I know it primarily because it is the halfway point on my evening run. I always stop and take a look at the view, which in my opinion is magnificent. In fact the Bird Nest is ALL about the view from the patio. You can see from Marina del Rey, to the West (see photo I posted) and Century City, to the East. The spot is truly inspiration point. The next time you are visiting the LMU campus be sure to take the time to visit the Bird Nest and soak in the view.

For some reason, either right before I…read moregraduated from LMU or right afterward, it became a big deal for people who worked for Student Center Facilities or whatever department to refer to this swingin' remnant of the '70s as Bird Nest rather than Bird's Nest. Whatever. This weird clubhouse-like structure will be familiar to anyone who grew up in the '70s or '80s in California. It seems that every place near a beach or a pool had some wooden building with dark windows, a loft, and a conversation pit. LMU's Bird's Nest, or Bird Nest, is no different. I attended many a campus event here, and all of them were disappointing. OK, that's not exactly true. Many of them were wonderful, but Bird's Nest never really lived up to its '70s hype. The loft was always kind of sad, and the conversation pit, while definitely not sad, just never did the best job of maintaining conversations. I will say, however, that it was cool that during pre-orientation my freshman year they had Dazed and Confused on loop here during a mixer. I didn't really watch the movie, and I actually really didn't enjoy this mixer, but this movie and the feelings I had were very appropriate. The Bird's Nest was much cooler when it had a swimming pool next to it. They took that out either in the late '90s or right around 2000. When I was at LMU, it was a tradition that you were thrown into a body of water on your birthday. Most people got thrown into the Foley Pond, which is scary because it's really really really shallow so if you struggled at all you were likely to get hurt. If you had a nice friends, they would throw you into the Bird's Nest's pool. I was one of the throwers once, and the lead thrower counted 2 twice, so I let go of the girl's arms while he held onto her legs. She wasn't injured, but I felt really bad.

They offer a beautiful space that can be transformed into just about anything with state-of-the-art A/V systems and screen projections. They are able to offer many things in-house that you would otherwise have to find with outside vendors. Their kitchen is top-notch and the bartenders know how to make your guests happy. They are flexible and easy to work with from the first moment you meet them. On top of all that, their prices are reasonable and the quality you get back is worth what you pay. Unacceptable: Racism, verbal abuse, and physical aggression from staff…read more I had a terrible and completely unacceptable experience at Candela La Brea. Due to an Uber address mix-up, we ended up at this location by mistake. Upon arriving near closing time, we just asked if we could come in for a drink as we believed this was a bar: After being told it was a private event, I calmly tried to explain our Uber mistake. Instead of handling the situation professionally, a female staff member completely lost her temper. She started screaming at us, talked to us terribly, and physically aggressed us and telling us to go away. Given the unprovoked hostility and the way she treated us, I strongly believe her behavior was racially motivated because we are not from America. She tried to physically attack us. Her actions were so completely out of line and unwarranted that even several guests from the private event came over to apologize to us for her deplorable conduct. No one should ever be subjected to discrimination, verbal abuse, or violence over a simple misunderstanding. I highly advise avoiding this place, customer service, safety, and basic respect are completely nonexistent here. To make matters worse, I didn't even say a word to provoke her, she completely misdirected her anger at us just because of other people standing nearby. Being targeted, screamed at, and pushed when you haven't done or said a single thing is completely unhinged. She literally screamed right in our faces: "Hell no! Get the fuck out of here!"

So the subtitle of this place says "Filipino inspired pizzas"…read more.. I arrived around 7:30 on a Tuesday night for some pizza and a beer. Based on Yelp reviews and pics which showed the pizza. Ready to go all in on the Jeepney (out of curiosity. I've never actually been to the Philippines, so wouldn't have been able to judge). Bartender says, "um. We're pretty low on food" and proceeds to cover the entire bottom half of the menu (which is the pizza), leaving only the bar bites as available. So: heated up frozen pretzel was solid. And hot when delivered. The beer was tasty. Could prob warrant a fourth star for the space. But since I walked almost two miles for the pizza, and now have to solve separately for dinner, pretty disappointed. So was gonna do three stars. But Todd (the bartender) was super nice at the end, gave me the back story (busy weekend = no pizza), so redeemed the fourth star. Will prob go back to try the pizza. Just not on a Tuesday.

Sorry y'all...I don't always make it to dessert so no comment on that. But I have seen some make the rounds and they do look tasty! On the drinks...plenty to choose from their well stocked supply. The Old Fashion is my go to drank! Dirty Martini does the job too. But that's how I roll. Overall: From the staff to the decor of the dining area, all being top notch. It was like the coolest venue and people would come in with these great ideas and completely decorated and it would look different every single time you'd go to the space I saw that the sign says it is up for rent so it is permanently closed, but the business still throws parties just I think they usually use the Mondrian. UC would throw these epic themed parties... I live in walking distance so I would take a roadie and walk on over and it was always something fun like a Brazilian Samba night they had Coachella Chic, and WWD Fashion Week. I loved getting all dressed up and then you know, taking pictures of the step and repeat and meeting so many different people from all over... it's not the same at the Mondrian first of all I have to get there. I can't just walk to the Mondrian and there's just something about the parties that is just not the same so this event space was amazing. I see it's for rent now. I can't imagine how much it would cost to rent out that space and have it full. At least every other weekend to make your rent. I don't know if any of it is non-for-profit I have no idea but it's gotta be a big chunk of changed to rent that space cause it's a really big space. It goes way back. You can't tell how big it is from looking at it on the street so I will always have my fond memories of this place and hopefully they find a different space to open.

Located off of Jefferson boulevard in Culver City, this place is one of a kind. My first impression was its an art gallery converted to a music venue. While everything else in the area is a beach bar, this is hand down the coolest spot in town. It's often hard to find street parking, so I find it super convenient that they have a valet. The owner Michael is incredibly nice, and from the bouncers to the bartenders I couldn't find a single negative thing to say about their amazing staff. Culver City PD actually runs their security so you feel safe and sound while dancing to top DJs from around the world. I've attended their Rose and Lace parties where they often have aerial acrobatics and beautiful dancers in elaborate costumes. This lace party they actually had the Love Bus with a DJ on top in the back yard. This place never ceases to amaze me.

Super friendly, responsive, and genuinely cared about making our day special. He even made sure we had a bridal suite accommodation, which was so helpful on our wedding day. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the venue was and how smooth the whole day went. From the setup to the flow of the evening, everything felt seamless. From the moment we booked, Joe (the owner) and his entire team were unbelievably accommodating, professional, and easy to work with. Their communication was seamless from start to finish, and they made the entire planning process stress-free. The venue itself is absolutely stunning. The indoor-outdoor rooftop layout with bi-fold doors, gorgeous lighting, and incredible views created the perfect atmosphere. We hosted 120 guests, but the space can easily accommodate up to 200 people, making it ideal for Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, milestone birthdays, corporate events, and any private party. One of the biggest advantages of The Palm Sophia is its versatility. We brought in our own vendors, including a kosher caterer, and the staff generously allowed full use of their fully equipped kitchen. They also offer valet parking, onsite security, heaters, and were even willing to tent the outdoor space if the weather turned, which gave us tremendous peace of mind. They have tables, chairs, and staff available to help with setup, which saved us so much time and coordination. Every guest commented on how beautiful and unique the venue was -- almost none of them had been there before, and everyone was blown away. This venue is truly a hidden gem in Culver City. I honestly can't believe more people don't know about it. I brought it into Rolling Greens and met Jeannette at the orchid bar in the back of the store. I vaguely told her what I wanted, white orchids, this high. She took over. I picked it up this morning and it exceeded our expectations. She is beyond talented, so artistic! She took my dream and made it real! She does both live plants and faux (mine is faux because I don't have that talent, but you do you, and yes, those are faux!). Instead of sending someone a bouquet that won't last, go in and see Jeannette. Maybe she'll make your dreams come true too...
