Dropped a bucket of clothes off & the employee told me I was good to go so I went and ran other errands then came back hours later after getting a text that they're done. I go in and they tell me they haven't done it yet because they never got my ID. The employee didn't ask me for my ID. She said they tried calling multiple times. Today's visit was a five star. The staff was very friendly which was a nice change. They had a lot of spring items on clearance for 50% off. Cute and trendy items. The store is very clean and smells fresh when you walk in. Not like a typical thrift store. The items are a little pricey for used clothing but if you search, you can find some bargains. I took a picture of the outside as this location has moved in the past six months. It's now located next to Half Price Books. In the strip mall behind DUNKIN Donuts. DO NOT SELL HERE! Or even shop here. I attempted to sell some really nice clothing here today to earn some extra cash- and perused while I waited. The staff turned me away before because my items were in a trash bag which is against their "policy" So I tried to come back today- my stuff in a laundry basket with really nice expensive items (Ann Taylor, Loft, Gloria Vanderbilt jeans) and they didn't take one thing. Waited over 1.5 hour for them to take nothing and waste my time. Their excuse "we are filled to capacity and the clothes you brought are too dressy." Meanwhile on their racks they have clothes from target. It's a joke! Never will be back to shop, or sell. read more

I walked into the location before bringing my bucket of clothes in to sell to make sure that they were still excepting clothes. When I asked if they were still excepting clothes I was told yes! So I walked back out to my car and brought my bucket of clothing in, and then I am told we are no longer excepting clothes. I asked if I could leave it overnight with no expectations of them to go through things tonight and they could start tomorrow and I was told nope, you will have to come back tomorrow and bring it in. Unfortunately, this location is clean and has great assortment of clothing. But, the unfortunately comes from the girls standing behind the counter. I have been here 3 times and so far the reception has remained the same. I am intruding on their precious time and how DARE I!!! Seems that the most emphasis is put on sorting clothes and forget the customer! Where is management? There is no personality nor even a mere smile that would honestly encourage anyone to return. The employees must be family because there are many people looking for work who know how to smile and speak without a scowl. I am extremely upset with my experience at this plato's. I had waited 2 hours when I was told it would only take 1 hour to get to estimating a payout for my clothes. i was told i would receive a text message when my return was ready, but i never received one. I spent 2 hours at the book store next door waiting (they said i could leave and come back) but literally never heard from the store as promised. T When i went to the counter to receive my return, They said they specifically only took 3 items. a $25 top from target a$25 vintage reebok pullover and a mesh shirt from f21 i never wore which was whatever. They offered me $7 for it. I felt disappointed but i just felt relieved it was over. i dont have a job so any money i can get is important. i felt relieved that they didn't take some of the higher end items and low balled me so i could try a little harder to sell them on my own. As i was leaving i had the instinct to check my bags. They were SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than before. I specifically remembered struggling to stuff a pair of black overalls that were covered in cat hair into a bag - and debating leaving them because i didn't know if they would take them. Those overalls were gone they retail at about $50 not only that but I immediately realized that a $50 Dumbgood hello kitty graphic shirt was gone as well. I immediately brought it up and watched the 3? 4?girls behind the counter scrabble and check every bin they had behind the counter for about 5-7 minutes. The lady in charge comes up and tells me that my bags got mixed up with the the person that came before me's bags and they had gotten paid for all of my items collected. I had nothing to back up my original inventory of clothes and at the moment there were only 2 items i had recognized as missing. I had also mentioned that a pair of blue vintage adidas pants were missing and she completely disregarded that statement She then said that she could only compensate me $10 for my previously mentioned overalls and tshirt, i was not offered my items back. I just took my cash and left. I shrugged it off and had a decent encounter with the lady in charge but on the way home i was running through the clothes i had brought, and i noticed a few more things that were taken from me. Im p upset bc this was again one of the few ways that I could make money while being between jobs due to being unable to work and all i could land was $17 for roughly $150 of very nice clothing in good condition. And someone out there is walking around with my money from my clothes. I cant even try to sell those clothes on my own now. So if you're trying to sell clothes, i would recommend trying to sell to local vintage boutiques, friends, selling online, having a garage sell, or just simply donating to clothing drives. read more

Plato's closet is a great place to get clothes at an affordable price, and I remember going there over a year ago and being super wowed for how everything that was set up, it was like a cool new hip place to shop. But, sadly as I went in two weeks ago I saw it become more or so like a goodwill. Clothes scattered all over the floor. People's children were knocking down racks ( I know that's not really Plato's fault. ) and when my sister went up to buy something we weren't helped for a while, even though there were people at the cash register. A few things I wish changed was the amount of clothing... there was clothes everywhere and it became to overwhelming to shop, and the place was pretty dirty which made it feel like a goodwill. I don't know what happened to this store. I hope it goes back to being hip and cool! Because me and my friends once loved this place. read more

I worked retail for ages. In various capacities. Sales associate. Assistant Manager, acting store manager, merchandiser... And the thing that can make or break a store beyond anything else (even store layout/organization/cleanliness) is customer service. Nothing worse than entering a store only to be ignored. The girl I held the door open for was greeted. I mistakenly thought they were greeting me and started saying hello back, only to realize? They were greeting the girl coming to sell stuff... And never again did I think the staff was speaking to me or did the staff speak to me. Moreso felt they were silently judging. I had the opposite experience at the Greenwood location, so it was truly strange. And the funny thing is? It's like Pretty Woman. I had cash to spend, but no one wanted to help me or even acknowledge me. That metallic backpack purse I was wearing? $500. Boots? Over $300. Rails Button Down. Cheaper BDG jeans. My point? I don't mind dropping cash. I shop full price retail and resale shops. Mix and match. I have laid down hundreds per visit at the Greenwood store. Also brought them designer duds (Free People, Kate Spade, For Love and Lemons, etc) and didn't complain about the compensation (see Greenwood review for my stance on that) This store sours the bunch. I just can't. I walked around for maybe 20 minutes. Some stuff had massive pilling (especially in the athletic section)... but if you don't like it? Just don't buy it. I wish there was a zero star option- I will never go into this Plato's Closet again. For 3 years I have attempted to go in there and the employees have been completely rude and disrespectful every time. I just sold with them today and could not believe the audacity they had to offer me 5 dollars for 3 brand new, never-been-worn items. They didn't take jeans that were in mint condition or shirts that looked brand new. I have even seen the manager yelling and arguing with a customer outside the store front. They can't keep the store clean and they have no respect for the people that keep their business running. Wish I could give 0 stars! We went with a lot of clothes in hand and while they were going through them, we looked around the store. They lied to us and said they wouldn't take clothes that were more than 18 months out of style/trend! Jeans and T-Shirts are NEVER out of trend. 2nd time I've taken my daughters clothes here. Last time they bought nothing. This time I had aero American eagle gap pink etc. I threw a jacket on top that was a 14/16 kids. I asked if they took it which they said no. The rest was juniors and small women's clothes. Underneath that 14/16 jacket were 3 brand new coats..never worn. They only bought 2 crappie looking items. She said that the rest were kids. I said no they weren't. Just that one jacket. She said it was condition. Bullshit. Several pink and other shirts weren't worn. I looked in the one bag. Pulled out the new coat. They never went through the bag. I'm done with this place. What a waste of time. Everything was washed and folded. I donated others to goodwill. What a joke. No wonder it only took 10 minutes vs 25 they told me it would take. No more. read more

This particular Plato's Closet has poor selection, and lacks creativity in organizing popular items that I have seen in other stores around the country. It makes the shopping experience less stressful when I can go to a section that I know will always have items that are in good condition and desirable. This place is terrible. Don't take anything to sell. A 17 year old will tell you all of your brand new clothes with tags still on them is out of style. The guy selection is trash. My mother and other family members can't shop here at all because they don't have any supply for any person above the age of 18. Seems the store is ran by children.
