (so wrong, yet so right), Chimay, and a ton of German beers. They also have more IPAs than you can shake a stick at. Try them out - I'll take them over BevMo any day for beer. read more
