My experience at Plato's is the same regardless of which location I go to. It's a good place to sell used modern styles of clothing. They buy both men's and women's clothing. You won't make quite as much as if you were to sell privately online, but the process is quick and easy by comparison. They give you the same value whether you pick cash or store credit unlike Uptown Cheapskate. Naturally they sell everything they buy. I find them to have a much broader selection compared to other used clothing stores including much cheaper options. Last time I came in I sold one sweatshirt henley for $5 and bought a pair of joggers for $8. Aside from clothes, they have lots of shoes, jewelry, handbags, and accessories. Be prepared to wait if you're selling. Staff is friendly and helpful. No complaints there. read more

I brought in 3 trash bags of clothes and about 90% of them were BRAND NEW clothes, never worn tags still on. Most of the clothes were from target, altrd state, lulu, athleta and other high quality brands. I also put almost all of my Texas tech gear in a bag. Took them two days to go through my stuff and then they offered me 11 dollars and gave me back 2 and a half bags of clothes back. I doubt they even looked through it, and also don't accept clothes for good will. So lazy and disappointing and a major waste of time for everyone. read more

I was super hesitant to come here after reading all the horrible reviews but i'm so glad i didn't listen. Don't get me wrong I like Uptown cheapskate as well but sometimes they are just too picky. The staff were super friendly and in my opinion went through my stuff rather quickly! Now yes, you do have to wait a bit but just be patient and don't be rude to the workers?? And besides i'm happy with whatever they give me considering it's just going to sit in my attic so might as well make what i can and donate the rest! I've been to and sold at numerous Platos Closet locations and have never received such bad service. The employees were rude and acted very egotistic. I walked in with intention to sell, I filled out my information as usual and was told it should only take about 30 mins. After 45 mins and receiving no text message I went to the counter to see if it was finished or how much longer it would take. I was informed it wasn't finished yet but should only take 10 more minutes. After waiting another 25 mins I came back to ask if it was finished because I needed to leave. I was told That i could leave and they would change the status to "out of store" or something of that sort. I informed them that I am not fron the area, i was only in town for a meeting and I asked for my stuff which appeared to have been finished since it was sitting in the bin with a receipt attached. Unsure why I received so much miscommunication and disrespect after being kind To the employees. Ive sold To multiple locations in the past and they have always given me accuracy time frames and have never taken over an hour. I understand When it's busy it takes longer but there was do need for the employees to be disrespectful and give false times. I'm addition the selection at this location was awful. I have came in twice and both times have had horrible selections, outdated and looked worn. Will not be returning to this location again. read more

Does anyone in Lubbock have jobs ?!? cleaning out my closet and wanted to sell something's for my daughters piggy bank for the past two weeks the wait for this store ( to sell) has been over TWO hours long , that's not even the time for them to look at your stuff .. that's just to wait outside to get inside so you can wait another half an hour for them to get your stuff and put in your information and then you have to wait another half an hour to an hour for them to look through it!!! I even woke up early and was there early in the morning at 9 o'clock and there was a wait outside to sell Before the store even opened !!! All you have to do is read through these reviews. All accurate. Everyone working here has ZERO customer service experience. They all stand around and gossip/bullshit instead of helping customers. Lots of people behind the counter and only one person checking people in. The buying process, if you can call it that, is basically "give us your crap and we will get to it when we feel like it." It's all a gigantic clusterfuck. They expect you to wander around this poorly organized, dirty store while they stand at the front counter not doing much. Donate your used clothes you no longer want to the women's shelter on Erskine off of Ave Q or the Salvation Army downtown. I walked in with a bag of clothes after cleaning out my closet in a large trash bag the way I always do so I could have them take a look. The lady at the counter told me that they switched their policy and apparently I had to bring it in a bin. Not sure why they assume their target market has time to dig around their attics for a plastic bin but I sure don't. And if I bought one it would probably zero out any piddly amount they offered me for my clothes. I wish I could give zero stars. Stood in line to drop my clothes off for 25 minutes then stood in line for half an hour after to be ripped off. Online it says they offer 30% of what they would resell for and I wasn't even offered 5% of the total they would've sold everything for. Wish I could give less than 1 star. After about 6 months of calling/coming in and getting told "we're not buying right now" in the afternoon on weekdays, I finally was told they were buying. I walk up to the "we buy it here" front desk and the girl gave me a snarky face right off the bat. She told me to go to the end of the line (which I didn't see in the corner) of about 15 people. I asked her how long she estimated wait to be and she said "I don't know". I then asked if I could drop off my bags, which is what I've always done at other locations, and she said "yes but you have to wait in the line to do that". Not sure how that makes sense? The people that are waiting in the line gave her their bag and then came back in line and waited until she was done. Resulting in being stuck up here for hours. Once it was my turn in line after waiting for over an hour, I walked up to the counter and as soon as she realized it was me she turned around and started whispering to her friends. They started looking at me and laughing and then the girl says "it'll be another hour". I reminded her I wanted to do a drop off and she then said "oh you don't have enough clothes for a drop off" (without even looking at my bags), after she told me I could when I just got here. Absolutely ridiculous, just trying to be a bitch. Keep in mind there was about 8 girls working, only 1 doing bags, the others playing on their phones. I've donated my clothes to multiple Plato's locations in college, but this location by far is terrible. Customer service is one of the worst of any business I've been too. So disrespectful and rude while I'm giving you business, really?! I find some good clothing items here, being plus sized it's hard to find cute clothes that fit. Their customer service is AWFUL though. The employees on the floor hardly want to help anyone, and give dirty looks when asked to do so. Their bathroom policy is ridiculous as well. I don't understand why PAYING CUSTOMERS can not use the restroom? And as far as selling clothes to them, they hard let accept anything. I've tried to sell to them twice already and they said they couldn't accept the items because they were "roughly used", even though the majority of the items still had the tags on them. One of the most unpleasant, loathsome, abhorrent , putrid customer service experiences I have ever had in my life. I would like somebody to explain to me the logic of why I have to wait for hours in the store, nothing to do, while the employees take their sweet time. Why am I not allowed to leave? If I were to sneak out of the store and come back an hour later it would make no difference in how stupidly long it takes to have the clothes processed. When I arrived, I was greeted professionally, and logged into the system. I was told the wait would be 40 minutes to an hour and that I needed to wait in store. Seemed like a long wait for the middle of a weekday-especially when I had my baby with me, but we made the most of it! After an hour, I went back to the front to ask how much longer it would be and was told another hour to an hour and a half. I asked if I could at least leave the store since this was more than twice as long as I was initially told, and the worker said that I could have left right after I checked in... whaaaa?! I came in multiple times during their posted "buying hours" and they had the audacity to say "Have you sold with us before?" "Do you have your ID?" "Great! We are not buying right now!". I'm jealous of Lubbock's Plato's closet. This Plato's is huge and efficient compared to the ones I am used to. I stopped while staying in Lubbock and trying to waste time. They happened to be doing their big clearance sale at this time. So so so many options. And while I didn't do the grab bag event, I did find many nice clearance picks for JUST a dollar. This is amazingly different from the stores in San Antonio, where clearance is crap and out of style. The cashier was very friendly and helpful, the girls all wore a uniform of sorts which I haven't seen at my home stores but was helpful in determining who to ask for help. They also told me they were moving towards electronic rewards as opposed to stamp cards, something my home stores also haven't done. I understand Plato's is a franchise, so maybe these are different because of that. Either way, my experience was so much better than the ones I am used to back home. Very happy! read more

Platos Closet has sadly never wanted to buy much of my clothing. I used to sell my clothes in austin at The Buffalo Exchange with much success. I think that Platos maybe just isn't me clothing style and that is just a-ok. Poor quality clothes and poor customer service. I've been coming to Plato's Closet since they've been open and have always had the hardest time selling my clothes with them. Much of their floor merchandise is poor quality and "roughly" used instead of "gently" used. Was in there today and was offered $16.00 for 3 shirts. A line was forming around the counter and two associates decided to continue their activities on the computer rather than help out. I was able to speak to the manager on duty who kindly explained what demographic Plato's is catering to, but I had to remind her that much of their merchandise has been on the floor for quite some time. I have a retail and management background so I'm aware of how this works. I've tried to continue to give the store the benefit of the doubt in terms of reshaping their management and sales tactics, but they will no longer receive business from me. read more

This is probably the worst Plato's closet I've ever been to. Not only are half the clothes damaged or stained, but don't ever expect to sell your items here! They have a sign posted on the front that says they don't buy on Wednesday's or sundays, but there have been FIVE different occasions where I've gone in on another day, and they have turned me away because they aren't buying for "inventory reasons." First of all they told me one thing and come to find out it was a lie. I went in at 11:00am Monday 8/27/18. She told me it would be 45 mins. There was 10 people in front of me and she told each of them it would be 45 mins... how is that possible? And there was only 2 people at that time. I asked if I could come back. She said yes and set up my return time at 330pm. I come back at 3:30pm. And guess what my time was not Honored. And my items were not ready at said time. Ok, so I know things happen so I thought ok 10 mins or so not a huge deal. But it was like 30 to 40 mins late and she rudely said oh yea I booked 3 people at 330. They need to learn time management. There are some nice things here and everything is in great condition, but they have horrible customer service. I've worked in retail so I know it's frustrating when you're understaffed (which they clearly are), but that's no reason to treat your customers poorly. I went in on 09/23 at around 1pm and the girl that was running the fitting rooms in the back was clearly frustrated with not having help but also extremely rude and inattentive. She made a racist comment about a Spanish-speaking customer who couldn't understand what she was trying to say to him about clothing limits in the fitting rooms. Instead of trying to get help from another employee or customer, she just rolled her eyes and made rude comments. The fact that they hire employees who will talk badly about customers to other customers shows a lot about how they run their business. Their advertised 90% of sale is a joke! The big sign out front says "90% Clearance Sale" with no smaller text below it and no other signs within the store have any either. Upon going to the counter to pay we find out that only yellow marked tags are under the sale. Looking through the store afterwards we could only find maybe 5 marked items. If you're going to advertise a huge sale like that, but not specify what is actually applicable then that is false advertising if I've ever seen it. read more
