While it was the only Indian food we ate in England on our vacation, I can judge it compared to the…read morenumerous Indian places we've been to in the US. Service was very friendly, atmosphere was stellar (white tablecloths, crisp white napkins, tasteful art and lighting, gas lamps on the tables, etc) and prices are good. Dishes ranged from £4.50 to £12 each, portions were large enough that my wife and I got three dishes, and despite being quite hungry we ended up with leftovers. The papadam were crispy and served with a selection of good sauces. The achar chicken was sweeter than I've had before but for the better. It helped balance the acidity normally present in the dish and created a sweet/hot/sour balance that was just right - definitely a highlight of the meal. Also had an aubergine curry (not on the menu) that was average. Finished with a tandoori sampler that was really good. Lamb boti was slightly tough but very flavorful. Tandoori chicken breast was outstanding. Sheekha was good. Rice and naan were both good. Not any single aspect of the meal stood out as being amazing, but overall the experience was so good that they deserve four stars without hesitation. Bill for two, with chai and beer and appetizer was only £34 (including tax but not service).

Stay clear, like in most other Indian restaurant of the desert, very uninspiring out the freezer options. Service is more professional in many other restaurants of this type. Price range is very close to £££, a bit on the high side compared to the overall quality (but ok as the main course general is better than many other places). Just making it to 4 stars, 3.75 would be more correct.

I have heard a few people describe this place as the best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

You can never have enough good quality Indian restaurants (so says I), without doubt Shahi Tandoori…read moredeserves to be added to that category. It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).
