This company is THE WORST. It's been over two months since I requested a full distribution. I've had 5 conversations with three different people and they keep throwing the words "compliance department" around and requesting more forms and documents. Do not EVER let them manage your money. If you scan the other one-star reviews, you'll find that stalling, making up rules, and ignoring customers appears to be PlanMember's regular way of doing business. I inherited my mother's retirement account after her death in June 2023. It's now May of 2024, and PlanMember still hasn't rolled over that money to my inheritance account. They throw up barriers (I need a medallion signature guarantee, but they won't provide info I need to obtain the MSG), they appear to simply disregard correspondences I've sent them (pro tip: their fax doesn't work, and if you say this on the phone, the rep will give you an email to which you can send unencrypted personal data like your SSN), and most horrifyingly, the communication I have had from them is almost entirely people trying to sell me financial products. Like, my dudes: my mom died, I don't want to talk about investing strategies. PlanMember's behavior has had real financial consequences for me, as I've been unable to distribute the tax burden of this inheritance to the full 10 years we have to do so. I will also have to pay maximum tax on an unnecessary minimum annual withdraw, because they continue to stall. I advise you have a lawyer on speed-dial. This institution has been absolutely rotten to me. Run, don't walk, far away from them. read more

I had a small account with PlanMember, only $157. When I tried to close the account in October 2023, I submitted my paperwork through my broker as listed on the PlanMember website. I signed the forms (as can be seen in the email correspondence attachments to my broker), but PlanMember says the forms were not signed. That is inaccurate, and even if they believed it to be the case, they had a fiduciary duty to contact me to resolve any such matters. Presently, the account is worth $0.23 (twenty-three cents), with all of the money going to fees. I have not benefited one penny from this account, but PlanMember has lied and taken every penny, save for $0.23. I have the signed form in my email account so there can be no doubt the form was properly filled out and signed. Also, my broker was excellent, and I had no problems with him. Worst financial group for investing and retirement. They are outdated and have very difficult procedures to do or change anything. They email the wrong forms and then send a letter that you submitted the incorrect form. You have to snail mail their 50 forms to them to get anything done, there is no secure messaging and uploads. Seriously? My advisor died and my new advisor, M. George, never even contacted me to "advise" me of a new relationship. When I asked this "advisor" for some assistance on changes, he emailed me to call a number to have some forms sent. Very incompetent group of people, very outdated procedures and web presence. I highly recommend Charles Schwab if your looking for amazing customer service and a company that answers the phone and actually wants to assist. read more

When we transferred our assets to Vanguard, the representatives there were appalled at how PlanMember was not following basic industry (and FINRA) standards. If you ever want to get your money back out from them, expect it to take a few extra months. They will do everything in their power to ignore requests and drag their feet. For all those people trying to get your money, don't hesitate to report them to FINRA, as that usually results in more prompt action. The user interface is atrocious. read more

Wow, I just read Zoe G's post from 1/6/22 and I literally just experienced the same dreadful experience. I signed up for Plan Members about 8 years ago. At first, friendly, helpful and hands-on and then each year I heard less and less from my planner. At the minimum I would expect an annual meeting to reassess risk and retirement plans. My fiance's long time planner (Edward Jones) reaches out to him often (multiple times a year) informing him of stock options and checking in on his investments. Mine (Chris Janeway now based out of Dana Point, CA) has reached out to me zero times in the past four years. I decided to get a quote from Edward Jones and their rates were significantly lower AND they actually work with you! So, I made the choice in November 2021 to switch financial planners...same story as Zoe, it took multiple emails, phone calls, forms sent and resent over the past 4 (almost 5 months) to switch my accounts. It took until last week, April 2022 to get all of my accounts moved over. My new financial planner was absolutely appalled at the lack of competency and feet dragging of Plan Members. Thank GOD I made the switch and can officially be done with Plan Members. read more

I received a letter saying it was their second attempt in notifying me about my account information needed to be updated. I was told to fill out the information on the back of the form and mail it back. I don't have a 403B, never have. I find it uncomfortable this company is fishing for information, my work status and my income level. They have my address and my cell phone number. The way this is worded is misleading and demanding. I deal with unwanted phone calls daily, now I have to deal with misleading mail too. I have money to invest, but certainly would not consider a company that feels this is an appropriate way to earn a client's trust. Shame on you. read more
