The refuge is accessed via many different roads and parking lots. I recommend checking out their maps online. I really enjoy walking the Rail Trail, which includes a boardwalk through a forest that seasonally floods. Very cool. When I visited here in late October, it was the driest I've ever seen it. I didn't see another person and it was very restorative to just walk in silence and solitude. I am excited to visit the new nature center, their website says it will be open January 2022.

Nos. 2-7 meander out and into the humid park air. No. 1 returns, and No. 2 heads for the Bucket. Then No. 3. Nos. 4-7 stare at each other with icky faces, and when all have returned with Purelled hands, we stand in a circle next to one of the cars. Quiet. Awkward. We jump from face to face and then stare at our shoes. The other car, with its door open, and we listen to Stevie Nicks. A tan and perky lady walks by...she's inevitably going to share the germ-invested fate of 1-3. "How's the Honey Bucket?" she asks, and laughs. "Well," says No. 4, "it's always better with Fleetwood Mac."

Okay time @ Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon, OR…read more Even though the path around Cheadle Lake is clean and wide, I would not recommend this area. The path is lined with blackberry bushes, and that equals to massive amounts of vines with thorns. There are also limited areas where dogs could safely sniff around in green space, but doggy bags and trash cans are available. This is, however, a great place for people to fish. We saw 3-4 small groups of people casting their lines to fish. There are also informational plaques throughout the trail about the wildlife, inhabitants, and history. I stopped here one time before, but did not get out of my vehicle to enjoy this area because there were a couple people walking their dogs with no leash and many others just sitting in their cars, which made me feel uneasy.

I found Green Peter Reservoir on the map and decided to drive out to see what it was like. The…read moredrive out to Sweet Home and then out to Green Peter is beautiful. You drive through expansive green farm lands, past cute farm houses and then into the trees on a windy road out to the reservoir. Sweet Home is the last town you hit before you drive about 15-20 minutes to the reservoir. Since there was recently a big storm, there was still a lot of debris in the pull off areas and some of the trails down to it. We ended up parking next to a big bridge that people were fishing off of and making our own trail down to an area by the water. It was at an incline so not the best spot for kids but it was just fine for us. It was so quiet out there besides the sounds of boats every so often and a couple cars here and there. The was was gorgeous but still very cold. The sun was shining and the air was nice and crisp! I'm not sure what parks are around here, we did see one campground on the way there but wanted a spot more private. We saw a lot of cars pulled over in random spots so there must be a few secret spots around this reservoir. We didn't drive around the whole thing but it was a fun adventure and an absolutely beautiful place to go.

A Beautiful Return to a Place Full of Nature and History…read more Both my wife and I had visited this spot before when we lived in the area, so with a little time to spare before lunch nearby, we decided to revisit it with her son and daughter-in-law. Nestled on a forested butte just east of the University of Oregon in Eugene, this area is absolutely stunning. The rhododendron garden is especially beautiful, offering a peaceful and scenic escape that feels tucked away from the city. Beyond its natural beauty, the area is steeped in history. One of the most notable connections is to Steve Prefontaine--a legendary runner and seven-time NCAA champion for Oregon. He trained in and around Hendricks Park and tragically passed away in a car accident on a winding road just below the park. His legacy lives on not only in the running world but also in the early success of Nike, where he became the brand's first sponsored athlete and helped elevate it to global prominence. Whether you're a nature lover, a history buff, or just looking for a quiet place to explore, this area is well worth a visit.

The other thing that I've seen as they were even taking care of place you had to go with somebody cause of all transients who moved around the outside this place and made it there homes.
