When we transferred our assets to Vanguard, the representatives there were appalled at how PlanMember was not following basic industry (and FINRA) standards. If you ever want to get your money back out from them, expect it to take a few extra months. They will do everything in their power to ignore requests and drag their feet. For all those people trying to get your money, don't hesitate to report them to FINRA, as that usually results in more prompt action. The user interface is atrocious. read more

Wow, I just read Zoe G's post from 1/6/22 and I literally just experienced the same dreadful experience. I signed up for Plan Members about 8 years ago. At first, friendly, helpful and hands-on and then each year I heard less and less from my planner. At the minimum I would expect an annual meeting to reassess risk and retirement plans. My fiance's long time planner (Edward Jones) reaches out to him often (multiple times a year) informing him of stock options and checking in on his investments. Mine (Chris Janeway now based out of Dana Point, CA) has reached out to me zero times in the past four years. I decided to get a quote from Edward Jones and their rates were significantly lower AND they actually work with you! So, I made the choice in November 2021 to switch financial planners...same story as Zoe, it took multiple emails, phone calls, forms sent and resent over the past 4 (almost 5 months) to switch my accounts. It took until last week, April 2022 to get all of my accounts moved over. My new financial planner was absolutely appalled at the lack of competency and feet dragging of Plan Members. Thank GOD I made the switch and can officially be done with Plan Members. read more

School Board employees that offer this vender, don't do it. Upon retirement I have been trying for 3 months to move my 403b and they have not helped at all. Every time I submit what they ask for, they write with something else I need to provide. They charge too many fees. read more

I received a letter saying it was their second attempt in notifying me about my account information needed to be updated. I was told to fill out the information on the back of the form and mail it back. I don't have a 403B, never have. I find it uncomfortable this company is fishing for information, my work status and my income level. They have my address and my cell phone number. The way this is worded is misleading and demanding. I deal with unwanted phone calls daily, now I have to deal with misleading mail too. I have money to invest, but certainly would not consider a company that feels this is an appropriate way to earn a client's trust. Shame on you. read more

Ha Ha - why am I not surprised by their reviews. This company has been sending me zero balance statements for over a year. I have called 3 times to get them to stop - figuring they would not want to incur the unnecessary billing expense. For some reason, they can not delete the account or stop the annoying statements from being sent. When I called today I asked if they could help me or should I just leave a negative review. They wanted me to mail fax or mail in my request because they can not "see" what they are mailing me. Really? I thought this was the 21st century. read more

I have been trying to roll our 403b account to an IRA account with another firm. They have pulled every trick in the book to stall the transfer. The latest is they said that the new firm filled out the transfer wrong. Both I and the new firm have reviewed the paperwork and it is complete and correct. I'm about to file a complaint with the State regulatory agency regarding this behavior. Invest your money somewhere else ! read more

Dear teachers and educators: STAY AWAY from this horrible excuse of a company. I foolishly opened a 403b account with them, and when I realized that they were a total ripoff with a terribly designed website, fourth-rate customer service, subpar returns, and **excessive** fees, I filled out forms to move my account to Vanguard/Newport Group 403b. They waited eight business days to close my account, and not surprisingly waited until the day the S&P 500 tanked to pull out the funds. After they pulled my funds out at a market low, it has been nearly **THREE MONTHS**, and that six-figure check has been magically "lost in the mail" TWICE from Planmember Services. I walked through the agents TWICE on how to re-issue a check since they claimed "oh, it must have been lost in the mail." Vanguard/Newport audited my account and checked for the exact amount of the alleged check that was cut by Planmember. There was no check cut. I am going to a lawyer tomorrow in NYC and filing formal complaints with the SEC, FINRA, and SIPC. This company cannot do the simple task of mailing a check from a closed account to a new company. They've had a total and complete dereliction of their fiduciary duty, and I will see to it that they pay legally. STAY AWAY from this company. They should be banned from ever doing business with school districts, and they should be featured on consumer reviews across the web so others don't make the GRAVE mistake of investing with them. read more

Crappy returns. High fees. Website that works sometime, but not usually. Nobody makes money but them.

I wish I could give this place no stars whatsoever. As mentioned above, their returns are mediocre but their fees are high. I am trying to help my mother transfer her money out of here to Vanguard but this process has taken over a month!!! It seems like they are just stonewalling so we get frustrated and give up trying to transfer. Their customer service is pathetic. I cannot wait until we are done with this company!!! read more
