That includes this tourist, who was vacationing nearby at the Downtown Embassy Suites. Regardless that Downtown Charleston is charming and rich in history, there are very few businesses catering to the essentials. They are Target, CVS, and Walgreens. When I shopped here it was with an appreciation of the essential goods that Walgreens sells. Right off the bat that is a souvenir. There are very limited places in Downtown to buy Charleston souvenirs. For the record, they were missing in action at Target. Without Walgreens I have some doubt that I would remember Charleston with a T-shirt and magnet. Sold at reasonable prices. The essential store came through for my brother and dad. Browsing the aisles I saw the standard grocery and general merchandise that the typical Walgreens sells. Fortunately I did not need the pharmacy services. Nor did I need alcohol thanks to the Embassy Suites Manager's Reception. The checkout process ran smoothly. There is a single cue that leads to checkout stations. In addition to selling essential goods this business retains the historic charm of Downtown Charleston. Although it is modern inside, it preserves the historic exterior of the former Millennium Music Building. My one complaint is that the pharmacy operates on limited hours. They operate Monday to Friday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM meal break. On weekends the pharmacy is closed. Emergencies and illnesses can occur on the weekend. In conclusion I give the Downtown Charleston Walgreens four stars. I appreciate the essential goods and pharmacy that it provides to the local residents and tourists.

Pitt Street Pharmacy is a historic pharmacy that opened in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina in 1937…read more It was founded by Washington "Wattie" Zeigler, RPh. More than just a place to get medicine, the pharmacy became a local gathering spot. Pitt Street is the center of Mount Pleasant's "old village" district, and the pharmacy became the heart. A soda fountain was added in the 1950s, and the pharmacy soon became a hangout known for serving up ice cream treats and their famous grilled cheese sandwiches. Pitt Street Pharmacy is also one of the oldest pharmacies in the Charleston area to practice compounding: creating customized medications to meet the specific needs of each customer. Today, in the era of mass-produced medications, only a handful of pharmacies still practice compounding. Kim "Kimbo" Richardson, RPh purchased the pharmacy in 1996. Upon his retirement in 2022, the pharmacy was taken over by Brandi Sherbert, who has worked there since her final year in pharmacy school. My family and I visited Pitt Street Pharmacy this past summer while we were visiting family in town. We had checked out Guerin's Pharmacy, which is the oldest pharmacy in South Carolina. We liked it there, but our cousins told us about Pitt Street and said it was even better than Guerin's. They weren't wrong. The place was like one of the old-fashioned pharmacies that you see in an old movie or a movie set in a bygone era. In fact, a scene was even filmed here for the 2004 film "The Notebook". The old soda fountain was beautiful, complete with classic red stools. We decided to sit at a booth. For lunch, my wife ordered a "Chicken Salad Sandwich" (chicken and chopped celery), our older son had a "Hot Dog" (beef frank with ketchup), and I had the "Linda's Club" (3 Layer sandwich with egg salad, lettuce, tomato, ham, cheese, mayo). We couldn't say no to some ice cream treats made with locally-produced Wholly Cow Ice Cream. I had a "Mint Chocolate Chip" shake, our older son had a "Double Oreo" shake, and my wife had a "Root Beer Float". It was so cool to step back in time at Pitt Street Pharmacy! We'll definitely visit again on a future trip to Charleston!

The counter makes you feel like you have stepped back in time and I love seeing all the kids lined up at the bar area eating or enjoying the sweet treats. We're big fans of the corn dogs, the ice cream, and milkshakes. Prices are great and they have a great old school candy selection, which my son loves! The servers are always so sweet to the kids and very polite and the service is fast! This is a gem in the community and it's such a valuable experience every single time we go.

I used to live around the corner from this Walgreen's before I became a Yelp Elite member. It is my…read morehonor to be the Duchess of this Walgreen's as well as two others. I love Walgreen's. I can't even get my prescriptions filled at Walgreen's anymore due to my insurance and I still shop at Walgreen's way more than CVS. Why do I go there? The biggest reason, honestly, is for their cigarette prices. They have cheaper cigarettes than most gas stations around town and way cheaper cigarettes than other pharmacies. I don't condone smoking.... but if you already smoke maybe you should check it out. They also have good deals all the time. This time I was in search for Gatorade since I just came back from the beach. They had a 2/$3 deal going on. They always have deals on everything I buy from there. Even the cigarettes! They have $.50 off packs regularly. I use the app and score major Walgreen's points and great coupons. Those Walgreen's points are worth real money at Walgreen's! The only thing that sucks is you don't earn and cannot redeem points for tobacco purchases, as well as a few other things like alcohol or dairy. Walgreen's staff is also usually way better than a lot of other places. They train their staff well. Props to Walgreen's management. I used to get my prescriptions filled at this pharmacy a couple of years ago. I loved the pharmacy staff! They were always so nice and remembered my name and could pull me up in the system without me saying a word. They are an excellent pharmacy staff, and the pharmacy is open 24/7 along with the rest of the store! I have so many good memories at this Walgreen's. Will I return? Time and time again. I love this place.
