I'm not sure how the name of the bar relates to anything, as I didn't see any playboys, or cappuccinos........nonetheless, this dive bar is quite the friendly neighborhood dive bar. It's 'Cheers' on another level. I met Sam Malone, Norm, Carla (or maybe Rebecca), and others. It's a very friendly establishment, both by the employees and customers. It truly is a hole in the wall (and has a few in the ladies room). I had no qualms however, about eating there. I wouldn't wear my Sunday best, but felt comfortable in my every day clothes. The reason I was there didn't disappoint me. The fried shrimp was just about perfect. They were huge, meaty, tender; the steak fries were hot, and neither item was very greasy. Really liked the friendliness of this place. Someone else mentioned it being in the 'hood', but since I'm from out of town, I have no idea if that truly qualifies or not. I was there during the day and felt secure. My GPS took me around the Calvary Cemetery, which had some amazing tombstones visible from the road.

Playboy El Cappuccino is known for some of the best shrimp in town. This is a local favorite and the ULTIMATE dive bar. You will get characters from every walk of life in here. Comes loaded with loud music, Christmas lights all year long, electronic dart boards, jukebox, flat screens, and the old school pull knob cigarette machine. The food is cooked to order. I ordered the tilapia sandwich and it was HOT and Fresh. It came with pickles, onions, hot sauce and a slice of bread. It was great!

This place is now smoke free! They enforce it too... Also, the music wasn't too loud when I went by yesterday. I tried the catfish and shrimp combo and it was fantastic. It might be my new favorite. Don't let the neighborhood scare you, try this place! How can you be a true foodie if you won't go all over?

I discovered, The Lounge because I arrived super early for a wine tasting at another business in the plaza. My friend and I were immediately won over, when we saw the bar dog. Her name is, Lucy. I liked that the front window is tinted so you cannot see in, but once inside you can clearly see the outside. If you like to play slots while you sip your inexpensive cocktail, The Lounge has about 4 or 6 machines for you to play. If you do, good luck. Best of all, the drinks are super affordable aka "cheap". The bartender was friendly to us being newcomers. Seeing the rest of the patrons at the bar and every stool was full, you could tell they were regulars at this neighborhood watering hole. If I'm ever back in the area, I'd definitely stop by for a cocktail.

There is a generously sized bar and with a few high top tables along the side wall. There are several slot machines if you're interested in trying your luck! The bar offers your standard fare of beer, wine, mixed drinks and shots. They offer a few prepackaged snacks including chips and nuts. We were able to order a small pizza. They offer the Dog Town frozen pizzas. These are among my favorite pizzas. And it paired well with the ice cold beer. Our bartender was friendly and made sure we were taken care of.

My very first visit in April was cool, no issues. my next couple of visits, I had to wait over an hour for my tacos. OK no worries, I'm going back because I love the salmon tacos. But those ppl in there can be very rude. Once I had to wait for nearly an hour just for our order to be taken. The staff will walk past you, look you in your face and not speak. HUH??? I would go out of my way to speak to Lucky. He would walk by and say nothing. I feel as a bar owner or Manager, you should speak to eat person that walk thru your doors. but they all walk by and not speak. Two of the bartenders are so rude and unfriendly to some people. They smile and are nice to their friends but rude to new ppl from my experience. I always get 5 tacos and I get a different total each week. Not a whole lot but different. Oh yeah you may not get all of your change back. I was in there 9/2/25, I walk up to order my tacos, the young lady don't say anything to me, so I stand ther for about 4 minutes, she's right there in my face but says nothing. So after about 4 minutes I ask her if she's taking orders because she did say anything to me. So I walk over to place my order with someone else. Keep on mind everyone looks in your face but doesn't speak. so I wait for about 45 minutes after asking her how long would it take. 15 minutes she said. It probably was about 20 minutes which was fine but my food sat up on the back counter for 15 minutes before she realized it was my order. I literally watched my food for 15 minutes in the window. So she finally make eye contact with me, turn around and grab my food while trying to tell me it was had come up. I told her it had been up there for a while and the guy sitting next to me knew it too. The tacos sat there so long they were too soft to eat and enjoy. I noticed how the cooks walk around with kitchen gloves but touch everything outside of the kitchen. I've also watched the lemons and limes to be cut up without then being washed. Gross. I'm done with them. Food not bad, it's the service.

Hidden Gems in St. Louis -- and darling, the name is not exaggerating…read more I had the absolute pleasure of attending a birthday celebration here and let me tell you... this place is a vibe, a moment, and a whole sparkling experience. The space is intimate, stylish, and perfectly appointed -- the kind of place that feels like you've stumbled into a secret little jewel box in the city. It's cozy in the best possible way, with an atmosphere that invites laughter, celebration, and maybe just a little fabulous mischief. The bartenders? Absolute pros. Warm, welcoming, and clearly masters of their craft. Naturally, I ordered my classic gin and tonic, and it was perfection in a glass -- crisp, balanced, and exactly what a proper G&T should be. I heard from the birthday boy and his wonderful wife that the owners were incredibly accommodating, and you could feel that hospitality throughout the entire evening. Everything felt effortless and welcoming -- the kind of place where people clearly care about creating a great night. And then... the party truly began. We had drag queens serving glamour and joy, music, laughter echoing through the room, and pizza delivered from the birthday boy's favorite local pizza spot that honestly deserves its own standing ovation. If you want to know where that pizza came from, drop a comment -- because it was outrageously good. By the end of the night I couldn't stop thinking: this place really is a Hidden Gem. A perfect little pocket of St. Louis where good drinks, great people, and a bit of fabulous chaos come together. Sparkle-tastic. Gem-tastic. Pure joy. Highly recommend discovering this hidden gem for yourself. -- Big Daddy Tedd Energy

Still in love with Hidden Gems and everything it has to offer! The bar itself is such a fun spot…read more The décor is playful and whimsical, and the dance floor is always a good time. The upstairs lounge is perfect if you want to hang out with friends or just take a break and rest your feet for a bit. I absolutely love that space and how comfy it is. One of the biggest perks of Hidden Gems is their back room, which allows them to host events and fun pop-up experiences. I've been to a few, and most recently attended the "Taylor Swift: Bejeweled" experience. The space was decked out in all things Taylor, with every era clearly represented. Giant friendship bracelets hung from the ceilings and lined the walls, which was such a fun touch. And of course, there were plenty of photo ops with my close personal bff, Taylor herself! The drink menu was themed to match the eras, with tons of creative options. My friends and I tried several cocktails, along with a few NA options as well. I really appreciate that they offer non-alcoholic drinks as I've been cutting back on alcohol over the past few months, and it's nice to still have fun choices that actually taste good! The Mirrorball was easily my favorite drink of the night. It tasted just like an orange creamsicle and was served in a disco ball...so good and so fun. My last drink of the night was "So Long London," which was almost like a dessert in a glass. Highly recommend ending your night with that one!
