It's funny that almost all comments less than 5 stars are due to one "rude elderly man". Not sure if he's an employee or owner, nonetheless it's essential he learns basic customer service. Planter Paradise has a great selection of planters at a fair price and beautiful colors, unfortunately I'd rather pay more than do business with someone that impolite and insulting. Fortunately I did find what I needed elsewhere. Paid a bit more but the employee helping me presented with great customer service. To the "rude elderly man" ... if you don't enjoy what you do it's never too late to do something else! read more

I'm an extreme newbie that got pulled into the world of succulents; my research and overwhelming opinion is: whatever your chosen vessel, make sure you have drainage holes, the correct type of soil and/or precautions to ensure your succulents' roots do not remain in water . Across-the-board, terra-cotta is touted as one of the best containers for succulents; I didn't want to risk breakage by ordering from Amazon, or a porch pirate making off with my order. The big box stores' limited quantities and options led me to Yelp, where I found this establishment; after reading the Reviews, despite multiple low ranks, I decided to take a chance. Today, the shelves weren't fully, only just adequately stocked; for my needs, it was fine; after perusing the offerings, I made and paid for my selections. Pros: 1. Reasonable prices. 2. Variety!!! From Bonsai to Talavera, terra-cotta, glazed/unglazed, fountains, garden balls/statuary, you will find something there. 3. Wheeled pushcarts for your use. 4 some succulents and cactus are available for purchase. 5. SALES RACK!!! Walk around first, you could save money! 6. Arrive early -- By the time I left (note the time on my receipt), the parking lot was full. Cons: 1. Slow down! As another Reviewer stated: "blink and you just might miss the entrance," depending on which direction you're coming from, and how much traffic there is during whatever time of day -- you will have to do a U-turn because you missed it, or because there's a double yellow line, so be careful. 2. Underwhelming service. This place makes you appreciate Wal-mart greeters! I was one of MAYBE 3 clients as soon as they opened, yet I received no acknowledgment, eye contact, nod, smile, greeting and/or assistance from any staff members (2 older Caucasian males); perhaps business is so good, it doesn't matter whether my brown face purchases or not. 3. HOT! Have adequate sun protection, water and footwear for your browsing/shopping experience. 4. Clumsy, accident prone persons and adults who don't supervise small, energetic children -- uneven surfaces abound -- very limited pavement, it's loose gravel/rock and dirt; do not wear sandals or white tennis shoes that you care about unless you are good about keeping your shoes clean. Expect dusty feet when done shopping. 5. Do not shop alone. Bring muscle and a truck with an extended bed, or a vehicle with lots of trunk/frunk space. Because they have so much variety, you may end up purchasing more than you originally intended. The physical layout of the campus is not conducive to tight cornering of the push carts -- like the ones you use for bulk purchases at Costco-- especially when weighed down with pottery. I received no assistance and neither did I ask for any since I did not get a helpful vibe from the staff. From the back of the lot, after hefting 2 bags of cactus soil, even my 5'2" , 140#, sandal wearing frame was very sweaty/winded by the time I made it to the register. In fairness, the man who rang up my purchase pushed my cart to the car (which was parked basically at the entrance ... AFTER I I asked if there was an easier way to corner/exit, because I couldn't negotiate the right turn (then left) to the parking lot. Unlike other Reviewers who received stellar, friendly service and loading assistance when leaving, I apparently did not qualify for such VIP treatment. Conclusion : I'm pleased with my haul, having purchased the bulk of what I needed; the savings outweighed the aforementioned "cons." In addition to a severely underwhelming shopping experience, other than stating my purchase's total, the employee at the check out area only said: "you've been here since we opened". Wow. Just ... wow. 2 stars knocked off for sub-par customer service. At my job, customer service is key to daily operations. treat people well, and chances are, you've secured a satisfied, repeat client. I'm no trust fund beneficiary, and every penny I have is earned. Today's visit is a one and done deal; I will go to the box stores for my future terra-cotta needs. My brown self didn't receive the much-touted customer care, nor did I feel welcomed, so I will not be back. Pity, really -- my coworker was looking forward to exploring and patronizing this place. I will share my disappointing experience with her and warn her to bring a Caucasian friend -- maybe then she'll receive better service. The race card has never worked for me; times like this, I can see why people wonder if skin color does influence how a person is treated. Reviewers who experienced fantastic service are overwhelmingly not brown, so I can help but wonder ...! I hope you, Dear Reader -- no matter who you are, or what you look like, has a better shopping experience than I did. read more

What a haven for any gardening enthusiast ! This place is filled with pots in different colors of shapes, sizes and colors - ranging from bright lemon yellows, sunset oranges, lime greens, cobalt and turquoise blues to ivory, blacks and greys. In addition to pots, they also have beautiful planters, bird baths, concrete benches, various garden decor and different kinds of soil/potting mixes and earthworm castings. The prices are quite reasonable and during these COVID times, they were all following safety rules- wearing masks and still extremely helpful. Thought it's a bit of a drive, we will be returning to this place for most gardening needs. read more

After searching at Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel and West Elm, I quickly realized that I would have to sell my kidney in the black market to afford outdoor planters. Alas, I decided to check Yelp to see if there are local options before I auctioned one of my bean-shaped organs and discovered Planter Paradise. This place is filled with every type of planter imaginable as well as plants and outdoor fountains at very reasonable prices. What makes PP even more of a standout are the kind, helpful and knowledgeable staff. They made me feel welcome from the first interaction, so much so that I made 3 trips to this place in one day. My go to for pots, landscape decor, AND soil amendment items (organic fertilizer, worm castings, soil, perlite etc). They also have a nice, sometimes rare selection of succulents. Robert, the owner, is so helpful and fun to talk to when he isn't running around helping everyone and loading stuff in your car! You can spend a good amount of time just roaming the property. Wear your sneakers because it is dusty and outdoors. Beautiful and very inexpensive items. They have 50% off sales all the time and the items are great! I make sure to check out those shelves first! Expect to buy at least one thing....you'll be back for more because it's the best priced place in San Diego County! They're closed Monday-Tuesday. read more

What to do when you want a nice indoor pot and its become "the off season" for garden-related things for the retail world (ya know, when the Halloween stuff makes it debut in July)? Go to planter paradise obvs. I was in a bit of a pickle finding a pot for my newly purchased fiddle leaf fig tree...My neighborhood options were reduced to home depot or a nursery and both of those are pretty darn expensive for a larger glazed pot appropriate for the home (I didnt want plastic or resin for my living room). El Cajon is a bit of trek from my area, but the selections and pricing definitely made the special trip worth it. I would say prices for the same pots as I was considering at Armstrong are about 30% cheaper. I found an 18.75" x 15.75" glazed ceramic pot for $55 when they were $75-$100 elsewhere. Just to give you an idea. The prices are fair, but not a steal. There is a clearance section but the options are pretty limited. To get a matching saucer for the size was $21. They truly have every color of the rainbow and in many shapes and sizes. If you are in need of a pot, I dont think you will walk about empty-handed! They also have bird baths and various figurines like happy pigs laying on the ground enjoying life - who could pass up adding that to your garden? read more

Terrific find! Based on other Yelpers, we decided to try Planter Paradise. We are so glad we did. The selection of pots, garden statues, accessories (saucers, wheeled platforms, etc.) was great, and the shelves were half-full, so I can't imagine how many additional choices there are when they are fully stocked. My daughter and I had fun looking at all of the different succulents they had - some really unusual. The pricing was also amazing. We purchased this beautiful fountain at literally half the price of other places we shopped. Donny cheerfully helped me load up a truck full of purchases and made sure they were secure in my vehicle. For an additional, reasonable fee they delivered the fountain and set it up and made sure it was working perfectly. Donny, Robert, and all the staff were helpful, and friendly. Don't be fooled by the reviews. I thought I hit jack pot for pottery needs but the place is half empty. The staff is rude and lazy. After walking around this mostly empty place I settle for a large pot located on shelve high above. I could not reach it and was heavy. Walk over to register were 2 gentleman were located. One heavier set just kinda stared at people and appeared to be displeased to help. He attempted to help us then ignore us while a elderly lady cut us off. We didn't make a big deal about it until he also ignore us. When I ask who was going to hep the heavier set dude gave us an attitude after initially calling us over. We didn't know what was going on or who was supposed to help us because no one was able to communicate anything. Just a bad attitude on a half empty lot. Don't waste your time. read more

Terrible experience with the service here today. I needed assistance getting a large concrete planter off of a high shelf (requiring a forklift), so I waited in line and when it was my turn made the request. The gentleman working the cash register said we'd go get it but instead started assisting the lady who was behind me in line. No explanation given, he just started answering her questions then walked away without a word. The other guy at the register gave us an attitude when we asked if they were still going to help us. We saw the original guy coming around the corner with a forklift, but he just drove right by us again not saying anything at all and over to the other woman who had been behind us in line to help with her request. There was absolutely no communication about what was going on and when or if they were going to help us. We felt completely ignored and disrespected. The place itself was pretty bare with tons of empty shelves, so the selection was also much smaller than I expected. Will be finding another place to shop moving forward. read more

I went to PP to get a white simple planter, but once there, I forgot all about it and was blown away by all the beautiful choices. They have big or small planters and oh so many colors! I love that some planters are unique from each other, even if they are the same color base. I am still experimenting with colors and will definitely be coming back to get a couple planters I saw to make my gazebo less boring and other rooms in the house. All the plants in my pictures are fake and only the planters were purchased there. I definitely recommend this place. The selection is amazing and prices reasonable. read more

Really nice folks there to assist with selection, loading up your purchased items and showing you the sale items as marked. Every time I go, they have a bunch of different items on sale up to 50% off! Really great deals there. Lots of ceramic and terracotta in so many colors,sizes and shapes. Rare and beautiful succulents found in the heart of the shop by the register. The best potting soils and soil additions for my preferences for all types of plants. This is our go-to store for shopping for pots. I told my friend about it and now she makes the long drive down there too. HUGE selection of pots. You'll see a lot of the same pots elsewhere but here there are SO MANY in one place, and so many varieties of sizes and colors and if you want two of the same thing you almost always find them. Planter Paradise also has some nice deals on sale items, and it's not just junk so we have been able to take advantage of the sales. The employees are nice and also they have some succulents here. I was so excited to go here and I really wish I could give it five stars. I heard about Planter Paradise from a Facebook group I am in. When I got there I was very impressed with the pot selection and pricing, they didn't have many plants to choose from but the customer service is where I was really let down. The white older male at the Cash register ask my friend and I what we were going to put in the pot we were buying, after we answered he mumbled under his breath "like I care." After this experience I posted in the group I heard about Planter Paradise from and found out many others have had bad interactions with the same man. I don't know if he is an employee or the owner but he really put a damper on my excitement for my purchase. I don't think I will be back because I don't want to support this behavior. read more
