Second time there. Brought in clothes during the correct selling time of year. All brand name clothes, Junior skinny jeans from American Eagle and Hollister that were may be worn once or twice. (Black, Jean color) Sweaters and sweatshirts from Abercrombie, American Eagle and Aerie etc. Didn't buy one item. Girl told me it would take 45 minutes to get pricing. 11 minutes later I get a text saying they're done. Then they told me it's not the style they're looking for. A joke. read more

I enjoy shopping here because they have an awesome selection, but the service is really hit or miss. Most of the workers seem like they hate their jobs, and are pretty judgmental. If you're looking for name brand clothes on the cheap this is definitely the place to go, but be ready for an uncomfortable environment. read more

This has nothing to do with the amount received or the clothes they picked or anything like that - it's all subjective when it comes to what they decide to purchase and that's fine and a part of the rules to the game. But the customer service of this place - especially the tall blonde woman who ran the desk was abysmal. Talk about someone who would spit in your face if given the chance - she was awful to me and yelled at me for just existing in the store. I don't think I've ever seen someone mimic the "tAlKinG liKE tHiS fOnT" in person but she perfected it to an art form with the way she yelled at me in front of other customers when she asked if I was there to pick up. Now I know what you're thinking, maybe I was a being rude too and that's a justified question - and you can choose to believe me or not when I tell you that I actually was just walking in. I will tell ya, she will have a great career in childcare with the way she talked down to me in our interaction - so if you know anybody who needs to be humbled for existing. She's the woman for you. They took a couple shirts so I can't complain, but the bin I brought back with me looked like it was as ravished as the dinner plates left behind from high school teenagers at an Applebees in the Midwest. I have been a customer and sold clothes to them and I have been satisfied with both! They can picky about what they buy but if you check beforehand for their most wanted items and follow that, you can get a decent amount for your stuff. People just need to realize that they can't buy everything even if it is perfect. As for shopping, its been 50/50. Sometimes I do find items with stains on them or holes but usually they are small or minor. I think the staff might focus too much on the brands and not the quality. As a student, I was looking to sell some clothes for cash as well as shop for athletic wear. I got a smaller amount of clothes sold, but I was satisfied as any cash is better than none. Plato's Closet is located in the VRichards shopping center in Brookfield on Blue Mound Road. Some of the most fashionable clothing in town is offered at a tremendous discount, prices reflect in some cases 60-70% less than your average prices at Hot Topic and boutiques at the Mall. The price of jeans averages between 10 and 30 dollars a pair for brand name slightly used, but in excellent condition for its second handedness. Cotton t-shirts average between 5 and 10 dollars a piece. An Abercrombie women's XS navy blue sweatshirt in excellent condition was purchased by our entourage for $14. The selection of vintage dresses in a multitude of styles and sizes were well worth the trip to Brookfield. The selection of designer hand bags was excellent. Several coach bags were for sale for around fifty dollars and they were as close to "new" as possible. The selection of shoes was also quite impressive. No Halloween costumes were discovered, however the vintage portion of the dresses could offer a unique idea for the fashion conscious individual. Pinching pennies may be the ultimate reward in discovering some of what upscale resale has to offer, yet the adventure into the world of thrifty fashionable clothing has its own immeasurable value. I recently brought in three bags of jeans. At least half of the jeans were Levi's--many of them 501's in excellent condition and freshly laundered. I was trying to sell them because I lost weight and they no longer fit. There were other jeans in the bags as well (Paige, Ann Taylor, Lauren Conrad) and although I certainly didn't expect every pair to be purchased, I thought some (esp the 501's) were good contenders. The young lady at the counter spent less than 3 minutes looking at my items. In fact, she only looked at the contents of one bag. She barely touched the other two bags--she didn't even so much as remove the contents to examine them but sort of glanced in them and saw more jeans and dismissed them. I've done business at Plato's before and have been happy with my transactions. I would think if a customer would take the time to bring many items to sell, and there appeared to be something of value in that stack to purchase from them it would be better to buy something from them than to turn them all away completely and then tell them "So sorry, none of your items are what we're looking for today". Really? They're Levi's! So now you've completely lost a once happy customer because a short sighted employee didn't take the time to look at the items and isn't trained to see the bigger picture. Came in with a bin full of brand new designer items and was told that I would be contacted when they were finished sorting through them. As I waited, I overheard the workers talking about how incompetent another coworker was. I waited for over an hour before asking how much longer it would be until they were done sorting through my clothes, accessories and shoes. The workers informed me that my things have been ready for a long time. I never received any notification that my order was ready. They then let me know that there wasn't a manager available to authenticate my designer items, so they had to pass on almost everything. The couple of pieces that they were willing to take were worth over $100 together. They offered me $10. If I would have known how big of a waste of my time, the trip to Plato's closet would've been, I never would have driven over an hour. Will be finding a new consignment shop. read more

By far the worst experience ever. My mom and I drove 40 minutes to Plato's with a basket filled with name brand clothes. We waited 15 minutes for them to look through my clothes and out of a full basket they picked 2 pairs of pants and gave me $7.21 all together! More than half of these clothes had the tags on them and were only worn twice. I was told they don't take "youth sizes", I am a small girl but I don't wear youth sizes. Most of those clothes were a xsmall, small, or a medium which by the way they sell in store. I wasn't expecting to make a fortune off of these clothes. But what I brought in was basically brand new compared to the run down clothes that they had in store. You refuse to take clothes and shoes with the tags on them but are willing to take run down stuff with stains or shoes that are not gently worn. Complete waste of my time! read more

I came to this store pretty recently to sell a few items that I had. All of the stuff was new (with tags) or lightly worn. I signed in and completed the check in and headed back to my car to wait. I was told it would take around 30 minutes, but I received my alert in 10. I was offered $5 for a BRAND NEW Adidas skirt (that still had the tag on it and that I paid $30 for) and a pair of jeans. I will never return to this store to sell anymore of my clothing. It is a complete rip off and waste of time . If I could give it less than one star, I would. I also had to travel pretty far to complete this transaction so it's safe to say that I'm very disappointed! read more

Disappointed to find Plato's really doesn't take name-brand items for resale. I brought in some higher end pieces and they passed over them, instead taking an H&M t-shirt. This resale store definitely caters to a younger crowd. I was surprised to find resale plaid pajama pants and sweatshirts among the aisles. Since there's no response button on the owner's response to my review, I would just like to add that "dirty and grungy" is NOT in style. I'm talking deodorant stains, spots and heavily "pilled" sweaters. I think cleanliness is close to godliness. Second, The clothing I was bringing for consignment consideration ranged from size 0 to a size 6. I am now a size 8/10, so I had no reason to keep the items. I'm in my late 20s and I worked as a fashion model in Los Angeles and New York (mostly Los Angeles) until deciding to pursue my PhD. So why would you want me to take the clothing items to a "mature" women's store? Most of the items were classic, ageless or straight off the runway or no different than what we see in anchor stores currently. It's called fashion. But hey, I guess you have a different image of how a Wisconsin girl is supposed to be dressed. I wish your business well. To each his own. (BTW, I still send clothing to Decades on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood and also, Real Real buys many of my items, including designer handbags). I've been here twice. The place is alright. Pretty organized and the staff is nice. They are picky on the items they receive which I could understand. But I had VERY good condition shirts (Hollister, AE, Abercrombie, etc, some not even used!), that looks like every other recent style that they are currently selling in the store. But apparently they were more than 1 years old so they denied all of them! So unless you bought clothing from the retail store, couldn't return it for some reason, and sell it to Plato the next week. They'd probably give you half or less than half for how much you actually bought the item. read more

This Plato's location is one of my favorites because it carries great brands that I could get at the mall for less than half the price. However, from a seller standpoint this store is not great. They take basically nothing and what they do take you will get hardly any money back in return. So don't expect to walk out with big bucks, but if you have nice quality, name brand, recent purchases that you are looking to get rid of it is a good way to make a little money. read more

I came in to sell clothes and I did not have a mask on, as it is not a mandate anymore and other employees have never made me wear one or have asked me to. I came in the other day to try and sell some high end clothing. The staff was less than amused when I walked in at 5:00pm to drop clothes off. They told me they needed at least 20-30 minutes to review my items and see if they could take any clothing. That seemed definitely reasonable, if not very quick, when I received a text from them no less than 5 minutes later I was shocked. I walked in to the store where the very rude sales associate basically read off a script of why they would not accept any of my clothes. I was shocked some of my items were brand new and designer. She handed me back my bags of clothes that were UNOPENED. No one looked at my clothes. The store was disheveled and the sales associates were rude.
