We're a one-kid household, so all of this is new to us with new routines, new expectations, new worries. The one thing we were sure about was that early education really matters, and Woods has delivered on that and then some. From school leadership to the teachers in the classroom, we've consistently felt our son is in great hands. A special shout-out to Mrs. Basma, the lead teacher in Classroom Five. She's been incredible. The growth we've seen in our son during his time with her says a lot about her as both a teacher and a person. The changes we see at home are where it really hits. Our son now pours his own milk, drinks from a glass, and loves doing "big kid" tasks. He's more independent and confident, and he's suddenly into things like trying to read, matching games, and even simple chores and watering the plants is a favorite. That feels very much like the Montessori influence coming through. As soon as he turned two, he started potty training, which is something we did not expect to go as smoothly as it has, and the school has been a huge part of that. On top of that, there are spirit weeks, events outside of school that help families and teachers connect, and playdates that have come out of the community there. None of that was on our original checklist when we were looking for daycare, but it's ended up being a big plus. Most importantly, Woods is more than just daycare. It feels like a real learning environment that actually follows Montessori, not just uses the name. If you're considering early childhood options, I'd strongly recommend taking a look at Woods Montessori. At this age, getting a good start matters, and they've given our son exactly that.

I always felt a sense of magic whenever I walked the woods, gazed at the pond, and saw the joy on each child's face on the nature playground! I was always in awe of the unique activities and ideas flowing through the children and teachers! Ms. Carolyn is such an incredible soul who values children and offers each of them an invitation to receive an incredible love of learning. The foundational skills of curiosity, social interaction, creativity, exploration, and problem solving are rock solid after my child's preschool experience. His connection to nature and love for science couldn't be more beautiful. There is no other preschool in our area that comes close to this unique forest school experience. In addition, we took advantage of the summer camp offerings and birthday party packages as well!! We drove 25 min between our home and the school. Let me start by saying my child is not enrolled here…read more The purpose of this review is to put info out there for other new/expecting families. We have been on the waitlist for the infant room for almost a year now. We actually got on the waitlist when I was 2 months pregnant. At he time they said they expected to have openings in a year. That seemed reasonable for a good school. So, we paid the $75 (I think) application fee and got on the waitlist. Throughout the spring and summer I inquired about our status every few months and just kept being told that they didn't know, they didn't know, maybe. Well after my son was born in July and I asked specifically about October the answer became a clear, no. Then I get emails to "waitlist families" saying that we have to let them know if we want to keep our status on the waitlist and if so we will be moved up to the next classes waitlist. While I get that this is an in-demand school I feel that they could have been much more honest and open about the likelihood of getting a spot before taking your money. So, I'm sure the school is lovely, but if you're shopping for daycares for your infant...here's what we have been through. Hope it helps.

A great member of the Community…read more Let me preface by saying that I am not a congregant of Bethel Presbyterian Church although I do have a historical relationship and having lived the community and used their services, this is a community that give back. My ancestors in the 1700's founded Centre Presbyterian Church which was the parent Church for both this Church and Hopewell Presbyterian Church. More than likely I have a number of distant Aunts and Uncles and others interred in this Cemetery. We have lived in the neighbor for almost 25years and this Church is an integral part of the community. I've known and been neighbor with at least two of their minister. They open up their faculties for the community even if you are not Presbyterian. They are the polling place for Mecklenburg County Pct 208 Polling Place, they permit us to hold our Annual HOA Meeting here, they have an outstanding Scout Program and their annual BBQ fundraiser provides me of the best Que in the area. This is one of the local Churches that put words into action and I'm glad you are here.

But more than that it has given my naturally shy, reserved son an amazing confidence and love of learning that has transformed him. He started Woodlawn as a person who could barely look an adult in the eye because of shyness, and ended the year doing a solo poetry reading at the school talent show. He started the year wary of the wealthy show-offs and bullies he had encountered at a Lake Norman preschool, and ended with 11 of the best friends he has ever had -- all 11 of his classmates. The teachers at this school are truly amazing, and beyond the beautiful school grounds, are the real gem of this school. We have never seen teachers who care so much about the success of each one child. They are truly shaping our son into the kind of caring, unselfish, hard-working, confident person we want him to become, and we could not be more grateful. Thank you Woodlawn!!

I get reminders for everything going on at the school by emails and calls from the principal which is great for me since I'm very busy and tend to forget. Assistant principal was very welcoming when we registered at the school and remembers our family when we see her. The principal is very involved at South! We have seen him during school night at chick fil a. Couldn't be happier to be part of this school for my kids!
