Went to this one a few times over the years. It used to be good, but not anymore. Before, it was an OK restaurant, then it went downhill. The service got worse, the products were dirty, and then the last meal I ate there was not only lackluster all-around, but eerily tasted like diapers. Great night for a quick date night!! The ambiance was intimate but also casual and families and friends were gathered enjoying themselves. The food is magnificent, superbly season and hitting all the taste points I'd been missing from a good Mexican meal. The fresh flaky fajita taco salad was the BOMB!! [Flavors on 1000]. If you're looking for delicious American style Mexican food, this Plaza Azteca is a great place to go! They provide you with chips, salsa, and white dip as well as free refills. Be careful though, they're so good it's hard not to just fill up on them. The menu is full of appetizers, quesadillas, salads, burritos, tacos, and enchiladas. Plus, they have a lunch menu with smaller portions at a discounted price. Trust me, the portions are still quite generous! I got the lunch size chicken fajitas and still had plenty of leftovers. My family also order the steak burrito and spinach enchiladas. We enjoyed every bite. Came here with family to see celebrate a birthday. The servers were super nice, attentive, and the wait for food wasn't long. The location is spacious and I like that their decor is consistent throughout the whole restaurant. The food itself is huge in portions, but I find myself extremely puzzled as to why they put a lot of these fix-ins on top of the burrito. It makes it super soggy and hard to eat, especially with a fork. To be honest, I mostly deconstructed my burrito because of all these reasons together. All in all, this place is pretty OK. read more

I had terrible stomach issues and diarrhea the morning after having dinner here, which I've never experienced from Mexican food before... not lactose intolerant or anything. I got the San Jose burrito with steak. Fine. My friend got the steak fajitas. She didn't love it, but it was fine. I got 2 watermelon margaritas. My friend got 2 strawberry daiquiris. Margs approx. $12-$15. Meals $15-$25. Free chips and salsa, but salsa was watery. Queso we ordered, also watery. Fair priced. Server was VERY attentive. We're gonna continue looking for a Mexican spot we like more. Overall do mot recommend. read more

It's been nearly 10 years since the kids and I have been here. It use to be our go to Mexican place when we lived in the area. I feel it's a bit "bougier" then the average Mexican place with a nicer menu and food presentation. The lunch portion was very generous and my daughter and I weren't able to finish everything( we big eaters too). Her burrito was full of carnitas. Maybe it was because if the delicious Horchata drink that filled us up a bit before the meal's arrival. The drink had a lot more ice then needed though. Their tomatillo hot sauce is the best of all the local places I have had. We came for a late lunch so it wasn't very busy, but this place use to be packed in the evenings. The kids really enjoyed it. The food was amazing! Hot, fresh and full of flavor. I hate it when my chips come out cold. They were hot fresh today!! The place was not crowded, which was pleasant. We waited till after the lunch hour rush to come and it made a gig difference. This place is always packed when I come and lunch doesn't afford me time to relax after I eat like after dinner. The place is always clean with no exception today. Staff was pleasant and patient while they waited for us to figure out what we wanted. The manager was going around chatting with the guests and stopped at our table, too! He gives you the feeling like your family. Really enjoyed that part!! I think his name is Johnny. Ask for him! Used to visit this place often for happy hour, but we weren't too happy this hour we visited. Came here for a late birthday celebration. First table, the bench was super wobbly. Second table, the table was super wobbly. Third table, all was well, haha. Queso is top tier! I actually love all of the options they have especially with the combinations menu when you can have a bit of everything. Couldn't find exactly what I wanted, so I just order a cheese quesadilla with rice and beans on the side which was easily accommodated. Major problem were the drinks. Ordered a strawberry daiquiri with pina colada and it just wasn't tasting right the first time. Sent it back and though it tasted better, it still wasn't hitting right. Still finished it though (of course). Our waitress was just okay. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit here again. 3.5 rounded down. read more

I ordered my food through doordash. I have a food allergy and I've always been able to put it in the box that asks for special instructions. This time I wasnt able to ( see picture below). The message says that the store does not allow for special instructions please call the store so I did after I placed my order. I called and said what I ordered and first the first breath this guy took it was to tell me that he wouldn't be taking any special instructions that it needed to be done on doordash. I tried to explain to him what was going on and he said he would do it this time but this is a big inconvenience and he's busy. I said I have an allergy and there's no place for me to put that on the app so my choices are to not eat at the restaurant or get sick? I asked him what I should do? He said it's your choice. I'm shocked that this was even an issue. I did exactly what the instructions asked me to do and then was reprimanded for it. I now no longer feel safe eating at this restaurant which is sad bc it's my favorite place to eat. The man's name was Roberto. We've eaten here so many time and the food is usually really good. When we got our omg nachos there was 4 nachos per container, the chips holding the ingredients were so soggy you couldn't pick the chips and our white sauce container was not even half full. I legit never met a Mexican meal I never liked. Up Until yesterday. Not our normal spot, but we ended here after Los Primos by the house ended up super poppin and told us we had about a 20 minute wait. We, mistakenly, decided to ride out to Cedar and give dinner a try here. We were seated and given drinks by the reasonably polite staff so quickly we hardly got a chance to enjoy the amusement park like decor. It was your run of the mill Mexican menu that you're definitely accustomed to seeing in the area. Except for the Playa Del Carmen prices! Almost felt like you were paying in pesos! The food was no bueno and tasted saltier than neighbors seeing pull up into your driveway with a new whip. Probably not coming back here anytime soon and going to stick with my amigos at Los Primos. read more

I have been to this Plaza location several times. It's always clean and the staff is friendly. I've enjoyed drinks and food from here. I like the fresh table side guacamole and the chips and salsa. However, my go to order is empanadas and the la flaka salad. It's always tasty and quick to arrive to my table. There are four assorted empanadas, chicken, cheese, and beef. I sometimes add shrimp to the la flaka salad. You can also add steak or chicken. read more

It had been a long time since I've visited a Plaza Azteca. And I have never been to this location. The restaurant choice was for a birthday celebration. Parking is ample, as the location is in a shopping center. The interior was clean and we were seated promptly. I'm a creature of habit when it comes to my Mexican Restaurant order. So it's quite easy to compare. A margarita on the rocks without salt, two crunchy tacos with rice and beans, and a tamale side.... That's my regular order. Of course the dinner begins with nacho chips served with white sauce or salsa. The chip beginning was a prelude of what was to come. The chips tasted "straight from the bag." They weren't warmed in the slightest. Mexican Restaurant quality can always be judged by the margarita. Mine didn't taste as if it had any tequila. Paying for a weak margarita isn't an inducement to return. But the worst problem was with the tacos. The crunchy shells tasted stale. It's really hard to mess up tacos. The rice, beans and tamale were good, standard fare. Unless someone plans another event at this location, this will be my last visit. read more

I'll start out by saying that while we were seated quickly, it took so long for a server to come take our drink order that my wife and I were thirty seconds away from leaving and going somewhere else. The restaurant was not overly busy, as it was around 6:30pm on a Wednesday. While the menu advertises a "happy hour", make sure you ask what that pertains to as we were charged full price for our margaritas. Next, you have to ask for a menu. I'm not sure why restaurants assume people want to scan a QR code and read a menu off of their phone. I generally don't touch my phone when I'm out on a date (and you shouldn't either), so make sure you ask if you are 'old school' and prefer to read off an actual menu. You know, the kind they have to clean and physically bring to your table. It was my first time here, so I decided to play it extremely safe-- or so I thought. I ordered the carne asada tacos. The presentation was good, quality of food was sub par. Extremely overcooked, dry carne asada (which needed a sauce or something to make them edible), boring black beans, and boring rice. For a place that charges a few bucks more for each entree than the other Mexican restaurants in Chesapeake, I expected better. I probably won't come back here. It took twenty minutes to get any service and the food wasn't very good. Plus, the drink specials suck. Make sure you ask beforehand what 'happy hour' means to them, cause we clearly have differing opinions. read more

Went here for dinner with a few good friends.. Chips & Salsa were free and we ordered the Fresh Table Side Guacamole which was actually pretty good. I ordered combo #13 which was a burrito,enchilada, and a chile rellenos. It was okay nothing really that special the chile relleno was covered in sauce so it was pretty much soggy the filling was just plain cheese nothing too exciting flavor wise. The enchilada and burrito tasted exactly the same considering the filling was exactly the same filling. The sauce that covered everything was actually pretty good i just wish everything didnt have the same texture it kind of all started to mix together where there weren't any distinct flavors. overall it was okay..most mexican places don't usually surprise me when I order simple dishes that come with beef. read more

It's been over 7 years since I've come here to eat. I'm so glad I came back! Hubby and I came here for dinner on a Wednesday evening. We were seated immediately. We were given those delicious chips and salsa ( don't forget the white sauce). Yummy! I ordered the Enchiladas Supreme. Ok, I have to mention the food came in less than 8 minutes. Crazy! How to review this place. Now if you're a drunk and like to consume alcohol and eat plant tasteless food then this place is probably for you. Now if you like food with any sense of flavor or seasoning do not go to this place. I am totally not kidding when I say Taco Bell has more flavor than the food at this place. I don't know how this place can be in business with the quality of the food the refried beans were bitter and gummy and had no redeeming qualities the rice was overdone boiled to a mush lacked any hint of distinguishable flavors think of rice paste with tomato juice. Enchiladas old dryed out tortillas wrapped around gristle meet that has been boiled and has zero texture or flavor. Think of a crappy taco thet got rolled up with a flavorless sauce poured over it that's an enchilada to them. So when you see the raving reviews of this place just know it's probably a bunch of drunks that are so drunk they don't know what they're eating or people that do not understand what quality Mexican food is. Even though we had specific instructions regarding there food. Since we ordered thru DoorDash we went back to them first then got told call resturant but were ask to get our Dasher to come back grab food.
