There's so much choice I just got bogged down with ah that sounds nice, and that, and that but I couldn't have it all and I couldn't decide. Everything's freshly made with salad of the days and a deli bar which had things like stuffed peppers and risotto today. The cakes looked so pretty and of course tasted amazing. We went for a strawberry cheesecake, truly decadent. There's hot and cold drinks, juices, fresh smoothies and refreshing health drinks too. I spied a bottle of leffe in the fridge too. Refresh also meets your all your dietary needs, with all types of bread including gluten free and veggies are not short of choice. I definitely recommend Refresh, was really nice to sit in the sun with the few tables outside the place and feast on my quiche, cake and smoothie. Yum

Then, my friend, like me you have met your delicious nemesis in the form of Refresh. People travel to Refresh. It's worth it. When I was introduced to this place by a long-time customer, I was told , 'I'm taking you to Refresh for the best sandwich of your life.' Needless to say I was sold. I wasn't sure what to expect, and as soon as we pulled up outside the delightfully tiny and quaint café, I knew we'd come to the right place. There's only space for about three or four couples to sit in, but luckily we arrived just before the lunchtime rush. The queue began to snake out of the door as we waited for our order and I realised that it was a mixture of suits, locals, people with little ones... this was a great little slice of Didsbury life. I was completely bowled over by the menu. You can get EVERYTHING here. Not only is it a deli with fresh baked bread, coleslaw, sundried tomatoes, olives and the like on offer, but you can get any sandwich, any salad, any cake, any smoothie, any ice cream, any biscuit, any soup, any wrap, any filling on any kind of bread, any hot pot, any curry... I think you get the idea, because if I see the word 'any' one more time I think I'll go cross-eyed. Anyway (AGH!) I chose one of the 'warm salads' over a sandwich in the end, and boy am I glad I did. My plate was piled high with chargrilled courgettes, peppers, red onion amid a bed of shredded carrot and lettuce with thin sliced cucumber. I ordered a side of homemade coleslaw as it's my weakness, and it was delicious. It's incredible that only one person was behind the counter yet we didn't have to wait long. Service came with a smile and was prompt and professional, and the food was nothing short of amazing. In fact my friend even ordered a chocolate dipped fruit flapjack for afters which we shared, and think about it - one rarely gets excited about a flapjack. It is what it is what it is. It's one of those standard sweet treats. Well, this one was worth screaming about. I wanted to tell the world how good this flapjack was. From the nearby Didsbury rooftops. Refresh deliver (metaphorically and literally), you can place orders by phone, they cater, they make bespoke cakes for weddings and birthdays and the like; they even sell fabrics, gifts and trinkets. Is there anything they don't do? Well, no actually. They even stock Diet Sunkist, one of my favourite soft drinks which I can't find anywhere. I didn't want to leave. Even as I was leaving I was planning my next visit. Refresh is brilliant, and its huge amount of fans will be very quick to tell you this. Please go.

Together with Belgium waffles and ice cream We also booked a bar through a local company, an Xbox van, plus entertainment for the children including a Christmas teddy etc. I text the mobile number I was given at 9am in the morning and had no response, at 10.30am I rang the number and woke the guy up, he sounded rough and hungover. I explained who I was and that I was getting worried and wanted to check he was coming to our event and what time who would arrive. He told me he was planning on leaving at 1pm to get to us and was around an hour away. At 3.30pm I was getting extremely worried as my guests where arriving at 5pm and I'd heard nothing, I rang twice and got no answer, this was causing me and my family stress and you can imagine. I got a call back to say he was having trouble with the lights on his trailer and was trying to fix them since 11am! I asked why I had not been informed of this so I could have at least tried to sort something out, he said he had been trying to fix the problem and was now waiting for the AA who were arriving at 5.10pm ! The first thing I did was phone the head office number and got an answer phone! The guy offered me no contingency plans, my guests all arrived hungry expecting the food I'd told them they were getting on the party invites At just before 6pm he told he wasn't coming, I was shocked as I'm sure anyone would be, imagine if you had booked for your wedding! I have got my money back and was sent flowers and chocolates and the offer of a voucher to go out for dinner! That's it, the party cost us almost £5,000 and was ruined by their lack of service and I have been offered no compensation towards my costs and the stress of not being able to feed my guests I want everyone to know about this because it's unacceptable and I've never experienced service like this before, we host 2 or 3 big events a year and I have never not had a catering company turn up We will stick to local in future, how can such a large company let us down so badly? Please beware before you book with them

The canapes were very nice, they were exactly what we ordered, but the sandwiches that we ordered had nuts in the bread, this was despite the fact that in a meeting with Sue we stressed we had dietary requirements, and I the Groom, has a serious nut allergy. This was very annoying however we made our complaint and the next round of cakes came out, they were very nice and there was more than enough, however the plates came out with Florentines which were mainly almonds. This was not what we ordered, it was not in the menu we agreed on, it was not in the contract. When I questioned Sue on 20/08 in a phone call, there was no actual apology or what I would consider an apology. There was complete denial over the conversation regarding nuts, Sue refused to speak to us in person at her premises and insisted that we go to the wedding venue instead, Sue believes it is our fault for not informing the venue even though she was contracted for the catering and the venue has no power in this situation. This part is totally bizarre, I have spoken to the venue and they are clueless about the actions of Sue Le Bonne. Sue did however remember that one guest has a cherry allergy and promised that this individual would get plain scones, in the end he ended up with no cherry (as did everyone else) unfortunately he suffered from nuts allergies and received the same nutty bread and Florentines too. Sue made it clear that she did not know, however she also made it clear that the Florentines were in a separate box and there was no cross contamination, but why do you need to worry about cross contamination if you know don't know about the nut allergy??? Please note that the above information is based on fact which can be proved with documentation and a recorded phone call.

The slightly unassuming Beech Inn, Chorlton, is Jackie and Barbarella's (the very cool Silver Bullet trailer all the food is served out of) full time home and parked up in the beer garden. Food is ordered from the hatch and can be eaten either in the beer garden or, thankfully (because Manc doesn't have the climate of California unfortunately), inside the pub. The menu consists of a number of regular dishes such as pad thai, dal, beef rendang and jungle curry as well as regularly changing specials to keep you on your toes. Having tried pretty much all the food at various times I can quite happily proclaim everything to be amazing. The ingredients are all locally sourced where possible and the meat and fish are higher welfare, something that is very important to Jackie. Everything is freshly made and the flavours are just fantastic, a true sign of the passion in Jackie's cooking. The food is also exceptional value with dishes such as the rendang (one of my favourites) priced at around the £6.50 mark with the portions being pretty darn generous. Don't wait until summer, this is definitely a year round beer garden treat!

My favourite is the lentil dal and even though the chef is vegetarian meat eaters are well catered for here. The beef rendang, which comes various ways including over rice, with flatbread or in a bun as a sloppy joe, is delicious. If you really like heat then ask the staff for extra fresh red chilli on top, they will happily oblige. It's not always on but the chai latte is warming and delicious so make sure you order it if it's available. A trip to this trailer for an authentic street food experience is something you just won't get anywhere else in South Manchester. The owner has travelled extensively across Asia and it really shows in the food. It's not like anything I've tasted in a restaurant in the UK. Follow them on one of their social media accounts to see the weekly menu.
