Getting ready for tequila
Brittany H.

The restaurant has a ambiance, great music, friendly staff, and good food. We arrived and they had live music. Forgot to mention we came for Thanksgiving. We had the option to have the Thanksgiving menu of the regular menu. We had the regular menu. We order the New York strip, salmon, wedge salad, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and Mac and cheese. Everything was wonderful. Definitely recommend for a nice romantic dinner. A little pricey. Great for special occasions:)

Sea Bass En Papillote

I found the smoked bourbon cocktail to be fairly watered down. It did not express the Makers Mark well at all. For appetizer we ordered Grilled Octopus. That had an firm but very chewable texture. The grilled flavor was prominent but not overpowering. For my main I ordered the Sea Bass en papillote. I found the bass to be overly lemony and not particularly flavorful as a fish. The side dish of potatoes was large, but just a basic goopy buttery, too gummy mush. Overall at the price point, I'd say I thought it was OK. Next time I'd order a steak.

Best drinks EVER (alcoholic or non), best service, and not so good food. The grilled octopus was undercooked and fishy, the salmon was very fishy, the lobster bisque and the tuna tartar were too salty. SO I would go for drinks and good overall ambiance, but not to eat.

Food was good at a great price. Small portions so if you're hungry order more. Wait staff very nice and accommodating. We went there at 4pm so place was empty. Can't t comment on how wait staff is during rush

excellent food and service highly recommend Great Chef Great staff Pleasantly surprised will definitely return and be a regular

Risotto

The service was excellent! We got the brisket (slightly dry but very good) filet mignon, risotto, grilled veggies, mashed potatoes, fries and cheesecake. Would definitely recommend!

Cedar Planked Salmon, BBQ Sampler, Mashed Potatoes, Macaroni & Cheese

Not one of my favorite places. During our visit we noticed it would rain at the drop of a whim so I was confused as to what they would plan to do if we were mid meal and a downpour happened but thankfully we didn't have to find out. I did request to be sat inside for this purpose however I was told those tables were for reservations only which brings me to my next complaint. I tried multiple times (to no avail) to make a reservation ahead of time at this establishment. I tried calling and emailing (with no response). I noticed on their voicemail they noted they did not have availability until the following month, which seemed to be untrue as we were able to get a seat without a reservation without any problem. Finally we just decided to stop by and chance them having an open table which they did. Our first clue should have been that the hostess was trying to attract patrons walking by to come in. It has been my experience that typically restaurants that have to resort to that type of advertisement usually are not the best locations to dine in. In any event, the pictures on their yelp looked appealing so we decided to give it a try. I did not care the service nor the food quality of this place. We ordered the BBQ sampler and the cedar planked salmon. I returned my salmon and had to request my salmon to be fully cooked. The ambiance of this place is dim so I would be mindful of when enjoying dinner that you are eating outside and keep an eye out for bugs both near your person and near your food. The concept seems to be open air and it seems as tho they purposefully place diners nearest to street view to give the appearance that they are busy as to attract more patrons, even though we requested to be sat inside. Overall 2 stars for service and food. I would spend my money elsewhere.

Brie Cheese with Green Tomato Jam, Roasted Endives, & Walnuts (YUMMY!)

We stumbled upon Plank our last night in town. It is a block off of 5th Avenue and kind of hidden, but this was our favorite restaurant in town. Plank reminded me of Sonora Prime on 5th, but significantly more affordable with the same quality. The atmosphere was incredible, the food was on point, and the service was much better than I would have expected, given the entire front-of-the-house staff looked to be in their early 20s. We had a small meal, but everything was really good. While we waited for our entrees, they brought out a small plate of bread and what seemed like a banana hummus (not sure), but it was great. We ordered the brie appetizer and it was covered with a very light baked shell and set in a sweet green tomato jam. One of the best brie appetizers I've had in years. We also tried the Sweet Corn Soup and it was quite good. A tad sweet for my taste, but all of the flavors were still amazing. For the main course, we had the Filet cooked medium-rare. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was very good. It was a quality cut of meat. They serve it with a mushroom sauce on the side, but it was not necessary (though it was tasty). The atmosphere and music were what took this place to the next level. The decor was very similar to some of the high-end restaurants in town (like Sonora Prime) and the music was kind of techno-trance-tropical. Check out Easy Tiger by Geju and you'll see what I mean by the type of music. All in all, I cannot say one bad thing about this place. If you are in Playa del Carmen and you want a good steak in a hip atmosphere, Plank is for you.

This attractive restaurant was located right in front of our hotel. We wanted to have a cocktail and a quick bite to eat so we gave them a try. Our drinks were beautiful, creative and delicious. We ordered only one dish (scallops and pork belly), and it was fantastic. I have never had pork belly prepared better than they did here. The scallops were also done to perfection. If we had more time in Playa, we would definitely have eaten here again and if we come back, it will definitely be on our list of places to repeat.

Seafood samy

Walked by this restaurant and it looked so nice that we decided to have dinner here. It was a wonderful meal. The restaurant gave us flat bread with a cream cheese spread as a starter. The dip was so good! We also ordered the seafood sampler, the shrimp and the bacon wrapped scallops were the highlight. I likely wouldnt order this again for the price. I had the short rib for dinner and it was a great dish, the mashed potatoes and the sauce made the dish amazing. The meat was a bit gamey. My bf had the catch of the day, which was grouper wrapped in paper, it was lemony and light. I had the smoked old fashioned which was well made and a fun experience. All in all, solid place to try when in town!

Nice restaurant in Play del Carmen. We were given this place as a recommendation from a friend. This place was definitely good, and the ambiance was nice, but did have its flaws... Ambiance/Service: The service staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and the place was very modern and gave off a very nice vibe. My only complaint here, would be the smell, and it wasn't necessarily their fault, but the breeze pulled in a smell that unfortunately hurt our desire to eat... Food/Drinks: The drinks here were very tasty and the food was good. I cannot say the food was great, but it was good. We had the rib-eye steak, which was definitely cooked and seasoned wonderfully and it came with a rock stone for you to cook additionally if you need to. Would recommend this. The sides we ordered was the artichoke and the corn. Unfortunately, neither of those sides were tasty and we were not satisfied with them... We also had the seafood bisque as well as the baked brie. Both of these were very delicious and we were very satisfied with them. This is a nice place and the staff is very friendly. Their food is also good, but there were a few items (sides) that we were just not super happy with, but all in all a good restaurant and would check it out if you are in this area.

Mash Potatoes!
Inociana S.

We came here for my friends birthday and the food here was gooooooood. We all got the salmon, and got shareable sides (Mac and cheese, corn, and mash potatoes). All the food was bomb! The drinks were very delicious as well. For someone who barely likes salmon, I would eat it again! That's how good it was, it was so fresh and cooked to perfection. But the service, that was on another level. I told the waiter it was my friends birthday and he went above and beyond (sad I don't remember his name). They gave my friend a birthday shot and a free dessert. The waiter was so nice, funny, and the rest of the staff was very enthusiastic! The owner even took time to speak with is. Superb service and superb food, highly recommend!!!

Brunch buffet of fresh fruits, cured meats, deviled eggs, yogurt with fruit compote. And more!

For my entrée, I had the skirt steak, and it was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The sweet potato with honey and cinnamon was absolutely delicious. My only real complaint is the portion sizes on a couple of items. The salad was very small, and I would have loved a more generous serving. I also ordered an amaretto sour. It was a little weak at first, so I asked for more amaretto, which made it better, but it still wasn't quite as strong as I prefer. The service was phenomenal. The staff was attentive, kind, and genuinely friendly throughout the entire experience. I felt well taken care of and truly enjoyed myself. I would definitely return.

My girlfriend takes food very seriously so it's hard to find good spots and this place really impressed her. We came back two days in a row to try different plates and they all slapped. (Chile Rellenos, quesadillas, salsa wheel, tacos, ceviche). The drinks were amazing as well. (Pina Colada, margarita - they have happy hour 4pm- 6pm) All of the above would be enough in itself but the staff was really friendly and accommodating without doing too much. I.e They don't come across as fake. Anyways, if you are looking for a spot to try in Playa Del Carmen, eat here at least once and see what's up.

No gimmicks, just seriously good tacos. The tacos were packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and served hot and fresh every time. You can taste the quality and the technique especially in the way the meat is cooked and carved. Everything felt simple but done right, which honestly is what makes a taco stand out. The atmosphere is lively and busy (for good reason), but service moves quickly and efficiently. It feels like the kind of place locals actually eat at, not just a tourist trap with hype. We fully intended to try different taco spots around Playa del Carmen... but after our first visit, we couldn't resist coming back. When a place makes you change your food itinerary, you know it's worth it. If you're in Playa and debating whether it lives up to the hype it does!!

Location 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4/5, Drinks 5/5, Clientele…read more2/5 *more on that below* This spot has one of the best beachside settings in Playa del Carmen. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
