I first heard of this great local Italian when a friend said, 'So, I don't really want to cook for dinner. Will we go to Plan B?' Here's me thinking Plan B is a lazy woman's greasy takeaway...
Plan B is the ultimate local Italian. It's hard to understand, but so many neighbourhood restaurants miss the mark, so it's a really welcome discovery. Let me give it to you straight: your local Italian is about going around the corner with your mates to drink lots of plonk and eat plates of fattening pasta. It should have nice music you can chat over, modern, colourful decor and flexible staff who will squeeze another chair in to your table for your best friend's sister's boyfriend when he races in at 10pm and 'just wants a coffee' while you finish your meal. They'll also know that what he really wants is to steal your dessert, and will give you an extra spoon. You should be able to bail out to your local Italian when you can't face cooking on a rainy Tuesday after a long day at work, for a sneaky hot date of a Friday, or for a nice spot to bring your ma for Sunday lunch because you know they'll make a fuss. We're talking reliable, affordable good times, and that's what Plan B's all about.
A typical meal for two of a shared antipasto, two plates of unbelievably good why-can't-I-make-this-at-home pasta and two glasses of nice white will come to about €45, but realistically you'll want the rest of the bottle and their chocolate amaretto mousse. This is experience talking. read more
