Been going to Planet Subs for as long as I can remember and they still hit pretty often! I went on a busy night recently and they've really pared things down. It's almost strictly carryout and best to order ahead of time online. Went with the turkey club (always) and it was made well with tons of turkey on it. Could've used some more mayo but it was all good. The prices are around $15 with tax and tip but what isn't these days? That seems to be the new going rate for sandwiches. My family doesn't really like the subs here so this is a quick staple when I'm on my own for dinner or out running around! read more

Went on my lunch break and basically spent my lunch break waiting for a half turkey sandwich. HALF! yet two other customers are out the door with order in hand. Yet I was the one who ordered before them, no they didn't get a salad either. Either you're racist or just forgot but still, I ended up hungry and late from my break. Asked for a refund but im still not seeing anything so if you all are that down bad you need to keep 10.50 go ahead , not coming back. I see why so many of your spots closed doors. read more

It has been at least a decade since I had been in a Planet Sub location and about 25 years since I was a regular customer and by regular I mean 4-5 times a week for over 2 years. In the early 90's I ran a record store next to the original Planet Sub (Yellow Sub) on the campus at KU. The employees there and I had a little deal worked out, they got unlimited CD's to play in the store and I got a small sub for lunch. I have made my way through that menu several times over, but always came back to the Beefeater, The Green Turkey and the Tuna Bacon Melt. This weekend I ventured in to the South Plaza location for the first time. The space is huge and nothing like the small cramped original Lawrence location that has since been torn down. The memories came flooding back as soon as the lady traded me my 7 of clubs playing card for a 12" Beefeater wrapped in foil. The unmistakable smell of the fresh baked bread and the overwhelming odor of bacon took me back to my happy place as soon as I peeled back the wrap. The warm roast beef and bacon and the melty cream cheese with cool tomatoes, lettuce and mayo on hot crispy bread is just a masterpiece that other sub shops can only dream of replicating. 5 stars for standing the test of time! read more

Since moving to Kansas City from Western NY, I've been looking for a good local sub shop. After looking on Yelp for subs in Kansas City, I came across Planet Sub. Even though they've grown into a chain, this place originated in Kansas so I felt I had to give them a chance. I've been craving a good, foot-long sub, NOT a sandwich and on that front, Planet Sub delivered! I grabbed a "whole" Super Hero sub (similar to an Italian BMT from Subway) and I will say, it tasted excellent! The flavors for the sub were spot on and it was big enough where I didn't need any sides to go with it. The bread was nice and soft and I liked the fact that they toasted it too. I wish the sub was a bit thicker at the end of the day though. As for this specific location, it was nice and clean on the inside but I was surprised at how empty it was at 6PM on a Saturday! I was able to walk right up to the counter and place my order without any issues. It took only a few minutes for my sandwich to be made and they brought it to me, all bagged up. Overall, I was very pleased with the sub and would love to try a few others on their menu at some point but I don't feel a real urgency to return. read more

I haven't been to planet sub in years and I was in the neighborhood so I decided to stop in. I honestly was impressed by the variety the menu offered. I forgot the name of the sandwich I got, but it shows how memorable it was. I was unimpressed with the construction of the ingredients, it was different things each bite. The bread was incredibly thick. I asked to add on ingredients and didn't see it in the final sandwich. I don't plan on returning. read more

I've been coming here since they remodel this place. It was so close to my workplace back in the days and just recently coming back bought back some memories. Lots of seatings and tables for everyone. Ordering food is very easy and food comes out fairly quick too. The toasted bread and their foil wrap around it.... Just feels so nogalistic to me. I enjoyed their buffalo chicken to kick it up or their crab californian which has guacamole, crab and cream cheese. Still tasty like before. read more

I have been going to Planet Sub since I was but a teenager. Although I didn't go to this location, I was absolutely in love with the Yellow Sub in Lawrence, on the KU campus! It had been several years since I had been back to this Planet Sub location on Main Street; and, even though a bit reluctant to go at first, I did so on the recommendation of a fellow Yelper and was pleasantly surprised. Planet Sub was just as I remembered it, which is a fairly good thing. The sandwiches here won't blow your mind away, but they are solid sammies on tasty fresh baked bread at a reasonable price point. They still had my two favorite sandwiches: the Creamy Club and Dagwood's Dream. The Creamy Club (like many of their other sandwiches has a good amount of cream cheese on it) plus turkey, bacon, sprouts, and some other fixin's. The Dagwood has loads of meat on it like pastrami, ham, & roast beef. Both of these sandwiches are a good filling meal and I imagine that the rest of their sandwiches are pretty good as well; they do have a huge selection! Parking here can be crazy at lunch, just so that you know ahead of time. Also, I know that they offer delivery service, but I have never taken advantage of that so I cannot attest to the quality of the service. Overall, I'll keep returning to pSub for their yummy and fairly healthy subs! Oh and a nice touch: they include the calorie counts of all the sandwiches on the menu board if you are watching your weight or counting calories. read more

It was more of a grinder than a sub. The bread to filling ratio was way off. If I go back, I would try something different.

I will go out of my way to eat at planet sub because the ingredients are clearly high quality and the service is fantastic. The bread is cooked fresh every day and the deli meets are cut thick from good pieces of meat. I've had everything on the menu and highly recommend their flagship sandwich, the Planet Sub. If you're a frequent planet sub consumer, like I am, you should also get their mobile app. It's great for pre orders and they give you every 7th or 8th sub for free! I also got a sub for my birthday. read more

Boy was a fan of this place before going Gluten Free, and I was extremely excited to see that they have fresh Baked Gluten Free bread! So I went in today with my free Birthday Sub deal, and to find out I was only charged $1 upcharge for the GF Bun, I was over the moon. Now I'm not a vegetarian but boy oh boy do I crave their Pesto Bello. Tempeh Parmesan, and their Veggie Grinder subs. To me they are better than the Turkey subs. Almost forgot, the Gluten free bun was light, fluffy and very tasty! I enjoyed it WAY more than Udi's frozen buns! read more

Sorry but when staff are talking with customers with their masks around their chins and the guest also removes their mask - it defeats the purpose of wearing the mask. Good ol' P. Sub. There are so many great sandwiches here I almost feel guilty for falling into the rut of always ordering a meatball sub. Notice I said *almost*. I love the fact that it's locally owned, that they deliver a quality product, and that they care about sustainability. And this location (I don't know that others don't) offers breakfast catering. There is the surprise it's a 4 star spot, but for what for its convenience factor It's a regular. Being forgetful I love I can order and pay from the app. The Dagwood with ham, roast beef and pastrami it's easily my favorite. I like the beefeater with its use of cream cheese makes it a delicious option to the basics. The bread is fresh and usually has a nice crisp to it, not overly thick but good for most of the subs, kinda annoying for hosting the meatball but I don't usually get that here in any case. This spot is popular during lunch hours and parking can be a pain but it's still tolerable. Have fun exploring the menu. read more

Store house should be marketed properly. Sunday they close at 4pm at main st location...South Plaza not 8pm.

I am a decades long Yello Sub/Planet Sub fan. Love the sandwiches. Unfortunately it looks like the service at the South Plaza location has fallen off a cliff. Has the location closed recently? I have tried to get some sandwich goodness twice in the last week around 4-5 in the afternoon only to be met with closed doors and no notice that their hours have changed from the posted 10-9 daily. read more

I love sandwiches-- they're pretty much my #1 lunch item. Planet Sub's has great service and fab food! I love a sandwich place that has hot sandwiches, I got the chicken club with banana peppers--obvi! (ps huge plus that they have these, some places DON'T! travesty I say). They also have the much needed salt and vinegar kettle chips for side items, and cookies (which I cannot vouch for as I did not taste). I found out they have call ahead ordering, which I will def use before my next visit! read more

I don't think I've ever had a bad sandwich from here. Since I don't eat meat, Subway just won't cut it for me. Planet Sub is my favorite sandwich place in town, for a number of reasons: 1) the email deals I get (they even give you a free 6-inch on your birthday... Thanks Planet Sub) 2) the daily deals they do anyway 3) they have a LOT of great vegetarian options! (And you can add tempeh for additional protein) 4) they're a local chain 5) I really love a good, hot, sexy sandwich They bake their bread fresh in the store each day, and use delicious ingredients. Having trouble deciding what to order? Ask the person at the counter for suggestions (this is always a must for my favorite eateries- the people who work there eat there too and know what's good). I personally love the 4-cheese with added tempeh and the spicy cheese with added tempeh. Alert: the spicy cheese is pretty hot, even for this gal who loves the spice! read more

Yello Sub was a staple in my diet when I lived in Lawrence going to KU. During those glorious, glorious years, it really helped that the OG location was right next door to the Crossing. On warm spring and summer afternoons it was the perfect slightly-buzzed lunch. Moving on and growing up...I'm so friggin excited I work a five minute walk from Planet Sub downtown. The staff at this location is crazy nice. One of my my most favorite recent discoveries: Greek Chicken Wrap, sub grilled portobellas for the chicky. So yum. Toasted subs are 84390 x's better than regular subs. Other favorites include the Planet Veggie, Pesto-Bello and back in my animal-eating days I swore by the Turkey (no mayo--bleck). I don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate this place. It's become my Friday solo lunch date spot...pick a seat by the window with a copy of the Pitch and a delicious sandwich and I'm good to GO. read more

Planet Sub has just got the art of sandwiches and no-hassle business down. If you want to get way from the norm, Yellow Sub will make that palate happy. The menu can be daunting, but c'mon, we sandwich eaters are picky people. With loads of options and easy ordering, you can't go wrong. I almost found myself upset by how easy the process was. Here I was handed this playing card and was like, "Hey don't I get a number, don't I need a ticket or something, and should I really go sit down?" My sandwich date settled my anxiety my appreciation for this spot just skyrocketed. So how's the food? Scrumptious. A piping hot sub came out and I was snarfing it like no tomorrow. I had a chicken club which seemed like a safe bet my first time out. No complaints here just yellow submarine dreams keep me up, begging for me to return. read more

Ever since we left Lansing, Michigan, we have tried to find a place that makes grinders as good as Mancino's. It has been an impossible feat, until now. (I say grinder, but for the rest of this post, I will use sub, like the restaurant did.) I got the Buffalo Chicken Sub w/a small Greek Salad. My hubby got their special, Jacked Up Chicken Ranch sub. Both of our mouths got a little warm, but so worth it. The salad helped cool down my mouth and allowed me to continue eating my sub. They have Coke products, which is huge for me. I am so not a fan of Pepsi and do not understand why so many places in this area serve it. When a place has Coke, they shoot to the top of my "Yippee" list. I will definitely be going back. There are so many different flavors waiting to be tried. read more

I'd lived here for years but never visited until earlier this year. What was I thinking? This location is set in an old firehouse; it's big and open and perfect for just hanging out. On top of that, there's free WiFi for those of us who have to work over lunch. I can't rave enough about the service and the food -- it's simply darn good, and consistently good. Ok, the food is fantastic - Good sandwiches made with quality ingredients. However, we just placed a delivery order and they charged a $3.00 delivery fee for each item on the order! What kind of an absurd policy is this? Does it cost the driver extra to bring three sandwiches instead of one? Did he make three separate trips? I do not know what kind of a scam they are trying to pull here but i will not be placing delivery orders in the future. Stick to carryout or dine in. read more

I work within walking distance so I go to this place about 2-3 times a week often. I've had most of the sandwiches on the menu. I've had a lot of their salads, and talked with a lot of their employees. This is a good, solid sandwich shop. Oh sure, the pretentious hoi polloi might go for The Mixx, but I really don't care what the limousine liberals think (not you, public transportation liberals... you're okay with me). They have roughly 987 sandwich options, a good selection of salads, and the soups are fresh and hot and changed daily. The staff is great, too, even if the redheaded girl forgets something she's cute so whatever. If you like Subway, Mr. Goodcents, or Blimpie, prepare to have your tastebuds blown, Michael Bay style. Peace out. read more

Had a quick lunch with a co-worker- Better than average hot sub. On par with Potbelly. A six-inch with a drink and a bag of chips cost me $7.50. Much bigger menu that Potbelly, Jimmy John's, etc. Tons of vegetarian options, soups, wraps. If the KC Royals win a game, you can get a $2 Turkey Sub in some promotion they're running. Not the best planet sub I've ever been to :/ Too many young employees who look like they don't care too much. The girl who took my order yawned in my face and gave me three different amounts before giving me the right total. It took me 15 mins to even get my sandwich. This place rocks for a fresh, fast and easy lunch. I like my sandwiches hot and they do it just the way I like it served. This place is hilarious ... it's where I proudly go to make stoners make my sandwich! I enjoy the psychedelic artwork, the Beatles posters, the Jimmy Hendrix poster, the mop headed teenagers behind the counter laughing, always laughing at stuff. And nobody is ever in there, really - it's never all that busy, but everyone I know eats there a lot. So it's kind of an anomaly. Sandwiches can be boring, typical and expected - but I'm usually surprised by Planet Subs odd collection on the menu. I'm a fan of either their chicken parmigiana or meatball sub because both are filled with miles of mozzarella after its toasted, so easy, cheap and good. My sister craves the chipotle chicken wrap once a week (with the chipotle sauce on the side for some reason.) One day, maybe I'll try it, at least to shut her up about it because she's obsessed. I used to order the Planet Sub a lot because I didn't know what else to order, but I discovered I'm not really a roast beef sandwich kind of girl ... BUT I am a bacon girl, I will put bacon on anything! Unfortunately for me, this discovery about the roast beef made it difficult for me to order much else other than the Italian-style subs, because half the menu is some twist on a roast beef sandwich. And if you don't like meat at all, this place has just as many vegetarian options as those for carnivores. Some of them sound better than their meat sandwiches to me - like the Planet Veggie with provolone, cheddar, artichoke hearts, olive tapenade, and sun-dried tomatoes...yum. Anything toasted is fine with me...I could eat anything between warm, toasty bread, even things I wouldn't eat otherwise (and sometimes with the young and hysterical staff behind the counter with all the Beatles posters, I wonder if I'm eating closer to this reality) - but either way, what I don't know doesn't kill me. As long as it stays open and they keep the few subs I like to eat on the menu, I'll keep coming back. read more

Is there anything absolutely mind-blowingly wonderful about this place? Probably not. However, when I'm in the mood for a hot, delicious sub this is where I think of first! Ace of Spades! Planet Sub / Yellow Sub is by far the greatest sandwich place I have ever encountered. You walk up to the counter, order your sandwich, they give you a playing card, and then you go sit down. When you hear your card called, that means your sandwich is ready. Quite simple, really. Simple ordering processes mean everything to me. I get overwhelmed when I walk into a poorly laid out restaurant and the ordering process is completely different than the norm. Although they do things a little different than most, I can handle it, and it doesn't make me go nuts...so that's a good sign. AND THEIR FOOD IS GREAT!
