It may be a good financial move for the Hospital, but a bad one for patients. I had ER surgery on my hand there. I requested that they release me, after numbing and immobilizing my hand, and waiting in the hallway of the ER for almost 2 hrs. because all of the rooms were being used to treat CONVICTS (I mean "inmates") ?? Dr.Endicott informed me that IF I left the ER, and did not agree to surgery at Sutter, MediCal would not cover the costs ? I addressed this issue with SA mgmt. and SH (Ann Platt) in an attempt to have corrective surgery performed there, by a more competent Ortho Hand Surgeon, but they declined to do the surgery. This after a "review: I had 2 Ortho Dr's (they work for SA ?) tell me, in writing , that the surgery was not done correctly, and needs corrective surgery ASAP. Fortunately, after 8 months of dealing with these clowns, I found a Hospital (Barton ,SL Tahoe) an Ortho Dr. I had an appt. with him last week, he scheduled surgery this week, arranged a PT Hand specialist....GREAT Hospital and Staff ! If you aren't bleeding to death ? I would suggest driving right by Sutter-Amador ! Dignity (Mark Twain) is 20 minutes down the road. *** BEWARE of Sutter-Amador, and esp. this "Dr."

He has been trained in very difficult knee and hip surgeries ones that other people couldn't fix. He's caring, will listen to you, but he's also efficient. He has the best PA, Megan Stier that I have ever seen. I commend whoever at Sutter Gould hired Dr.Than, what a smart choice!

He was open about including my husband at all of my appointments, as my husband was the one providing my in-home care. My husband felt very confident in Dr. Than, as I did. He was very clear about the non-weight bearing restrictions & the time frame for those restrictions. It's amazing to see my scar, now three months after the surgery. It is so faint you can barely see it. My friends are amazed at how wonderfully my incision has healed & so quickly. Dr. Than is very thorough in his pre-op preparation. I have a bleeding disorder & had a pulmonary embolism almost 20 years prior, following a back surgery. I also have asthma & some minor heart issues. Dr. Than made sure I had all the pre-op tests & approvals from my specialists, prior to the surgery. In regard to recovery, Dr. Than has referred me for Physical Therapy & is confident I will regain all of the functions of my leg & knee I had prior to my accident.

It's the season for Thanks, so this review is long overdue…read more No one wants to have a problem with your hand, wrist, or elbow. We rely so much on our limbs and we don't give them a second thought until we have an injury, illness, or problem. I found myself in quite a bad way for over two years with my left arm. I had originally been seen and diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis (aka tennis elbow) by an orthopedic doctor I had been referred to by my then-pcp at Dignity Health. After a successful but short-lived response to a cortisone shot, I had an MRI. Surgery was recommended during COVID times which was rather complex as elective surgeries weren't even being scheduled. I was told it would be an open approach with a 6-8 week recovery period and additional weeks of physical therapy. I had never had surgery before and was frankly concerned. I then sought a second opinion from a hand and elbow surgeon in LA. He recommended a PRP injection. Then my insurance stoped contracting with Dignity Health and the orthopedic doctor. I then experienced a crisis with my arm resulting in an ER visit. My new Sutter primary care doctor recommended Dr. Hankins and said he was the only hand and elbow orthopedic surgeon in the Sacramento area. I saw Dr. Hankins and felt immediately at ease. He is a man of few words and lots of knowledge and experience. He knows how to assess and examine a patient without causing more pain. He advised more shots and perhaps surgery, although he said it was an option and could not guarantee a specific outcome. I was lured by the hype job of PRP and had the treatment in LA a few months later. When it did not go according to plan, and even resulted in an ER visit (it's not called experimental without reason), I hoped Dr. Hankins would see me again. Much to my relief, Dr. Hankins scheduled the surgery at my request, and never said a word about my PRP "experiment." I was hopeful that the disabling and crippling pain and immobility I'd been dealing with for three years had a chance of improving. I was also very scared of surgery (my first!) but I felt finally it had to be done. Almost 2.5 years after my surgery I can say it was the best decision ever, and Dr. Hankins gave me my arm back. He did an arthroscopic approach which meant my recovery was much quicker and my post surgical ace bandages and sling were off in a short time. Whenever I needed follow up care or PT referrals Dr. Hankins and his excellent medical assistant were there to help. Professional and caring. I highly recommend this practice and doctor. I would hope you wouldn't have a hand or elbow condition and need surgery, but if you do, there could not be a better doctor.

I don't ever leave bad reviews, but I would like to protect others from this doctor…read more.. DONT TRUST THIS DOCTOR WITH YOUR CARE. I broke my humerus in 2 places on 1/29/23, so the upper bone in my arm was in 3 pieces. I went to Kyle Swanson and he saw me for 5 minutes and then had his tech put on a brace that didn't even cover the injury AND it cut off my circulation so dramatically that my hand doubled in size. I called the office several times because I was scared it was compartment syndrome. I left several messages saying that this was an emergency but they didn't answer or call me back. I had to go to the ER to find out it was his brace that had caused all of the swelling and it could have even further damage. Three days after visiting the ER, they STILL hadn't called back to see if I was in trouble. I had to call THEM. The girl said the office had been busy, and it's honestly alarming that they took on more patients than they could responsibly handle. I'm sure it creates a lot of profit but that's not how you treat people with serious injuries. I've never been so dangerously ignored by a doctor in my life. This office feels no responsibility for the well being of their patients and their care is horrendous. 2/19/24 UPDATE: Anne, from their billing department, just called me and told me that I wasn't justified in leaving this review. Nothing about this review is untrue and the fact that they would call me a year later to debate me is UNREAL. I needed their help a long time ago. BOTH the ER doc and my new doc confirmed that the brace Kyle Swanson HAD HIS TECH put on was actually making my arm worse. Also, Anne said I can't expect that they would call me back in two hours so I would have had to go to the ER doc anyway. Except, if he actually knew what he was doing in the first place I wouldn't have had to go to the ER because it was THE BRACE HE PUT ON that created the subsequent issues. I am truly blown away by the incompetence and callousness of this office. They gave me terrible care, didn't listen to my concerns, and now they are debating their own horrible practices with a patient that desperately needed help. PSA: Go anywhere else
