I had a beautiful experience with a PA at Planned Parenthood today. Tiffany Butler. We were discussing the benefits of hormone therapy for post menopausal women . She was so supportive...Rooting for me all they...and very knowledgeable. More important to me , when I had ideas to add, she was open to hear them, curious about their implications ...(wtf ?!) I really wanted this visit to go well. I have loved Planned Parenthood in the past and completely support their mission, but unfortunately this was a very disappointing experience at this location. I understand that medical offices can have unexpected delays, but a little communication goes a long way, especially when people who arrived 45 minutes after me were seen within minutes. I confirmed my appointment multiple times by text, completed the online check-in the night before, about 12 hours in advance, and arrived 15 minutes early for my 2:00 PM appointment. After waiting an hour and a half and still being told nothing beyond "sorry," I canceled my appointment and left. read more

I had gotten a Teal Card/ Family pact card because I didn't have insurance one year. The next year nothing about my insurance/ living situation changed but they denied me. The woman that was on the phone was very rude from the beginning and made me cry. For some reason at another location, I was approved again for the Family Pact card and even the following years. I think it was just the woman that didn't want to renew it. She shouldn't be working there. She kept saying she was behind schedule and that's why she was stressed and very hostile. She asked me so many questions just to tell me at the end that she cannot approve me. read more

I didn't have insurance (for whatever reason, Medi-Cal hadn't kicked in yet). But needed to figure out why I was in off-and-on pain. I was really lucky to be able to check with Planned Parenthood, to see if the problems I was having was related to cervical cancer, fibroids, laceration (did something get cut up there?), or a cyst. I didn't know if I was having a major health problem and felt grateful I was able to get help without health insurance. I was treated with respect, the clinicians took my concerns seriously. We checked for every problem, referred me to an ultrasound, checked my iron, thyroid, testosterone. The staff were professional, and I less and less worried as more of those test verified it was not suffering from those problems. I hope people see what an meaningful service Planned Parenthood provides. While walking in and out of the clinic, I saw some protesters. And I felt a bit concerned whether patients or staff/clinicians are ever harassed because of the negative association the clinic has. I can't really express to those protesters why I feel that what they do is a disservice. But I am very glad I was able to receive medical care when I was not able to with my insurance read more

The staff attempted to separate me from my child to encourage a narrative that was different from our original appointment. The staff was pushing a shot when the appointment was clearly not for a shot. As a parent that was terrifying. As a financial donor, that was terrifying. This is not a safe place. It was a manipulative environment. As a Black woman that was terrifying. To not be heard. To be told what your life long doctor discussed at length with you, just days before, was just wrong. An injection cannot be undone. An implant can be removed. Terrifying. This type of behavior should be reported. read more

Their scheduling online is completely different from what they have. Came in right on time and they said I was 20 min late. Had to pull up my confirmation email. Then was told it would be a 2 hr wait bc of an emergency. If that was really the case, why did I never receive a courtesy call? I recently got new medical insurance. I called my regular OBGYN and found out that he did not take my new insurance. What is a girl to do?! It was like I was suddenly alone on a desert island with out my gynecologist. This man has been in my life since I was 20 years old. He delivered both of my children. I didn't know what to do or even want to think about looking for a new Dr. Then I thought, why not Planned Parenthood? I just needed my yearly physical. Nothing major. And why not put my money where my mouth is. I support Planned Parenthood politically why not also use their services. They take lots of different insurances. I cant say all but they will also see you if you don't have insurance. I paid my copay and they billed my insurance like any other Dr. would. Let me say that a major advantage going to Planned Parenthood for routine medical care is that they are open later for us working folks. I made an appointment for 6pm. I didn't need to leave work early for a Drs appointment. How convenient is that?! Also, you can schedule appointments on line. Its incredibly easy to see a Dr. I was very impressed with the facility. I really enjoyed the nurses and the Dr was fantastic. I received exceptional service. Planned Parenthood is more amazing than you will ever know. I've recommend Planned Parenthood multiple times to multiple people for all kinds of reasons dealing with women's issues. I wont fill this review with my stories, but feel free to ask me why Planned Parenthood is great. I would love to let everyone know. Do not discount their services. These people, might i add we're in a pandemic, are essential workers...witht thier own families and their own stuff going on yet they come through every day to provide FREE HEALTH CARE. i read a few reviews before comig to the center Nd was confused because the few friends I brought here had opposit opinions. Prenatal Review. Midwife Nilka is very kind and understanding, but the other girls who work there are very quick to assume and tell you no. Very short with me. They will leave you in the waiting room 30-60 minutes at times, but throw an entire appointment away and postpone for an entire month for being 10 minutes late. I will be 8 months by my next appointment and needed to be seen to go over some concerns that I have about my pregnancy. I have an iron deficiency and was suppose to have bloodwork done. There was no one else in the waiting room. They weren't overbooked. Just didn't care. I was late, because I ate something that made me throw up. I'm understanding when I come early and wait an hour to be seen, but they aren't. Who's the one who's pregnant? All other care is efficient, but limited. The location is surrounded by homeless and sometimes even protesters. I was even harassed for a dollar INSIDE their waiting room before being told to leave. I wasn't apologized to. I was going to make a review in the past for the way I was spoken to on previous appointments, but never did. read more

I had an appointment today at 9:40 and was told I couldn't get seen because they don't take my insurance. I wasn't aware I had insurance because at my appointment yesterday, a different person told me I didn't have it. So I ended up calling Aetna(my alleged insurance provider), and they told me I don't have insurance with them!! Not only was I not able to be seen at my scheduled appt because they were misinformed, but the next available appointment isn't until next Thursday!! They never apologized for the mixup or anything! I thought it was somehow amusing to see a "find us on yelp" sticker on a health clinics window but after my visit today I had to write a review. Without insurance I've been spending a lot on birth control. Recently my prescription from when I had insurance ran out of refills. I only came here for a prescription and left with a year supply of pills after they signed me up for a program. Super helpful, respectful of my privacy.. plus they have subtle ocean sounds playing in the offices. Nice touch. read more

I live in Pittsburg and work in Walnut Creek but go out of my way to visit the Planned Parenthood center in Concord for all of my "down under" needs. With the exception of the girl with the fetus tattoo on the back of her neck (who threw my birth control at me), everyone is really nice and have a real comforting way of handling people, which I think is important for all of the stressed out young girls that visit PP. I live in Berkeley but ended up at the Planned Parenthood in Concord because, first, of a terrible experience speaking with one of the front desk staff when I visited the El Cerrito center, and second, because I was already in the area. (About what happened at El Cerrito that had led me to Concord: I had gone in not knowing that it wasn't a drop-in clinic and had asked about the process of scheduling and appointment and wanted information about what Planned Parenthood offered. Although the El Cerrito clinic was completely empty, the front desk person seemed in a rush to hurry me out and did not clearly explain practically anything about the clinic, only insisting that I would be better off going to my school's health center without asking me for a clear picture of what I was looking for. Anyway...) The folks at the Concord clinic were very accomodating and, in spite of the many women in the clinic at the time, remained calm and was not annoyed that I really had no clue what the process was like. I must've gone up to the front desk person in Concord thrice, first to ask what I should do to start (i.e. paperwork), then to ask what to do next, and finally to ask when I would be seen (I had thought the time I was given was an appointment but did not realize that was just the check-in time, hence why I asked the desk folks so much). In spite of being a former sexual health educator myself (for my school's health center), I was very unexpectedly anxious about being at Planned Parenthood and the wait wasn't making me any less so. When I finally was seen, about 30 minutes after completing my paperwork, I was very glad I had waited for so long because the clinicians I saw were SO nice and understanding and were more than willing to offer me a plethora of options available, all free because of FPACT coverage (which you can apply for at the clinic when filling out paperwork). I ended up getting an HIV test and a gonorrhea/chlamydia test, and walked out with HELLA safer sex supplies. By hella, I mean: 13 months worth of hormonal contraceptives, 2 packs of emergency contraceptives, condoms, and lube. I hadn't asked for that many specifically and just told the NP that I was on BC before and wanted to get started on the same type I had been on before. She said she understood, went over some questions about my health, and said she would give me the aforementioned amount of items. I was amazed! That's A LOT of supplies. Having worked in the sexual health field, I knew that that's a ton and was very surprised but grateful that she provided so much because the entire trip took about 2 hours (including wait times, test times, clinician times, etc.) There's no way I'd be able to come back too frequently because of the time cost, so it was very nice of her to provide so much. So, overall, to recap: THE GOOD: -friendly, calm atmosphere -cable TV? -knowledgeable, giving clinicians -helpful front desk staff THE BAD: the wait! but that must mean it's a very popularly used clinic, right? After having to relocate back to the bay after almost 8 years in Sacramento, this PP location made the transition SO easy! My first appt, they had my entire record already and were prepared to see me! The people who work here are never rude, super sweet and make great conversation to ease your visit. My only issue is the wait time... sometimes they only have 1 doctor and a nurse or 2, so when they're short-staffed, it's effin ridiculous. I think my longest trip here was 4 hrs!! Just for a depo shot! Ridonkulous... Otherwise, love this location! read more

Pros: clean, good location. But are you kidding me? Had to wait 3 hours WITH an appointment, staying 1.5 hours past the closing time, for a basic checkup and prescription. I can't believe anyone finds this acceptable -- do they only have one clinician? A few people left after waiting several hours because they couldn't wait several more. Everyone waiting looked miserable. I sat and watched 6 episodes of the same dang tv show while waiting for my girlfriend. I don't care if this place and the people are nice... If everyone has the same complaint about EXTREMELY long wait times regardless of appointments, that's a crucial flaw and warrants a lower rating. This is crazy, and I feel very good about giving a bad rating. read more

Very long wait!!! I had an appointment at 2:20pm. I came in around 2pm and filled out some paperwork. But my name didn't get called until after 3pm!! I got called around 3pm and went to the other waiting room for another 45 mins! Seriously!! I would've left but fortunately, I had nothing else going on that day. But damn, that is unacceptable. Planned Parenthood sucks overall. They don't take walk-ins to just treat you and give you medicine or antibiotics anymore. They also don't answer their phones either to make it easier to make an appt. and their online services give you days-weeks appts. Very frustrating. read more

Two stars because I've gone to this location several times for basic things and always got good service. Last trip however really disappointed me. I mad an appointment because I KNEW I had a urinary tract infection, told them I had it for a few weeks. They've diagnosed me for that in the past and gave me medicine. Except this time the nurse says test showed negative for UTI. I told her that's incorrect, I know how it feels. I was sent away with nothing. A week and a half later I just spent 5.5 hours in John Muir emergency for a UTI that traveled up my kidneys and caused me a kidney infection. Pretty pricey bill that could have been avoided and very painful. read more

Came in today for refill and was called right on appt time. Everyone was really nice and made the process easier than some other clinics in the bay. Jessica was super nice and got things done. Waited a bit after the initial check in but in a private room so I dont mind. Parking is plentiful, I will come back when I need to next time. read more

Came here a while ago to pick up a year supply of birth control, I called in a couple of days ahead of time to schedule a pickup window since I had a recent blood pressure on file. Came in during that pickup window to be sat in the back for 20 minutes, and when I was brought my birth control it was only 5 months' worth because they had expired stock. Super annoying since I literally was instructed that I could requested year's worth no problem and was told I could be given that just two days before coming in but whatever. Fast forward to when I needed to pick up the other half, I schedule a pickup window as they asked, which was something like 10A-3p, I confirm that I will get the 7 months I had left on my prescription, and they said yes. I asked if I would be able to just simply pick up without waiting since everything they needed was on file, and again was told yes. Come in two days later at 2:20p and was told it be a 30 minute wait, I said I can't wait that long I need to be a work. THE RECEPTIONIST literally snapped back "you can't just wait 30 minutes", I snapped back and said, "NO, I have to be at work and I was told I would be able to simply pick it up and go since everything is on file already." She got really rude and said she is canceling my appointment, again this was a pickup window, not an appointment. Which I told her. I didn't need to see anyone for anything and all my information is on file which I confirmed two days before. All she needed to do was match my identification and insurance to what was on file and have someone give me my prescription, hell I would have been fine with a short wait of 5 minutes or so. Anyway, I went to a different location a couple of weeks later and was completely taken care of and they were so nice when I called ahead to triple double-check that I could get exactly what I needed, when I got there they checked my information at the window and handed me my prescription. Despite not living near this location, I wanted to stay with them since I have been to this one so much and I'm comfortable in the area but this is not my first or even second encounter with really sassy and rude receptionists. read more

Well I came in their the other day and I really had bad service with the lady in the front because she was very rude to me and not understanding at all about my current situation and needing birth control pills. I wouldn't recommend this facility to any woman who needs birth control pills I would much rather talk to my doctor now instead of going to planned parenthood. read more

The time right now is 4:21 yeah over two hours here just to be seen. You obviously schedule an appointment to be seen at a specific time now I'm going to be late over an hour and a half to work. I was able to get a same-day appointment online and came out in about an hour & a half with 13 months of birth control pills. They also told me they can help me with any other reproductive issues I may have in the future such as a urinary tract infection. Planned parenthood is a lifesaver, as I suffer from endometriosis which results in extremely painful menstrual cramps and birth control makes them more manageable for me. I was very apprehensive about visiting Planned Parenthood due to my young age (16). I was afraid of how I would be treated and I am now so grateful that I decided to make the trip! I was there today for my first appointment and I had to create a yelp account and write this review as soon as I got home! I wrote this review for any other teenagers who are hesitant on making the decision. As previously mentioned, the staff is incredible. Each and every one of them was courteous and understanding. The front desk staff was welcoming and helped me apply for state funded health insurance. I also didn't have to bring any documents with me, but you do need to know your social security number! Don't be afraid to ask them any questions about the paperwork! They've heard all the same questions before and their job is to make your visit as accommodating as possible. The wait turned out to be longer than expected, and I had read these reviews before so I prepared myself for a long visit. My check-in time was 11:20 and I got out around 2:15. My only advice would be to schedule your appointment on a day when you don't have work/prior commitments, etc. Once you are in the practitioner's office, it's a breeze! I was there to obtain birth control, and they ask you simple questions about your health and check your vitals as well as have you take a urine test to check for gonorrhea and chlamydia. You are also given the option to take an HIV test for no cost and you have your results by the end of the visit. After, you will need to wait about another 20 minutes to see the clinician who will give you your supplies. She helped me decide which day would be best to start taking my pills and was overall a very friendly person. Since I am a minor, I was given everything for absolutely no cost at all and all I had to do was fill out a little extra paperwork! Not only was I given the pills, but I got 28 condoms, lube, and emergency contraceptives. It was much more than I expected and I am so grateful for not only the supplies but the care and support I had received from the staff members. If you are feeling anxious about making an appointment at Planned Parenthood, just go for it! It might make you nervous but it's important to remember that each of the clinicians and practitioners have the same views on sexual health as you do. I went to the Concord clinic today because Walnut Creek didn't have any available appointments, so this was my first time coming to the Concord center. Pros: - MUCH better parking. In fact, they have a big parking lot rather than only half of a small parking lot, like in WC. - Bigger waiting room, where they were playing HGTV which is nice since it seems the WC center can only play movies. - Less busy overall. I managed to get scheduled at 12:40 PM, which is the first appointment that they have after lunch. I was completely done and out of there in a little less than an hour, which was awesome. Even when I left there were only a couple people in the waiting room so I didn't get the impression that they were so busy that the wait would be that long. - I was able to chat with the actual doctor for longer to get the medical knowledge and services I wanted. At the WC center, they've been more rushed so my time with them has been shorter. - There's no protesters outside this one! Cons: - Slightly smaller offices. I thought the rooms in WC were small, but these seem to be any smaller. My doctor empathize and agreed with me about the really small rooms. She explained that they are like that because they split rooms in half so they could see more people at one time. - When discussing birth control options, my nurse appeared to ignore what I was wanting and instead insisted I go for another form and pushed making an appointment for that. Needless to say, I'm a bit distressed that the option I wanted was so quickly dismissed by her. However, this isn't my first experience with this issue. It really varies with medical professions on whether they are willing to work with me or merely push their own agenda. - I noticed that the volume on the TV in the waiting room and the radio in the offices were quite loud, so it was very obvious that they were on. It made it a little difficult to read while waiting. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my experience. I got the impression that they don't get as much service as the WC location so they're really trying to make it a good experience for those who come. read more

I actually went too it this clinic recently and I would like to point out that this is the most cleanest, professional, and welcoming Planned Parenthood I have ever been too. The staff were so nice, etc. I will be coming back not just for the supplies but also on how much they actually care and want to help their customers. read more
