She made us feel like we were home. The atmosphere of the Catbird Seat B&B was everything we needed that weekend. The decor looked like it was out of a magazine....stunning! Elizabeth prepared a delicious country breakfast that made me want more. She treated us every afternoon with a refreshing pitcher of ice tea that I could not get enough of. Fabulous stay at the McKenzie River Round house! Sharon accommodated our last minute request and…read morearranged for us to arrive well after dark. We had a third person, so the provided a futon mattress for us to use. We had the top room that has the view and the deck. The room was huge, nicely furnished and stocked with snacks, water and toiletries. The breakfast was seriously amazing. Totally, beyond expectations. We had crustless quiche, fresh strawberries, potatoes, bacon, fresh juice, fresh coffee, Im probably forgetting something else. This was a great location for us, on our way back from Bend, but wanted to still go to the hot springs nearby. Price was reasonable for what we were getting too. We really enjoyed chatting with Sharon and her husband and hearing about the history of the Round House. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend the McKenzie River Round House to anyone needing a little R&R away from home.

Sadly, I think he is the husband of the gal who manages the place and he is part of the care taking crew. So how does one man take a 4-5 star potential experience down to a 2-star stay? First impressions ... Here's what happened - and I am not going to go into all the detail here but give you enough to know to stay away from the troll! First - we drove from Northern California to get here - and showed up a little (1 hr.) early before check in. We had been "warned" to not attempt to check in early ... BUT we had no where to go and we had to get out of that car and get our groceries into a fridge. So we (and when I say we, it was myself, my sister, and my mother - all went to the office to plead with them to allow us to at the very least hang around and "maybe" get our food in a fridge. I, personally felt that was an easy request which should/could have been accommodated without any difficulty. BOY, was I wrong!! After knocking on the door to the office several times, he (the guy) almost refused to open it, and when he did it was a mere crack to barely show his face. Here's how it went down. Him: Yes? (note - no greeting - no hello) Us: ... silent because we had to scoop our jaw up off the ground to respond ... Him: YES!? Us: ... Oh, sorry, is this the place to check in? Him: YES!? What do you want? Us: ... again silent - we were in shock! Him: (repeating himself) What do you want? Us: ... oh well we know we aren't supposed to request to check in early (admission of true facts!) but is there any way we can just get the paperwork and charges out of the way? We just drove a long way and want to get this taken care of. Him: There is no early check in. Us: Yes, we understand that - but we have perishable items and we are happy to "take a hike" and get out of your hair for a while - if we can at least get our items into our fridge. That's enough ... I think you get the picture. RUDE - so rude that the word rude is actually not sufficient for his behavior. I was completely flabbergasted. Here's the bottom line - he doesn't do check in; he clearly doesn't have much contact with guests - for a reason. Keep him out of the office and never let him open the door. Or at the very least - teach him how to greet guests and kindly inform them that the office person will be back shortly. There was absolutely no reason he had to be so RUDE! We were paying customers - and last time I checked - they are NOT the cheapest location along the McKenzie River. This first impression set the tone for the entire weekend - SADLY - because we were there for a family member's wedding celebration. PROS: - Cabins - Nicely appointed cabins with all the amenities - the things we brought because we thought we'd need them - we didn't. - Location - Beautiful grounds well manicured/maintained and to be on that river was exceptional. - Family - I was there for a family event which took place over the course of 3-days and it is because of them - that I didn't leave. CONS: - The TROLL who should never have contact with humans - EVER! - Early check in policy - stinks for out of town travelers. Time your arrival accordingly or you might meet the TROLL! - Price - not sure you get what you pay for at this place considering my first impression. - Wi-Fi - not free. I can't see myself ever returning to this place - I would rather stay up or down the road and hope for a better experience.

I forget which cabin we rented, but it had 4 bedrooms, 2 stories and 3 bathrooms. The layout was a little weird as one of the couples had to tromp through another couple's bedroom to get to the kitchen, but it worked out. We went fishing (caught a ton of trout after seeing a good fishing spot rafting), rafting, beer tasting in Eugene (twice, didn't make it to Bend), and ate outside on the porch every night. It was the perfect getaway for us! Looking forward to all coming back here again when we have kids!

I was looking for a last minute weekend getaway for my one year wedding anniversary and I'm glad I found this! This was our first glamping experience and it was wonderful. The tipi's were so cute and comfortable. They all have stone floors, a queen sized bed and lamps! All you have to bring are your clothes, they provide bedding and towels! We stayed plenty warm at night, and I am always cold! One tipi has a firepit inside, I hope we can get that one next time! There's also a large one that has two queen beds in it and can sleep up to about 8 people if you wanted! There are two bathrooms, each with a toilet, sink and shower. Our tipi (Sacagawea) was the farthest tipi, but the distance to the bathroom was not bad at all! Even at night, the trail between tipi's and to the bathroom is lit with lights so you really don't even need a flashlight (we forgot one)! Did I mention there's a hot tub?! It's a built in hot tub made of tile. It's quite a good size. Our last night there we had 8 people in it! Bugs were not really a problem like I thought they would be. We didn't see a single bug in our tipi, even with the top flap open so we could see the stars! And believe me, I am not a bug person! They provide a great breakfast, included in your stay! Pancakes, oatmeal, bread, fruit, eggs, yogurt, potatoes, lox, cheese... And of course coffee and tea! You can pay extra for dinner, which was amazing as well. We had grilled salmon, veggies and rice the first night. The second night we had a Spanish paella. Ken so kindly accommodated everyone's diet restrictions leaving things out for those who requested. They do not serve alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own beer and wine. No hard liquor though. This is such a great place to getaway from city life. It's so peaceful. There are plenty of sitting areas throughout the property as well as several hammocks, which we took a siesta in before dinner! The creek runs along the edge of the property which is so calming to hear and you can walk/play in it. They do have wifi, but it only works close to the main building, which is where the meals are served. No one seemed to mind about the lack of Internet since we were all looking for an escape from reality. Tipi village is a gem. I cannot wait to return with friends next time! I recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax and get away from life, even if you don't like the outdoors, this is very comfortable glamping!
