I just moved to town, one of the excitements of starting fresh is finding your hair salon!…read more For me, when looking for my salon, it's not just about, who has the best technique and who is up to date on styles - for me it's equally about how the salon makes you feel, the environment, the staff. Do I feel welcome? Are the hair dressers happy? Do they care? I found this salon by google search and was pleasantly surprised when I got partnered up with the owner of the shop! This meant I was guaranteed to be getting my first impression by the one that would care the most, it's guaranteed they would be welcoming and the smile on her face in the photograph made me think, I'll be in her chair intimately for a long period of time, maybe I'll even make a new friend. I was very wrong. Entering the shop, I was greeted with an ice cold glare, the words "can I help you?" were delivered as if I was a begger, coming in AGAIN to harass them from the street. I told her I was here for my hair appointment. *Phewf* that was just the front desk girl, glad that's not my stylist - I took a seat, smelling the deliciousness of the Aveda products, thinking I'd like some new smelly lotion as a treat. Moments later I was escorted by the same lady , to her chair, where she proceeded to ask me questions about my hair... this is weird, I thought, the owner is having the front desk girl gather the information for her, smart I guess, time saver! I then put it together... the woman I inconvenienced at the front desk WAS my stylist AND the smiling face from the website's photo.. the owner. I opened up about my personal life and story, hoping to make a connection, understanding too, that people have been going through a rough time these past years and maybe we could still find a connection point and this could still be my new salon - but at the end of my appointment, after feeling eye rolled at, that my hair wasn't up to par coming in (my husband had been cutting my bangs while we were travelling overseas), and generally dissatisfied with life energy throughout, when begrudgingly asking if I wanted my hair curled, I STILL felt an inconvenience to her. Maybe I'm overly sensitive right now because I'm pregnant and maybe I have high standards to want even my hair experience to be one of connection and care but come on- this is horrible customer service! I left with my hair looking cleaned up, which was the purpose of the appointment - I needed a professional for that, but... I didn't leave feeling good. I didn't purchase products on my way out. I won't be returning for even a free bang trim.

Started as a Zero stars but quickly recovered!…read more Our daughter booked a appointment on July 4 for 9:30 appointment for July 14, the person on the phone took her name and phone number. The person on the phone told her that the junior would call her the following Monday to speak about what my daughter was requesting. Well following Monday the junior never called! My daughter did try that following tue try call to get information on how long and price, NOBODY called her back. She did call MANY times and got no answer on the phone. She even left many message. Yet nobody called.( disclosure we live farther away from Vernon so it not like we would just show up to the business.) We arrived at schedule time and we are told the junior hairdresser who was to style her hair wasn't to be in until 11am. She checked the schedule and nothing was put in the system. Even checked the hair appointment book. She even ask if we got a follow up call text reminder of the appointment, which we did not . The hairdresser was the only person working and with a client I explained this was for her late grad pictures. I showed the text that my daughter sent me that she made the appointment and the junior was to call her back which nobody did. And the fact she left many messages and called many times to speak to her, yet nobody called her back! She said allow me to finish with this client and I will get ahold of the junior. She explained she lived outside of Vernon so we would have to wait for her to show up. We waited awhile and she came back saying that she wasn't going to bother trying to figure out what happened and she will fit her in. By 10:30 am another hairdresser came in and help finish the up due. They apologized a few times while doing her hair and my daughter said they were very gentle. My daughter went to pay and they told her no charge for her Up due and the mixup.

Since relocating to Vernon for work from Vancouver, I have begun the search for a good independent…read morecoffee house, local pub, good mechanic, and a place to get my weed whacked. Chatters is a chain mall salon, but I have used the one in Cranbrook before, and it wasn't so bad. You'd think that Vernon being a larger municipality, and closer to Kelowna that it would be a lot better. Sadly, that was not the case. The stylist I had was a little bit high maintenance, nor was she particular warm. She was a competent stylist, but definitely though she was better than she actually was. Confidence bordering on ego. When I commented that the cut was not exactly what I asked for (and trust me, my hair is not that hard to figure out) she got a bit huffy. Then I got the bill. Fairly expensive for a haircut that was adequate, and not exactly what you specifically wanted. The little soap opera in front of the client (who would be me in this instance) wasn't exactly professional either. On the plus side, the hours of operations are convenient (Thursdays and Fridays they stay open late), and the retail side has a good selection of product. However, the Chatters Salon in Vernon should be a Plan B, or a Plan C, as a place to get a haircut.

I've had the same stylist here for 8+ years. Granted I don't go that often, but when I go, I sense…read morethat she doesn't remember me at all and "fakes" her way through it. I like the way she cuts my hair, so that's why I keep going back. She must have a lot of clients and I just don't stand out or something. I don't mind that she doesn't remember me - I would just appreciate her being honest about it. I notice the past couple of times, she's trying to sell me on products. She's probably been told to do this - and it's awkward. I always have buyer's remorse after - spending $50 on a small bottle of hair cream that I have no idea how to use. I typically spend, with tip, $70 on a haircut (45 minutes) and had spent $275 on a colour (3 hours). As I haven't gone anywhere else in a long time, I don't know if this is reasonable or not. I do my own high and low lights now (Sally Beauty is awesome!) because I was spending too much time in the salon - which was SO boring. I think a couple of times, she even forgot about me when she left me sitting under the dryer (I watched her deliver multiple other cuts while I waited 2+ hours under the dryer with not so much as a check-in to see how I was doing). I appreciate the confirmation/reminder phone call prior to the appointment. I don't understand why there are like 3 people behind the counter at all times - sometimes more focused on their appearance than on customer service. It's a trendy "hip" place I suppose. And when you find someone who knows how to cut your hair, you just keep going back regardless of your disappointments. :(
