HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I should have known from the minute he showed up in athletic shorts and barefoot things were off. Talked a lot, never attempted to tune it. Quoted his $1900+ to fix the "double strike" on a free spinet. These pianos are not worth that price so is he a scammer? Taking advantage of people? I won't go more into detail here, but AVOID!!! I hope you're reading this before and not after. read more

Do NOT trust this man! I can not believe I also fell victim to the "double strike" scam. When I told him that my piano now had different keys sticking (after his "double strike repair"), I tried contacting him but he ghosted me after ripping me off! I won't get my $1500 back and after reading these reviews I guess I got lucky that it wasn't more. This is why reviews are important. read more

Well I also fell for the "Double strike" scam. I Needed a piano tuned. Within 5 minutes, and only playing a couple of notes, Marc diagnosed my horrible double strike problem that, if not fixed would cause the piano to deteriorate rapidly. Now it went from $150 for a tuning to $1,950 to remove the action and take it to his shop for repair. I know nothing about pianos. This was my wife's piano. She was a piano teacher for 30 years but she died last December. I was giving the piano to the kids and just wanted to have it tuned. I wish I had checked Yelp before calling Marc. This seems like a pattern. Apparently every piano that he comes across is affected with this "double strike" syndrome. I got scammed out of $1,800 so I just had to let you know before you fall for it too. read more

We join other reviewers who fell for Marc's (dba Piano Doctor) "double strike" scam. We called Marc to tune our 22 year old, well maintained baby grand piano, which we have had since new. He sat down and played a short time and said we had a double strike problem. He could not tune our piano until this issue was resolved. He said the only way to correct this was for him to remove the action, take to his shop and repair. The maxium cost would be $2500, but could be lower. We could decline to fix the double strike but our piano would continue to deteriorate. When we asked for further explanation, he went into great detail and seemed very knowledgeable about pianos. We had no reason at the time to doubt his word so we agreed to have the work done. After several days Marc texted that the action needed a professional cleaning. Since the action was in his possession he would discount the cost of the cleaning by $100 and only charge us $700. This cost would be in addition to the work he was doing. Since our total cost with the cleaning could be as high as $3200, we declined the cleaning. We now sought the second opinions we should have done before proceeding. One source stated that it was never necessary to remove the action and we had been scammed. Another credible resource knew exactly who we were referencing before we mentioned either his name or business. Marc returned our piano's action and of course the charge was $2500. We declined any tuning or adjustments. If this rating system allowed a minus zero score that would be our rating. read more

I'm not impressed. My first sign was that he canceled appts on us twice. He blamed it on us for not responding when he reached out that he was on his way. We had an appt. Show up. Second sign, Marc was in my house for about 2 min and assessed the piano had a "double strike" key. Then, he told me he needed to take the keyboard and repair it for $1700. He was ready to go. He said he couldn't tune it without. At this point, I thought I was being oversold and needed a second opinion. Third, his website says he offers free quotes, but he did charge me an $89 trip charge. Finally, the second opinion, without mentioning names or business, knew right away I was talking about the Piano Doctor when I described the "issue." The second opinion came through and tuned the piano. This is just my experience. I've had my piano serviced numerous times, and "double striking" has never come up. I have two pianists in the house (one plays by ear), and neither have had issues. Their instructor mentioned it just needs to be tuned. read more

Marc is not a trustworthy businessman. We figured he's been around for decades - must be good, right? Well, I wish I had checked Yelp before hiring him, as I can see from other reviews that he scammed them similarly. We unfortunately fell for his "chronic multiple strike" scam and ended up paying him $3,425 total to do the following: deep clean our grand piano ($625), fix the made-up "emergency multiple strike problem" on the grand piano ($2,500), and tune two pianos ($300). Back story: Our A/C unit died in August 2023 and had to be replaced for ~$10,000. Our two pianos were in the 100-degree house for days, as the A/C couldn't be fixed quickly; understandably, they went badly out of tune. We are music teachers and needed the pianos fixed fast in order to resume work, so we tried to call our usual piano technician. Unfortunately he was unavailable, so we called Marc, who evidently preyed on the situation and our stress. (Side note: We even had our two young kids with us. What sort of person would scam a woman holding a newborn?) We now understand how badly scammed we were because our usual technician came today to tune the pianos. He said that Marc is infamous among the local piano technician community for doing this. They even have a saying: "Marc's double strike strikes again!" Not only did we overpay for the deep cleaning (our usual technician charges $300 for this service), but a double striking action is a trumped up action regulation problem that's simple to fix. As business owners, we are reticent to post something that could potentially harm another person's business. In this situation, however, we felt ethically obligated to warn others against this businessman's predatory tactics. Please learn from our mistake and do not hire Marc Mourier or anyone he works with. read more

I can't even believe how great this guy is. I have a piano that was bought by my grandfather on the day my mother was born in 1935. After she passed it was handed down to me. When we got it to my house I had someone come out and tune it who told me that the sound board had a crack in it and it would cost THOUSANDS of dollars to repair. Naturally this broke my heart. I later decided to get a second opinion and I called Marc. He came out that day and told me that it had a chronic case of double strike. He saved me sooooo much money and had it repaired a week later. He was so very professional and nice. He'll be the only person working on my piano forever. I'm so very pleased to have my mom's piano sounding as good as it did when I was a little girl. Thank you so very much. read more

AVOID THIS MAN AT ALL COSTS. he might be a great piano tuner, but he will stand you up for your appointment. First of all, I requested a Saturday appointment. He never confirms then randomly texts me on a Wednesday saying he's 10 minutes away! What?? I never set an appointment. But cool, I want the service. So I say I can leave my job and be there in 20! I confirm that he's texting the right person and he says yes. So I leave my job, get home in 18 minutes. He's not there... I wait, I text, still not there. And no response! Even 30 minutes later. He clearly is confused and is too much of a coward to text me back to admit his mistake and try to make it right. His solution is just completely ghosting on the customer. I wasted my time driving home in the middle of the work day to have him no show. Utterly unprofessional. No communication. Unacceptable. I have a pic of the chat chain too to prove he just ghosted! read more

I contacted Marc Mourier to tune my piano. He came to my house and said that he needed to remove the board from the piano and repair it because the hammers were doing a "double strike" and that he could not tune the piano and it would cost me $2500 for the repairs. I declined to do these repairs and paid him an $89 travel fee. I had the piano tuned last year and there was no mention of any double strike. I will use someone else to tune my piano. read more

I recently used Marc Mourier with Piano Doctor and would highly recommend his services. He stands out as the best technician I have ever used, and also the most inexpensive...sometimes a difficult combination to find. He restored our vintage Steinway from virtually unplayable to concert ready...WOW. I just wish other Yelp users would discover his craftsmanship. Very knowledgeable and straightforward. read more

You can't go wrong using Plano Piano Tuner. Very professional and nice too. The owner, Marc, went out of his way to offer high quality customer service. I recommend them completely. read more

Marc was a great find for tuning and fixing some broken keys on my Baldwin upright piano. He taught me a lot about proper care for this instrument. Thanks Marc read more

I had the piano tuner come out to assemble and tune my baby grand. My piano has been in storage and needed the moving straps removed. We finally got the straps removed, but he was unable to tune it for other reasons. He texted with an ETA prior to his arrival and was on time. I thought he was truthful in his assessment and it went smoothly. read more

Marc has brought new life into my ~50 year old Kholer Campbell Console. It had not been tuned in probably 30 years and had been moved three times before I landed back with me. I'm so happy to have my piano back and am loving relearning my favorite pieces. The piano needed more than just a tuning due to it's neglect. Marc was excellent at setting expectations and showing me exactly what work needed to be done. He quoted a repair price and stuck with it. He even delivered it two weeks earlier than I had expected. Marc was prompt and very communicative about expected arrival times or if he was going to be delayed. He was a pleasure to work with and I will definitely be using Marc for follow up tuning. read more

I own my family's 1905 Braumuller piano. I couldn't play around on it because it was so out of tune. I've wanted to restore it forever and when my wife and I decided we both wanted to learn how to play, I reached out to the Piano Doctor. What a great guy and wonderful at what he does! He completed the repairs needed and a matter of days and even put up with my barking dogs while tuning! I'll absolutely use him again when I need to tune it. Thank you Marc! read more

MARK screwed me. Scheduled an appointment with a large window for his arrival like a cable guy. He texted and then 4 min later he called me and told me he wasn't coming because I didn't answer my text. I replied to both within 8 min of the original text. He said he was too busy and wasn't coming. I'm busy too MARK!!! I have small kids, a full time job and heaven forbid I take a shower the moment you call when I finally get a break. I had 1 day off in the last 8, today! and I scheduled half of my day off to sit around waiting for MARK. Missed him by 4 min! Screw you MARK. You're not the only guy that can tune a piano in DFW and I'd recommend calling one of them over MARK. read more

We used Marc to tune our church's grand piano. He tuned it flat and now it not responding to our calls or messages. It's unfortunate and this could be out of character for him but it happened all the same. We are now trying to find someone to come in and fix it. We have a funeral in 3 hours so it's really sad that it wasn't done well. read more

WARNING - DO NOT USE: I would give him a 0-star if possible. My wife hired Marc to tune our Piano for a Christmas present this past December. $150 for a tune, seemed reasonable. Marc arrived and stated the piano had "multiple strike syndrome" and needed to be repaired at a cost of $950. He convinced us that the piano we paid $100 for 3 year prior was worth restoring. We hesitantly agreed. A week later he brought the internal mechanism back and installed it, he then tuned it (I did not watch this entirely but wish I had). We paid Marc and he left. The very next time I played the piano, there was a broken key (I had been playing this for 3 years and there was no broken keys prior to the repairs) and the sharps around the key were also negatively affected. I videoed the issue and sent it to Marc. He said he would take a look. Over the next 4 months Marc did not contact us save for the few times to ask us to leave him a "positive testimony b/c he works on referrals". Marc never scheduled an appointment. I called him in April and spoke on the phone with him and he agreed to set an appointment with my wife on either Monday or Friday. Three weeks go by (into May now) and he never did. I contact him again and he says he will be by on a Tuesday midday. I tell him no that wont work. I tell him I want him to complete his services which I'd paid for and his response was that he was hired to tune and fix the multiple strike, not a broken key. To fix the broken key will be another bill and trip charge. I tell him my piano keys were working for years until he "fixed" it and now they're broken. He did not care and would not fix it. I told him I would cancel a check in the amount to pay someone else to fix the keys and he threatened me that it would be a breach of contract. I am out $1100 and still have a broken piano when all I wanted was a $150 tune. In my opinion, this guy is a f*cking prick and a cheat. DO NOT USE MARC M. I would recommend using Bryce Pate instead because Bryce is honest and competent and services the same area that Marc does. read more

I recently bought an old Yamaha piano that needed restoration beyond the usual tuning. Mark did an excellent job and the sound coming from the piano is wonderful. I also did appreciate the fact that he was very punctual. read more
