When Planet Organic opened I was so excited, but every time I go into the store I leave feeling a bit disappointed. The produce is mouth watering, but lacking in selection. It has excellent vegetarian selections with several tofu choices. The rest of the store is lacklustre. It has all the things you'd expect from an organic store but nothing unique that would set it apart from other similar stores. The pre-made food counter has several selections but none of it looks very appetising. On a positive note, the store has an excellent vitamin section and the staff who works in that area really knows their stuff. They know exactly what to recommend if I want more energy or need more iron. I find myself going into the store to take advantage of the vitamin selection rather than the food. When I do buy food, I find I buy lots of fruits and vegetables because they are simply too beautiful to pass up.

To be honest, most of the big organic supermarkets all seem kind of the same to me. Same 'wooden crates with fruit and vegetables' window displays, same gourmet bread selection and over-priced ready-made meal selection. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I actually do. There's something about these organic supermarkets that puts me at ease - ala Audrey Hepburn in Tiffany's perhaps? And Planet Organic is no exception. With a great range of frozen and fresh food, fruit, vegetable, soaps, breads, yoghurts, tofu and so forth, it has it all. just expect to pay for it.

Branding Planet Organic must not have been an easy job; for when you enter this food boutique store its a whole new world! The layout may follow similar retail store plans and sections. But its shelf produce and products are not an ordinary league. What I like most about any Planet Organic food store is their varied section of greens and vegetables including sprouts, and this store in Islington is no exception. Generously spread out on a large wooden table, it suggests an encouragement for the consumer to be eating more of healthy green diet. Their butter range for example, other than the usual salted and unslated they also have one made from goats milk. So there is every possible consumer who has been thought of either for health or dietary reason. I have yet to try their 'food to go' section but I can promise you their juices are authentic and pure with it being churned in your sight. They also do a light snack, vegetarian menu which does not look appetising in appearence but might be different in taste. The layout of the store is accessible with not much height space used; deliberately to make sure you can read their signs hanging from the ceiling. On my recent shopping visit I noticed that they wont be taking American Express cards from the new year onwards. Ask the manager!

It's like Whole Foods! With the price tag to match!…read more You know how they refer to Whole Foods affectionately as 'Whole Paycheck?' Well, similarly -- As Nature Intended (me to be broke). I suppose. This mini-chain is very similar to my favored "The Grocery" up on Kingsland Road but I just so happen to be down by Spitalfields often enough that I've popped in to this market a few times for the (not-so) essentials. Let's face it, it's a bleak state of affairs down Commercial Street at Tesco Local. I can't even bring myself to go in there. The amount of plastic wrapping and pre-packaged foods just makes me want to barf, no joke. I just can't most of the time, I'd rather go anywhere else. So yes, while As Nature Intended is a bit pricier -- it's also a LOT nicer, has WAY better food things in it and if I want to pay 100 quid for a bag of (basically) snacks, so it shall be done. Sometimes one just wants to feel wholesome, right? Yes. Of particular interest here is their health and beauty section -- well stocked and comprehensive. They carry REN, which I adore and also full range of Wedela which I buy often for the little person in our house. The soups are great, and they have CO-YO (coconut milk yogurt) which is my favorite thing of 2015 thus far. Staff is friendly. You'll be broke but you'll be happy. Good organic food stuffs up in here.

I LOVE this shop it is probably my favourite on earth and as they say outside their shop "Wealth is…read morewell and truly health". It is fully stocked with healthy foods and goodies to help you get through the week and help you to feel like an amazing human being. To add the staff are super friendly and delightful whenever I visit, always displaying a smile on their face and asking if any help is required (it is always the small gestures that count). I can literally spend near to an hour browsing the nut butters, chocolate aisle and fruit pantry, and last but not least - they even provide a sink for you to wash your fruit and veg if you wish to consume it straight away. Also, if you are lucky you may be greeted with a sample of peanut butter or other tasty snack to help you through your shop. If you're a true foodie and health and fitness fiend like me, you'll fall in love with this place!

I love a good health food store like I love my local stationary shop. Or a chemist. There's…read moresomething comforting about browsing through their respective remedies (whether for a lack of zinc in your life, a lack of organisation or a lack of proper body cleansers). They are all like little sanctuaries of self-help delight and I can lose hours on end among the aisles. Holland & Barrett was recently one of these time-warps and before I knew it, I'd spent 30 minutes browsing their, um, aisle. It's not a big location, but I found cleansing detox tea, flax seed, aloe vera supplements, granola bars, daily vitamins, protein powers and a decent selection of gluten free items that I never knew I needed so badly. H&B is a great little shop and it certainly did the cathartic trick for my health-food store craving.

Your run of the mill health-food, vitamins and supplements store…read more Quite wide selection of vitamins and protein shakes. There is also an organic foods section (lots of frozen offerings) in the back. When I was there they had a promotion, buy 1 get a second 1/2 off, though it was a bit confusing to know which items qualified---apparently protein bars do count! Service wasn't that helpful, I spent quite a bit of time looking at protein shakes and you would think someone would eventually ask to help, but sadly no. That said, I'd go back here mainly because of the selection and location. There are actually 2 Holland & Barrett's on upper street, so if you don't see what you are looking for at this location (near Angel) ask them to ring the store near the Highbury and Islington tube.
