Just a grocers, not big, not the best grocers ever but does exactly what you want from a grocers -…read moresupplies you with fruit and veg (and some dairy). The advantages of a local grocers are that you can select as much or as little as you wish and it'll cost a little less than the local Budgens, Tesco Metro or any other local vendor. As I say, it's not massive but has everything and a little more than you'd need and the staff are pleasant. Support your local fruiterer! Ian

I recently 'found' Freshers Village Fruiterers, which is a bit silly as I live by there and pass it…read morealmost daily. But I went in recently and was amazed by what I saw. They have a wonderful selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, some of my favourites include watermelon (a slice for 75p), huge ripe avocados, sprouts, melon grapes. This is the first place where I found salad sprouts - a common staple in the States - and they have a selection including broccoli, lentils and chickpea sprouts. They also have cool things like a selection of freshly squeezed apple juice, and quail eggs. Everything I have bought there has been in perfect condition, with a sell-by date well in advance of anything I find in the supermarkets. Everything is also hugely cheaper than at Sainsburys or Tescos, even half price in many cases. In this day and age, its also refreshing to have the opportunity to pick and choose, and only buy what you need - hard to find as everything is prepackaged now. I don't have a single bad thing to say about the place and I encourage everyone who lives in the area to check it out.

Dear Visitor, We have been living in Camden for years. We…read morecan give you a range of reasons why to shop at 'Dean's Fruits'. Maybe not as varied as Dean's range of fruits but... I. Social Responsibility The imminent power of retail chains and supermarkets is becoming quite apparent. Therefore, we should support small retailers as much as possible. II. Parenthood My 3year old daughter Thalia loves choosing fruits from the stall. She loves the real shopping experience and the earlier on she learns about the origin of food the better. III. Freshness We like to start eating fruits soon after we got them. At the stall we can pick the ripeness of fruits and don't have to wait days until they 'ripen'. IV. Friendliness Dean is a 'real' experience; welcoming and always down to earth. In January, you stick around for a couple of hours and you will experience how hard the job actually is. At that point you will appreciate Dean's warmth even more. He represents a trade that we should cherish and support. V. Cost Effectiveness You can choose the quantities you really need. Also, we eat quite a lot fruits and it makes a real difference in price. I assume that the fruits are about half the price of where we shop normally: M&S. So, go to Inverness Street, experience yourself and take your pick! Thanks Dean. See you tomorrow :) Rhys

Totally agree- why buy fruit at the supermarket when at the market…read more 1) it is better quality (eg ripe) 2) it is cheaper 3) has practically no packaging I have been shopping in Inverness street market and buying my fruit from Dean for the last 10 years. He is reliable - will advise you on the choice every week. If we do not support our local small shops, we will lose them and all we will have left is more T-shirt stalls and supermarkets! Lucia
