Walking in, we were greeted. The store was organized. Those are pluses to me. It was an ok experience. 1 of the ladies did seem a bit agitated when I asked to try on jeans 35 mins before closing, but I let her attitude roll off my back. I ended up finding a few pairs of jeans for myself & a Lululemon top. My son got a pair of jeans as well. I spent $60+ & then the cashier asked if I wanted to purchase a bag. Umm, NO thanks. 0/5 Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time bringing clothes here again. We brought FIVE bags total -- 2 huge trash-bag-sized bags and 3 other decent-sized bags, with one of those bags full of shoes. Somehow they were "finished" looking through EVERYTHING in about 15 minutes. Then we were told basically nothing was good because the clothes were "outdated," "too mature," or "not in season." That explanation made no sense to us because we literally brought clothes for every season -- summer, fall, winter, and spring -- plus an entire bag of shoes. I understand Plato's Closet is selective. I wasn't expecting them to buy every single thing or even most of it. But 5 bags of clothes and shoes being completely evaluated in around 15 minutes felt ridiculously rushed. It genuinely made us question how thoroughly everything was even looked at. The worst part isn't that they didn't buy anything. It's that we spent the time gathering everything, packing it, bringing 5 bags into the store, and waiting just for the whole thing to feel rushed and dismissed. Definitely a 1-star experience for me. I'd rather donate the clothes than go through all that again. read more

I gave selling there another go and it's gotten worse. They bought one item for 5 bucks which was an oversized jacket from Target, whereas they told me that the Levi Jeans that haven't been are "outdated" while almost selling scuffed up converse for 60 dollars. You really can't make this shit up. The prices have gone up, the quality hasn't, and the workers, although a couple are kind are still mostly mean-spirited and gossipy. They'll ignore you at best and talk bad behind you at worst. read more

Not a fan of this particular Plato's Closet. I've been to locations across several states and this one is probably the worst to date. I don't mind laid-back employees, but I do mind employees who make you feel like you are interrupting them when you come in. This place takes it wayyyy easy, put it that way. The check in process to sell clothes was easy, no complaints there. They didn't take too long to process it either since the place was nearly empty. I was surprised how many downscale brands filled their shelves, considering they are supposed to be selling nicer stuff. If you pack your store full of Gap and Old Navy, that's a big red flag to me. Not a lot of menswear to speak of. This was especially the case when I went back to complete my buy. Of two large tubs of clothes I brought in (all upscale brands), they wanted a whopping five items. The few items they did want they gave me a pittance for. $5 for a like new Michael Kors hoodie? Ridiculous. I left with $23 and most of what I brought in. That's more than if I donated it, but still a waste of my time to come in the first place. They aim to appeal to buyers and sellers, but if they have nothing worthwhile to sell and no interest in buying quality items, why waste time? Donate your stuff and hit a thrift store instead. Overall: 1.0 star ----- Pros: - Handled the buying process quickly... Cons: -...Mostly because they barely looked it over enough to find five items they saw easy money on. - Customers seem like an inconvenience to staff members. - Selection (especially for men) is quite poor. Went in on 2/6/23 in the evening. There was a girl in a blue sweatshirt working there that was beyond rude. Brought in bags of clothes and she said for me she would "put on her nice voice" after rolling her eyes at me walking in. In general, most of the employees there are unfriendly. There was not one person that said hello when I walked in, just the girl that turned to her coworker annoyed I was there and went from her regular 'annoyed with customer' voice to a fake annoyed 'nice' voice to attend to me. Plato''s Closet must really hate their customers. Snotty attitudes selling used clothing. Repeat: used clothing. Saks has nicer employees. read more

Don't bother bringing any womens clothing to this store unless it can pass for a medium or smaller. I watched as the girl behind the counter "assesed" the clothing and all she did was look at tag size and never inspected the actual item itself. I brought name brand clothing with tags still on that would be flattering on any young woman who is full thickness and/or has a larger bust size than her friends the same age but I was told these items dont fit within the demographics for this particular store. It's a shame that we are still dealing with this kind of body image problem these days. read more

Literally the slowest workers I've ever experienced. I wish I could give them a negative amount of stars. Dropped my clothes off as soon as they opened. I was the second person in line. They told me 30 min. I didnt hear back so I called them and they told me they got busy... so it would be another hour/ hour and a half until my clothes were ready. I told them I needed to be somewhere soon and asked if they could speed it up a bit and she said no. Then I called back after another hour for an update and she added more time to the wait. It's not even worth the chump change they give you for your clothes..needless to say I will never be returning. read more

Plato's Closet West Broad st has me SHOOK. they posted some little purse on their Instagram and I googled it because $30 seemed too much for the bag. Well it's selling new on amazon for $20 with free shipping I told them and they told me it's a "hot trend" and they saw it online for $30 so they think they can sell it for $30. If it's used and has been worn and at someone's house been touching who knows what WHY do you think you can sell it for the SAME PRICE NEW. even though it's literally $20 online they said "it's not a rip off we think it will sell for $30" to me telling them they are ripping people off. I didn't want the purse I was just curious and even if I did I'd def get it on amazon for $10 cheaper NEW. Update : the owner or whoever runs the Instagram asked if I wanted to put the purse on hold to buy after I said it's a rip off and not fair to sell it for more stop Don't to me for they can't keep up with their buy process. They are always stopping early. It should take 15 minutes for 1 tote to get done. Hire more people or how about you Lori come clock in and work to ensure your customers aren't directed to other businesses like UPTOWN CHEAPSKATES right down the road. I've worked in a establishment like this. I know what should be happening and stopping guys at 12pm,3pm or whatever time almost every other day should not be happening. Don't bother selling here, I watched the girl chat with her friend while not even looking at the clothes and just shoving them back in my bags. They passed on kylie swimsuit new with tags, new lulu leggings, tons of brand name men's clothes and picked out a tee shirt from five below to buy. the shopping experience is worse, it's so unorganized and everything is shein and stained. Go down the road to uptown cheapskate for all your needs. the girls working here are terrible at their jobs and have such snobby attitudes. read more

So i've been here a few times in the past several years. The ONLY reason why I go is to sell my clothes to them.. not sure why else you would come here. haha. If you come during peak times like right before lunch or in the afternoon the wait time can be LONG, like around 2 hours. What I usually do is drop off my clothes in a bag and run a few errands and come back and they're usually done. You can either get cash for your clothes or trade in for a gift card. The employees are young (high school and or in college) so they have a pretty laid back vibe going on. On most occasions, I get less than what I am expecting so come in here with low expectations. I think the most I ever got was like 17 bucks for a bag full of clothes that I thought were kinda trendy, but Platos Closet told me it was last season's style.. burn.. Lines get a little awkward as there is no indication as to where they start and people keep walking through them. P.s.- if you wanna make a feel bucks, then yeah bring it here. But don't be surprise if you get less than 10 bucks back when you gave them a $100 worth. read more

Uhhhh... There is not a lot of quality stuff here and I feel like everything is over priced for what you are getting. They just have a lot of stuff that are not really great. I feel like you can buy some of the stuff brand new at the price they are charging. Also, when you sell to them they only give you 1/3 of the selling price, which I think is wayyyy too low. They don't take appointment to sell though, which is a plus because you can take your stuff in when you are free. It's still a nice place to browse around, but don't expect to score real big:( read more

Yeah Plato's is the best... I know it's supposed to be for teenagers, but I want to wear adorable clothes too! So I shop there, and it's awesome because I get to buy fun trendy clothes for cheap- since I can only wear fun stuff on the weekends now that I am working in an office, I don't want to spend tons of $$$ on a tank top I'll wear 4 times... Last week at Platos I got an H&M sundress, a Forever 21 blouse, an Old Navy tank top and an Old Navy button down for $20. Yup, $20. All the clothes are in awesome condition (no stretching, holes, stains, etc.) and I can't wait to go back and get more! They have racks and racks of jeans (including a rack of exclusively designer jeans) plus rows and rows of shoes and purses. You've got to dig a little sometimes, but it's so worth it. And, if you sign up in the store for their newsletter, they send you a coupon for $5 off your next purchase... that's a tank top right there! read more

I love Plato's!! For those who may not know, it's a teen consignment shop with gently used clothing and shoes and accessories, in addition to selling some of their own accessories (belly rings, necklaces, etc). It's definitely on my go-to list. I can find what I want so much more quickly and easily than I do in the mall. I can't stand excessively trendy crap and that's all you see in the mall stores these days, but Plato's has so many stylish options without being out-of-control and foolishly trendy. I have found some amazing deal here. Whenever I need a nice night out shirt, this has always been the place I end up finding the best shirts in a lot less time than anywhere else. They have gone down slightly since the recession. They seem to accept a little more than they used to, but there still very choose-y, so that's great for people who shop there (not so great if you want to sell) For all of you high school girls, sometimes they even accept and sell prom dresses (cheap, cheap, cheap) and nice, of course, because they've only been worn once!! I've been to this Plato's closet as well as the one in Midlothian multiple times. This store has significantly cleaned up in terms of organization since my first visit in 2013, but their employees' attitudes have gone downhill. I walked in at 2:30pm to sell some clothes, and both the young ladies behind the counter were giving me the side-eye, but didn't bother to welcome me while they continued a conversation between themselves. One of the employees comes up to me, THROWS the form that you're supposed to fill out and a pen across the counter (not even in my direction), telling me to fill it out. After this, the other girl behind the counter tells me in the most know-it-all tone about the wait-time, pick-up, etc. The way they treated me gave me such a bad feeling that I walked right out with my items, even though I was planning to shop before my pickup time. I used to work at Clothes Mentor in Midlothian, so I completely understand the environment in a consignment store. However, I don't ever remember being treated with such little respect at any retail place in my life. TLDR; employees rude. Don't waste your time if you want to be disrespected. read more

If you have never tried selling clothes to Platos Closet, I wouldn't waste your time. Short story - 3 large bags of clothes with a significant amount of newer, barely worn items (looked similar to what was on the racks, anyway) earned a $6.60 store credit- not even "cash" as advertised. They claim same day processing, but we didn't get our text until later the following day and by then we were well into getting my daughter's room cleaned up and packed up to head off to school. I went back in today - granted it is almost a month later - but was informed they only keep the leftovers (clothes they didn't want) for 24 hours. After that they supposedly get donated somewhere. This policy isn't on the website or posted anywhere in the store that I could see and I'm certain no one mentioned it when we dropped off. On top of it, the people "managing" this location seem really grumpy, almost angry or maybe they are just sad... can't be sure. So I recommend steering clear and if you have clothes you aren't wearing, donate them directly to Harvey/Irma relief, Red Cross, Goodwill/Salvation Army or your church. #platosclosetisascam #platosclosetwasteoftime read more

I don't even want to give them one star this store his HORRIBLE terrible customer service, all the shoes are in the wrong size sections. Everyone has one bad experience but then I went back since I was in the area, never again! Beside the fact the people like to stand in the middle of the isle making its super annoying to try to go around them. The people that work there never speak to you when you come in and I had an issue with my shoe size because of course it was in the wrong section and they weren't going to even let me exchange because of their mistake until I asked for a "manager"who allowed me to exchange but was SO rude about it and almost knocked me over as I was walking out the door,made no eye contact just barged right past me. I really like this store. Their prices are so cheap! I feel like they have a lot of weird styles, like stuff with holes and slits and things. I wish they had some more mature styles of clothes. All of their prices are super low! I never feel ripped off by their prices. Almost all of their shirts and skirts are under $10!!! And most dresses are under $20... It's a great deal. I've never sold here, but I'm guessing that they don't offer too much for stuff because they don't sell stuff for too much. read more

I took about 40 to 45 items in (about 8 pairs of jeans, 3 dress slacks, several tops and sweaters, dresses that still had the tags on them and 1 jewelry set with ear rings and a necklace, they wanted everything except the jewelry set and offered me all of $3. 25. I had to laugh in their face. I can get more as a tax write-off with Goodwill or the Salvation Army. My advise: Give your stuff to a homeless shelter. You would get more satisfaction. I have always loved Plato's closet with the large variety at great prices. From time to time I will take clothes in to sell. The most recent time was this past week, I went to platos closet in the west end near davids bridal and tj maxx. I received my text and drove all the way back up to the store. Plato's purchased 3 of my 8 items. The girl helping me gave me the usual list of reasons like wear and tear etc. Then she proceeded to tell me that I can go to once upon a child. I wouldn't be insulted if I had items in there that may have got mixed in from my 5 year old's clothes but instead these were items that 1) were in the right age range 2) the same brand name that I see hanging on the hangers as I left. I felt telling me to take my clothes ( SOME ITEMS THAT HAD BEEN PURCHASED AT PLATO'S) to a children's clothing store. So disrespectful. I will not continue to shop here. read more

My last THREE experiences have been terrible here! I dropped of some clothes (min and my daughters) to a trainee. I then overheard the manager remind the trainee that our customer base is teen and college so keep that in mind when you are checking HER basket. EXCUSE ME!?!? Second. I bought $60 worth of clothing and as all the gal was ringing me up I see that I can qualify for $10 off $50. She told me that it didn't apply to me. When asked why she said I needed to spend $50. Ummm I am. No. You are not. Had to get a manger involved so I could help them do the math that $60 is higher than $50. Third. Dropped off another batch of clothes. I knew they were busy and they mentioned that there were 7 bins ahead of mind but they would text when ready. Never received a text or call. I called a couple days later and they have donated my clothes and know it was their fault and would like to apologize. Didn't offer anything as an apology and said that I should have contacted them earlier. Three strikes and they are out. There are plenty of other consignments around beside them. If you are not a "teen" I wouldn't suggest shopping or donating. Do NOT waste their time. read more

Went there today & the group(4 girls) of employees looked at me while i walked all the way to the counter & didn't greet me with a "welcome to platos" or a "hello" like they did all the other customers that walked in after me. told them i was there to sell & i was given less than $5 for my trendy items. Waited over an hour & the store was just about empty. They where more interested in talking to each other about non-work stuff instead of working. Along with the place smelling like a dirty clothes hamper i will not be returning to this location nor will my coworkers once i tell them about my latest experience. They deserve no stars! read more

I really want to like Plato's Closet, but unfortunately both times I've been to this location, the smell of mold and mildew has been quite overpowering and unpleasant that I couldn't bear to stay too long to make finds. And of the times that I have tried to sell my clothing, I have been pretty unsuccessful! It seems you can't really predict what they'll take - for example they preferred some worn down boots over new dresses from Forever21 and Charlotte Russe that I just changed my mind about. I think if you go in with no expectations, the experience is fine, but something needs to be done about that smell! read more

This place is TERRIBLE the customer service their is awful their cashiers and managers are disrespectful and rude. All of their cloth is ripped and don't even make me start with how bad it is when you try to sell them cloth they literally give you near to nothing it is horrendous. Their store will never make it big because of how terrible everything is including the smell. Plato's is one of the stores I visit more than often. I have a teenaged daughter who loves to go there a lot as well. Not only do I sell, we buy. I've never really had an issue with this store in particular. Although all the employees seem to be nice, friendly and welcoming, their downfall is leaving a customer to wait or stand all awhile they carry on a conversation amongst each other that does "Not" seem to be work related! I disagree with their customer service in that area. Again, I am not trying to tell anyone how to do their job, however the minority of individuals working there are at the most teenagers, college students, and or just may be an adult. I would like to see more attentiveness with customers with helping them before carrying on a conversation amongst each other. Junk! The clothes are worn looking and the prices are too high. Very cramped and items are packed on the racks so you can barely see things. Much better options at other consignment boutiques around town who know the difference between just a name brand and real quality. The people who work here are friendly and their selection is wide with most pieces in fashion. A great place to find in style fashions. Their prices have gone up over the years but most items are in the $8-13 range. More expensive than a regular thrift store, but less outdated clothes to sort through. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. They gave me my stuff back in the exact order I handed it over to them so it was obviously not even looked through. I was told that they were going to pass for everyday wear on the items however the clothes I took to them still had their tags on them and bathing suits still with their hygienic liner. Nice, name brand purses like Kathy Vanzeeland, Element, Volcom. Told me things they were looking for were boots, sweaters, etc to get ready for the fall season however if they had actually looked in the bottom of what I gave them to review they would have seen two pair of never worn boots. Everyday wear on items with tags still on them?? Sounds like someone just didn't feel like doing their job. They never had my business to begin with so oh well. read more
